Is there a way to delete the Apple intelligence model from my device?

After updating to iOS27 it downloaded automatically, without asking me. Is there a way to remove it and claim back the 9 GB of space.
Where I live Apple Intelligence is borderline useless and i have kept it turned off since iOS 18.

There is no longer a menu “Apple intelligence & Siri” but only “Siri” in the settings.

- Siri is turned off and I don't use it, nor I plan to use it
- The Ai model is taking 9 GB of wasted space from my iPhone
- Ai features like “Writing tools” have become available, but i don’t really want them

I would be really thankful if someone could assist with this issue!

Sorry, no. No part of iOS is removable. It fools you into thinking you can delete the pre-installed apps, but you are just deleting the icons that link to the app. The OS is always a whole package, Apple Intelligence included.

If it's any consolation, Apple Intelligence (with the Siri AI beta) is 22.36GB on my 17PM.

Right now after you opt-in there's no way to opt-out, I would guess that in one of the next versions when they don't use the opt-in anymore the toggle will reappear like in iOS 26.

I mean in iOS 26 the Apple Intelligence model was actually removable with all the data removed.

Hey, thank you for the clarification!

On iOS 18 and iOS 26 disabling Apple Intelligence actually removed the model from the phone. I am sure of that because i saw it take up 9 GB from my memory, which were free pre-update.

I just hope that there is a method to remove the Ai model, because it’s useless to me and i would prefer to have 9GB for photos, instead

This affected my iPad Air M1 badly. I turned the setting on for my iPhone and it’s trying to shove intelligence into my 64GB iPad as well. It’s not happening. There literally isn’t room lol.

Last year, I was able to clear Intelligence out by downloading all my Apple Music to my iPad (forcing intelligence out) and then removing that downloaded music to free the space back up. I might try that again this week unless someone beats me to it.

Thanks for the clarification. Looks like downgrading from 27 to 26 it is and will remain there. Shame, 27 was actually pretty solid.

To be honest the performance on iOS 27 has been so much better than 26 that i would consider the trade off.
I would submit this as feedback to Apple, though if they have chosen to implement AI across every device, it may not make a difference.

I was just looking into this too! Im trying to turn off the AI features like we were able to do in iOS 26. Hopefully they give us the toggle back in the following betas or once it's officially released. I dont need writing tools or image playground, etc.

Can anyone clarify, this can't be deleted but if you avoid opting in to begin with it won't download? I don't have any need for this to waste space on my iPad.

Hey!

So, in my case, there was never an opt-in or opt-out. The Apple intelligence downloaded on its own after I set up the phone. There is no option to delete/disable it now.

I believe there was no card or screen in the set up process asking me to enable Apple Intelligence.

Update:

Changing my phone to my native language ( doesn’t support A I ) and filling up my storage ( Recorded a short Log video ) cleared the apple intelligence files! Now I am back to 15 GB of iOS data.

Although when i reverted my phone to English and deleted the video it redownloaded the Apple intelligence files back.

Looks like if your language and phone model supports A I it will be forced upon you.

Hmm strange. Hopefully something they adjust in later betas.
