iPod dedicated music iPod, PLEASE APPLE!!!!

what would it hurt to create dedicated music pod with 256+gb. discontinue all iPods and make an iPod classic pro. market iPhone se to iPod touch users. consolidate nano, shuffle, & touch into classic pro. people would still buy internet based phone.

If it can't stream Apple Music, Cook and Ferenghi won't allow it to exist. It would take two guys ONE day to make the iPod Nano 32GB ( or larger ). And tons of people would buy it on day one. But it would require an Evil, Satan Worshipping, Puppy Kicking headphone jack, so...

ZERO chance Apple will ever make that. Apple loves the iPod as much as they love Pro Users.

And it is NOT a small market. Tons of people have the 160GB disk based version in their cars, and the batteries are dying and they can't buy a new one. So there is now an after market for replacing those batteries. But Apple knows better!!! Nobody wants ANY flavor of iPod, or 32GB of ram, or the ability to open your old data files... etc...

If my Ipod Classic dies, I will buy a Sony Walkman NWZ-A17 64gb with the physical buttons because I hate touchscreen navigation for music and I want a music centric device but it is a shame as the click wheel is superior to the Sony interface.

Of couse we don't know for certain but if Tim Cook is lying and the parts explanation have nothing to do with Apple killing the Classic, are the motivations that Apple simply wants you online buying Apple Music and perhaps online more in general trying to get you dependent on the cloud?

I guess I'm just going to stick with getting mine refurbished when it finally dies, and the same again for it's replacement, assuming the businesses still exist by then. I've got my library in the cloud with Google Play, as it's free, but it's no substitute for my classic, (especially when I'm in the car) which I've had since 2007 and still runs pretty faultlessly. I've got zero interest in Apple music. I just want a dedicated player to play my music, nothing else. They just want to get their hands further in your wallet, they're not interested in giving customers what they want, despite the fact that I would happily pay a premium price for a new ipod all day long.

It's over. Steaming music has beaten downloaded music. Spotify/AppleMusic/Pandora has beaten iTunes/CDs.

I'm as upset as the rest of you, but I'm moving on. I'll keep my iPods and I have the know-how to change the battery when the time comes. I'm not waiting for Apple to make or update the music iPods any longer. I'm at peace with the idea that the era of downloaded music is over.

Yeah, Apple's letting that whole business dwindle. And people are occasionally still buying the current line of iPods, so I doubt there's any business sense in "swapping" them for a single iPod model. Plus Acer Guy up there has a good point – Apple once made iPods because they were the best music players, but now tons of companies do a fine job at that.

(Plus, man – iTunes syncing sure hasn't gotten any more elegant the last few years, has it?)

I listen to my music in my car for 90% of the time, streaming is useless to me unless I want to rack up a massive data bill, and even that's dependant on getting a signal, which where I live, which is semi rural, is patchy at best. Listening to my ipod with my entire library on it just 'works' and is a better solution for my needs than streaming can ever hope to be. It's about money and nothing else.

Then numbers just don't work out anymore. The number of people that download music is dwindling, they focus more on streaming. That leads to more people moving from download to streaming. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy.

At this point, downloads are going the way of vinyl. All that will remain will be a small dedicated group that will keep their iPods running indefinitely. There's already ways to swap the drives with SD cards and batteries are easily replaced. The only thing is when Apple will drop support via iTunes.

Be that as it may, streaming is of absolutely no use to me when I'm out and about. I guess I'm going to be one of that small dedicated group. I think it's a real shame we're being forced into a corner like this. There's no reason why the two can't co-exist side by side, with streaming seen as the 'rental' arm so to speak and downloads the 'owning' side.

As much as I love Apple products, I gave up on their music players years ago. Don't get me wrong, I have over 800 songs on my iPhone but my primary player is an Astell & Kearn AK300. You can also take a look at FiiO prodcuts but the A&K player have a great interface. I wish it would integrate into iTunes but its an easy drag and drop from iTunes {using Android File Trasfer} and I use a directory structure instead of playlists.

There are may DAPs out there with the advatage of being able to play multiple file formats including HiRez which Apple totally ignores. This is my on the go solution.
At home, my MacMini hold my primary iTunes library and I have 3 AirPort Express's for Airplay around the house.

I really doubt that apple will go with a high end player or a dedicated player with more capacity.

Yeah there's no way they're making another, which is a shame. I've had a look at the products you've mentioned before, and they're quite pricey from what I remember, so a modded classic will still probably be the more cost effective solution for me.

Problem for me is my Itunes library is curated to within an inch of it's life - I'm talking 15500 songs that have all the correct year, album etc filled in and every one is star rated also, and organised into around 100 playlists - serious OCD s***, so said library is the centre of my music world, so to speak, so the ability to talk to itunes really is essential to me.

If Apple drop support for locally stored files I'm screwed basically.

You should probably be on the lookout for salvage iPods classic for spare parts. Might want to keep an old Mac or PC around that can run older versions of iTunes just in case.

Even if data becomes super cheap in the next few years, no streaming service will have the meta data set up to your standards. Keep the faith brother!

Yeah I'm hoping Apple won't drop itunes support for local files, there's got to be a lot of people out there with curated libraries built up over many years that won't feel comfortable just binning in favour of the cloud, I know I wouldn't, I'd always want to keep the files saved and backed up (several times!). If they do drop it, then I'll have to find another media player that will read my metadata. I've actually got my library saved to Google Play music, which reads your metadata to a degree, and will replicate your playlists in it's media player, but the interface isn't as nice and there's a 1000 song limit to each playlist, which is no good for my 70's, 80's, 90's etc playlists. I've re-downloaded these playlists to my tablet and phone too, so I'm not fully out of the world of streaming, but like I said It can't beat a fully loaded classic for driving in the car.

Look, I've been subscribed to Apple Music since it's introduction. Love it but I built up a fairly significant iTunes library of ripped CDs and iTunes purchases since I got my first iPhone in 2011 - in fact I was looking very hard at getting an iPod classic at the time but went for an iPhone. The fact it could do music was great (a widescreen iPod with touch controls, a revolutionary mobile phone and a breakthrough internet communications device ) so I spent a lot of time setting up my library and smart playlists and the latter were I feature I had never heard of before. Great way to rotate music on and off my device!

Now it's true I have almost stopped buying music, with a few exceptions. For example I still occasionally buy - and have received gifts from friends and colleagues travelling for work (in one of the IO here in Geneva) - of unusual ethnic music from around the world. So I want to keep my local file option thanks. I honestly don't think I would buy a pure music player but...would love to see an updated option for the rest of you on this thread from Apple.
