I had a similar issue with my Mac when I was using my previous monitor (a Korean 2560x1440 27"), but I switched out my mouse with a higher dpi mouse, and the problem resolved itself. Since I now have my P2715Q's in place, I have not noticed any change in how my mouse works. I did have a P2815Q previously, and did return that for a laggy mouse, but that monitor only works at 30hz, compared to 60hz for the P2715Q.

Well, I do, in fact, also have a Korean 2560x1440 27" monitor (an Auria) now that does NOT have even a hint of cursor latency with either my Magic Mouse or Magic Track Pad. It was only when I installed the Asus 4k in it's place that the problem showed up, and it was so severe as to make that monitor unusable on a Mac. The early review of these TN-based 28" 4K monitors in Maximum PC magazine reported the latency problem in 3 out the 4 in that article. It was hard to believe that it would be critical enough to keep me from using it, but it sure was. I know it's that severe in the Asus, so I'm asking if anyone's had a problem with it in the Dell P2715Q or similar IPS-based 27" monitors.

How is the latency on the Dell P2715Q?
It was barely noticeable on the 5 displays we have in my office with the stock mDP-DP cable. I swapped out those cables for DP 1.2 2160p cables from Lindy or StarTech and now there's no perceptible latency, even on the display that's connected to a 2012 Mini Server. A $15 upgrade to the $500 displays was a no-brainer.

Very nice thinking! I wonder if the cabling was part of the severe latency problem I had with the 4K Asus. I found a StarTech mini-DisplayPort to DisplayPort 1.2 cable on Amazon for $6.74. However, the spec sheet for the P2715Q says "cables included." Is the included cable not DP 1.2 compliant or was the problem that the included cable was DP-DP rather than mDP-DP?

Now to find a coupon price on the Dell P2715Q. Thanks very much!

I should mention that I read about others who experienced issues with poor quality cables when using 4K and never even tried using the cables that were included with the monitor. Instead, I purchased a "Coboc CL-DP-HBR2-3-WH 3ft 28AWG Displayport1.2 High Bit-Rate 2 DisplayPort Male to Male Cable with latching,Gold Plated,White - 4K x 2K Ready - Eyefinity Support" and have been using since day 1.

I'd posted earlier in this thread that my discoveries regarding these displays was quite by accident, as I have two of them on my desk along with some other hardware; right after 10.10.3 came out, my GF asked me to clean up my fu..., er, messy desk. She has two MA black belts, so I complied. I had one stock Dell cable connected to my rMBP and a TB cable connected to a TB array, and a stock Dell cable connected to my Mini Server - I disconnected everything, cleaned up, then started reconnecting stuff.

During my rebuilding my workspace, I connected the TB and one stock Dell cables to my rMBP and my Mini to my TB array, then fired up both Macs and both displays - what I saw was two displays showing an extended Desktop of my rMBP, and an array working and my Mini Server working. ????? is what I thought at the time, but that's when I discovered that the Yosemite update enabled multiple display support and multiple 4k 60Hz support on my rMBP. Zoinks!

My cable support point was that I noticed significant lag with the second Dell display, despite showing up as 60Hz. It was the limited DP bandwidth in the DP 1.1-compatible TB cable, so I swapped out that cable for the second stock Dell cable and there was a huge reduction in lag and response time. Then I swapped out one of the Dell cables for a DP 1.2 1600p cable and could tell the difference between the two displays again and, finally swapped out the 1600p cable for a 2160p cable and saw an even nicer image on that display and even better visual response. The only tangible difference is the HBR2/2160p cable has more bandwidth capability AFAIK.

Bigger pipes are always good IMHO!

It's a cheap upgrade - I spent $15 on two mDP>DP cables and another $6 on a mDP>mDP cable - I now have one of the displays connected to both my rMBP and Mini and use the OSM to switch between the two Macs. And, keep in mind that the COBOC cable mentioned above is a DP>DP cable, which isn't the cable I need for my Minis or rMBPs. AFAIK, COBOC makes only white cables in the configuration I need, and I wanted black cables - my preference.

Most of the 4K displays made this year should come with adequate cables although it's possible there were some bad batches or the monitor vendors are now cutting corners. Last year seemed to be a bigger problem with the first wave of 4K 60Hz monitors that were shipping and the advice on the forums was always to go with an Accell cable. I've got a pair of P2415Qs and used the Dell-supplied cables with no problems. Before I got those monitors, I'd tried out a Dell UP2414Q, a Samsung U28D590D, and a LG 31MU97 and I seem to remember that only the LG came with a cable that handled DP 1.2 and the other two needed new cables to avoid screen artifacts.

If you're from California check Bh&Photo it's $558 with no taxes. I just bought mines from TigerDirect for $559 2 days ago no taxes, now it's $640+ lol same exact model. I also don't know if I will be able to run this monitor at the full 4k native resolution at 60hz through a mini dp to dp with my mid 2014 15" rMacbook Pro with the Nvidia 750m GPU.

Dell Home is currently selling the P2715Q with a $150 gift card for $540!!

It's a Dell-only gift card. The agent told me it's ok with Dell if I sell that, but it's an electronic card, not a physical one. Does anyone have any knowledge about selling electronic gift cards on eBay???

