iTunes hasn't been part of a default installation on any Mac I've used for almost two full years. It remained on my Mac when Apple released Music.app back then, but I simply deleted it and it hasn't come back since.

Because Music app is more or less part of the Finder now, it's not likely it will be an "option" to be removed.

Are you 100% certain that you know all of the reasons for it? (you don't identify any) There are probably reasons they've moved in a particular direction that go way over my head. Just sayin.
If I try to delete itunes, I'm told I can't because it's an "essential part of the OS." How can a music player be an essential part of the OS? It can't function without a music player?

My computer is lying to me.

Kill the messenger who brings the bad news, right? You don't like that I tell the truth about Apple.
What truth? OK Apple does some things that users don’t like. But the iTunes example can simply be ignored with no inconvenience. So good luck and goodbye, if that’s your decision.

News flash: buying a Dell (or whatever) and all the software you'll need (some by subscription only) will cost you more than a Mac, if you just used the provided software, of course.

"The truth may be puzzling. It may take some work to grapple with. It may be counterintuitive. It may contradict deeply held prejudices. It may not be consonant with what we desperately want to be true. But our preferences do not determine what’s true."

That is not universally true... it depends upon the software a person needs/wants.

I don't either. That's why I'm moving away from all Apple products.
Hopefully you’re not going to windows all you’ll be disappointed their too.

There are applications in windows which also cannot be deleted as the OS makes use of them.

Remember the times when "we all" used various applications such as XSlimmer and Monolingual to trim our OS X?

Wow. those were the days, huh? Actually they were pretty tiresome.
Just like all this effort in removing iTunes.
The last time I personally was asked to help weed out OS X - I gently told that person to go take a hike. Because enough wasn't enough.
Paraphrasing a lot
Her: "So what else can I delete?"
Me: "Well, you can format your harddisk and stick your saggy breasts out the window and see how that feels. Do that for 10 straight days and call me when you're ready to accept a new challenge"

There's too much energy being wasted on this - and believe me when I talk about energy & also time wasted.
If you don't know me by now; I used to theme macOS quite a bit and it was all fun and games until Apple said "no, no - we do what we must to stop this" And so it was. Mostly. But not really. iTunes? gimme a break. That's silly.

I'm no stranger to sarcasm. The problems with itunes were documented a long time ago, so I thought it was unnecessary to repeat them. You can find them easily all over the internet.

I wanted a music player. That's why I bought Swinsian. It's what itunes used to be before Apple turned it into a cash cow, jack of all trades, master of none. It became a video player, a tool for buying music and movies, recommendations, and so on. The more complex the software, the more likely it will break down. Piling on features I don't need doesn't win points with me. I wanted a music player. That's all. As a music player, Swinsian gets the job done.
Get Info on the Music app reports it uses a WHOPPING 61 megabytes of disk space.
