I can only compare the 20-inch models. I have a Dell 20-inch at home and an Apple 20-inch at work. They both have amazing pictures. If you hid the cases, I couldn't tell them apart.

Apple Pros:
Firewire hub
Case looks much nicer than Dell case

Dell Pros:
VGA, DVI, S-Video, and Composite inputs.
Better value for the money.

I don't think the firewire hub and case of the Apple display is worth losing the extra connections of the Dell display. I have two computers, my PS2, and my TiVo all connected to my Dell. All that and a cheaper price, I think it's silly to purchase the Apple.

Here's a stupendously dumb question, but is the Dell display HD at all? If I were to plug a Xbox 360 into it using the VGA adapter, could I get high def output? Thanks!

If the Dells and Apples were the same price, I would say Apple. Its absurd that I bought my 2005FPW for $394 shipped and the Apple 20" is still $799....double the cost for the same screen and less connectivity?

Really hope Apple updates their ACDs soon and realizes how much Dell is owning them in the display market.

If you do not mind me asking what other cupons did you use to get your 2005FPW that cheap?

Just found a bunch of stackable coupons on dealmac.com which ended up right at $394.

24" Dell with Powerbook?

I'm interested in the 24" Dell as well....would it be fine with my rev D (non-hi-res) 15" Powerbook? I believe that driving 1920x1440 (or whatever) wouldn't be a problem for the 'book, but please correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks!

Since the 30'' Dell just came out, what is the speculation about a revision of the 2005FPW? 05= the year 2005? I haven't been following LCD monitors until my 17'' Studio Display went out on me the other month!! JUST after the great deal on the 2005fpw! argh!

I'm just afraid that once i buy the 2005FPW there will be a revision of the same monitor the next week.. so how old is this model?

This topic comes up every once and a while. I've worked on both extensively (23'' ACD and Dell 24''), and for the price/performance value, there is no question. None. The Dell simply pwnz the ACD. Use the 23'' ACD at work, and have the Dell 24'' for myself at home, because it is a superior display. I agree w/whoever said Apple better either change their pricing or be sure the next line of displays can even come close to competing with the Dells...

I have both the 20" Dell Widescreen Display (2004FPW maybe?) and 20" Apple Cinema Display. Both have accurate color representation and no dead pixels :D , however the Apple Cinema Display is noticeably brighter. It's so bright that I have to keep the brightness turn down all the way down to even use it because it bothers my eyes (my office is fairly dim).

I like both. However, the backlight in my Apple Cinema Display is much more even compared with the Dell's.

The Dell is much cheaper (I paid around 375 with coupons), similar quality, good color representation, portrait mode, S-Video, composite and VGA ports and mine included a 3-year warranty.

The Apple Cinema Display features a more even and brighter backlight, firewire ports, a thinner bezel, is lighter (as in weight) and matches my Power Mac G5.

My Dell was manufactured in July of 2005. My Cinema Display was manufactured in December of 2005.

Pretty much my opinion verbatim from earlier :)

Someone asked if you could plug in a 360 into the Dell, the answer is yes.

January 9th, 2006 (Updated) -- FCP PLAYBACK PROBLEM REPORTED
Readers have reported to me a problem with skipped frames during playback with Final Cut Pro using the Dell LCD 2405FPW display at 60Hz. Apple warns about problems with 60Hz refresh rate in an article on their web site, but that applies to CRTs. Most readers report NO problems with the Dell 2405FPW. We can't duplicate the problem in our lab. Apple recommends refresh rates of 75Hz or higher. The Quad-Core with the FX 4500 connected to the Dell 2405FPW can be set to 75Hz at 1024x768 or 1280x1024 resolution. The native 1920x1200 only can run at 60Hz on the Dell. It's unknown what scan rate the Cinema displays use. If you open the Displays preference panel, refresh rate is "n/a."

Avoid Apple 23" !!!

i have many bad experience with Apple 23" displays

many of them have pink tone
also they have 3 stuck green pixels on the average (i have tried out 5 so far)
the backlight is also no good (bleeds)

for once, go for Dell instead.