They'll probably scam you lol, it's around $597 after taxes for me, so I'll be paying $447 damn just bought mines from tigerdirect for $569 lol.

Sorry. I don't have any experiences selling gift cards. Maybe you can use the gift card to purchase an SSD or something thing and sell that instead.

I paid about $550 about 3 months ago for mine... I always seem to miss out on the good deals.

And Dell raised their price $50 in the last four hours. It's now $600 with a $150 gift card. That's still a pretty good deal if you have a genuine use for the $150 gift card. However, most of us wouldn't find that gift card truly useful, and $600 plus state tax is not a good deal. Looks like I'm back to B&H Photo.

EDIT: it turns out Dell sent me a quote by email which I discovered after posting here. I got the "$160-off" price after all + the $150 gift card + free shipping + a $27 rebate gift card for participating in the Dell Advantage Program. If I can get nearly $177 for the gift cards on eBay, the final price including sales tax will be $403. Some times things work out.

Has anyone done a clean windows install with one of these monitors connected? Do you get display before installing monitor drivers?

Edit: I am trying to find out if what I experienced is normal or if I truly have a LCD with issues...

It's probably been said a lot in this lengthy thread, but the Dell P2715Q is a great monitor. I originally tried an Asus 4K with a TN panel. I took it back because I couldn't see a significant improvement from my 2560 x 1440 monitor, while in some ways it was worse. Regarding the P2715Q that I've been using for over 8 hours now, I must say that I can't see an appreciable difference between it and my 5K Retina display. It's truly "Retina-like;" I've no buyer's remorse whatsoever. Even though my hardware won't support the currently-available external 5K monitor, I now see no reason to buy it even if my iMac could drive it and even if its price were to drop drastically.

Hi guys

I have a mid 2014 13.3 inch macbook pro.
I am thinking on getting the p2415q.Do you have any idea if with El Capitan that would mean better performance?
Meaning that it would be usable, 51hz or 60hz with better performance coming from the benefits of gpu improvements with the new OS? Has anyone tried it with the beta yet?

Got my p2415q a00 replaced with a rev a01... Will try again doing a clean windows install this weekend.

I just finished upgrading OS X to 10.10.4 had to put the GT120 back in... I get a display and can see the grey boot screen, but once the OS starts to load I get a black screen (same thing in Windows.).. I have to set the display to secondary MST to see the grey screen... Any ideas why this card can't render a display in either OS?

I can't seem to get a signal out of this card while booted in at a desktop but since I see the grey boot screen I know it is working before the drivers kick in...

I know the GT120 was able to draw a desktop on both the DVI (via HDMI adapter) and the mDP (via mDP to DP adapter) before I put in the 980Ti and introduced the Nvidia Web Driver... I have not tried the mDP to mDP on the monitor as I don't have a cable, but I wouldn't expect it to be any different that the DP...

What's really odd now, is if I connect the monitor via DP to the 980Ti (with DP as the active input) and then plug in the GT120 to the HDMI cable, the Mac Pro crashes and reboots. If I let it reboot without changing inputs the DP connection is seen as the secondary display (no login). If I change inputs on the LCD to the HDMI, I just have a black screen then the LCD will not bring up the inputs menu till I remove the HDMI...

It is some issue about the combination of cards, drivers, and the P2415Q... If I connect a standard 1080p display to the GT120 DVI, it works fine...

Any improvements of any of the startup screen not showing issues after the 10.10.4 update? The update release notes mentions improving compatibility with certain monitors...

I've had my P2715Q Rev. A01 for about a week now and I am very happy with it, none of the issues mentioned, but did tone the colours down a bit (the overall tint was a bit too warm in my opinion).

I do however, have a different issue slightly related to the screen:

I wanted to check out 4K content on Netflix using Safari and no Silverlight installed (ugh, Silverlight...) just by using HTML5. Previously on my Thunderbolt Display this was no problem. However, now it does not play back since the monitor is not HDCP compliant apparently. I am using DP from my GTX 660 to mDP on the monitor, anyone else with this problem? Or does someone know of a workaround, preferably without plugins and definitely without Silverlight?

For everyone thinking that native 2560x1440 is sharper than 2560x1440 HiDPI on a 4K display, you can see for yourself the difference.

The attached are taken with my iPhone which is plenty enough to reveal the obvious differences. One is the Apple Thunderbolt Display at 2560x1440 (native), the other is 2560x1440 HiDPI on my Dell 4K.

With Apple's scaling... More pixels is more better :)

Thank you for your helpful and detailed post :).

Just received my Dell P2715Q, using my 2014 mid 15" inch MacBook Pro with 750m Nvidia GPU running at 60hz through the thunderbolt port connection. It's an excellent monitor, everything is so crisp, you'll need to calibrate the color when you get it though the factory default comes with a creamy warm color, also mines came with minor backlight bleed but overall a great option for those looking for a 4k monitor at a great price.

Jesus christ, downloaded OS X El Capitan first public beta, now I can't get the full 4k resolution AVOID upgrading.
EDIT: Ignore, it's working now.
