HiDPI should be OK?
It seems to me that HiDPI mode is the answer for this monitor. Text will be a decent size, although a bit on the big side, and any apps that support HiDPI mode will use the full resolution. I've been wanting a big "retina" monitor for my Mac Pro for quite some time, and this looks like it's got a lot of promise. Aperture works well in HiDPI mode, and that's enough for me for starters.
On a related note, I am thinking of buying this monitor for my 2010 Mac Pro, along with an nVidia k5000 card. It looks like the card should support 4k resolution, at 60Hz, on a Mac Pro, but I'm not entirely sure as I can't find any specific posts from anyone saying that it's actually working. It sure would be nice to know in advance of buying so much hardware!
