El Capitan fonts suck, yet the window resizing issue I complained about is probably solved, when the windows are re-instated, they are now automatically resized (It only happened once, so I'm not 100% sure whether it will always be like this)

From what I can tell, the windows resize issue seems solved. That alone makes it a worthwhile upgrade for me.

El capitan has made my late 2014 mini stop working in 52hz...so 30z and no way to make it work with switchresx. So nasty topic, really, breaks my balls!
If anyone knows how to make it happen again...please let me know!

disable SIP through Recovery mode -> terminal-> csrutil disable-> reboot ->create new user -> under new user create custom resolution in SwitchresX ->reboot -> delete new user ->enjoy 4k in 52hz

Mmm, interesting...I did that (SIP) without creating a new user after that. Will try this evening. The problem is that, right now, my mini doesn't detect the dp...like if nothing was plugged in via this port (really weird the behaviour of the mini with this screen via dp). I will try to solve that later and ask for more help if needed.
Thanks a lot for your reply!
Edit: Yesterday I spent one hour trying and trying...and finally I think I understood the reason why the mini was not detecting the dp...it was my mistake: the parameters passed to switchresx were NOT the ones that I was using in yosemite, so I think the system was switching off the display due to invalid screen parameters...
I went back to Yosemite, and will reinstall El Capitan again and try your solution with the right setup in switchresx.

Tried it and worked just for some minutes! The res went active after the first reboot and worked. After restarting to login with my actual user in order to delete the test user...the display went black again...
could you or someone tell me the switchrrsx params for mini and this display to be sure that I am not doing sthg wrong? Otherwise...i will stay in yosemite...so sad and disappointing. Thanks again for your help!

24" is listed now too:

P2415Q $599
This thread is a bit outdated but I am facing a similar problem now.
Looking to replace by iMac (fried logic board) with a MacMini 2015 and a decent Monitor. The Dell P2415Q looks promising. Does anyone know if they are compatible, or where I can find out the compatibility?

I could see why you think this thread is outdated... You must be from the future with a 2015 Mac Mini. :) Apples 4K compatibility only covers shipping products...

Rather thank a mini and a monitor, I would get a Retina 21" iMac with quad core i7 CPU, 16GB of memory and a 500GB SSD. Big storage would be on external drives connected via USB 3 or TB 1/2.

I don't know what to recommend. On one hand, my mac mini is awesome, 256ssd and 16gb ram. It works really well, noiseless...Is a very good machine, a bit expensive for the specs, but we know apple stuff's prices.
On the other hand, to make it work with the P2415Q in 4k@50+hz is a bit tricky, and the result is not perfect. You need two wires there (dp+hdmi weird combination) and no chance to move to El Capitan to get 4k@52hz (still waiting for someone to solve that and give me solution). So ok, I am almost completely happy (completely happy if I wanted 1440p or 4k@30hz), but the result should be better for the 1800€ that I paid for these two pieces of hardware. Right now I would go for the P2415Q and a macbook pro 13, which will let you use the screen without any problem in 4k@60hz, (ok it's 600€ more, but you have a laptop as well), and according we are not talking about cheap gadgets, I think you will not care so much about the difference of price.
For me the imac 21, is nice, but has a big problem, if something crashes you need to change everything! And really, I haven't tried the new imac, but I doubt the screen can beat this dell screen. Is really awesome and 24 vs 21'5 inches...
Hope I helped you.

but I doubt the screen can beat this dell screen.

In size that is obviously correct. But they have wider color gamut that sRGB. But color accuracy is important then you want UP-2414Q for Adobe RGB color gamut.

After hours searching, I have it working, I managed to modify the plist of the DELL with the IODisplayEDID of the Samsung U28D590, another 4K monitor. It allowed my to successfully use 1080p HiDPI, but the screen is of course recognized by OSX as the Samsung model.

I want to propose here to work for a DELL P2415Q plist file, so we can configure directly our monitor with a list of all posible resolution without the need of using the switchresx.
Hello. Any new about that? Still waiting to jump to El Capìtan since it is rejecting my 1080HiDpi setup via switchresx, it gets black once restarted in my Mac Mini and P2415Q (only works on the first time I try the resolution, and only sometimes...got bored with this topic and went back to yosemite).
Thanks in advance!

I picked up a Dell MKS14 monitor stand with integrated USB hub to use with my P2715Q and love it. It really helped reduce cable clutter on my desk.

It also has DisplayLink hardware in it which essentially is a USB video card. I have not used or tested this feature since my video card handles 4K@60Hz fine.

Does the P2715Q still have the wake issues with El Capitan? Was considering buying one but don't want want to deal with all the issues I've been reading about.

It still happens sometimes, but, at least for me, it's very rare. I experience it maybe 2-3 times a month.

I don't think OS updates will correct this. I think it's more of an issue with the monitor's firmware.

So if I wanted to run two P2415Q side-by-side, which graphics card should I pick up for my 2009 4,1 Mac Pro? I'm looking to upgrade and I'm thinking a GTX 970 should be more than enough right? No gaming, just software development.

Shoot, I wouldn't even mind getting a 750 if it would do the job. Right now I'm using two GT 120s and I'm dying. Plus there is an El Capitan bug that causes problems with two GT 120s.

I don't know how much GPU horsepower is required to drive two 4K displays. But if I had to guess, I would assume a GTX 970 is plenty. Under normal desktop usage, I have not seen VRAM usage hit even 50% of the 4GB of my GTX 980. However, I recommend checking in the Mac Pro sub-forum with others to see if there are any issues with driving two monitors when using the Nvidia web drivers.

I've got a P2415Q on the way and I'm planning to buy a 15" rMBP with the discrete M370X graphics.

Can anyone with a similar setup (either the P2415Q or the P2715Q) please let me know whether there is any UI / scrolling lag on either display, particularly in Safari or MS Office products?

Ideally I'd like to run the P2415Q at 2560x1440 HiDPI, so the rMBP will be pushing a lot of pixels, and I've had lag issues with MacBooks in the past. I've noticed small amounts of UI lag on rMBPs in Apple Stores (without discrete graphics) so I'm a bit worried the 4K screen will be a bit much especially if it's running at a scaled resolution as well.

Thanks.

I'm not sure what changed, but I'm now having major sleep wake issues with my 2 P2715Q's and nMP.

If I leave my machine and come back, neither display will wake up. I have to SSH into the machine from my laptop and reboot it.

These have been stable up until now, the only issues I've had with the monitors is no boot screen on reboot, and on very rare occasions one monitor would not turn back on after sleep - but that was an easy fix, turn that monitor off and back on, and it would all correct itself.

I was running El Capitan for a while without any new issues, but El Capitan REALLY screwed up my Audio stuff. My Apogee Duet sound card would just randomly disconnect, over and over, it was so annoying I decided to install the Developer Preview (which is now DP 4), which fixed the sound issue. But now I have display issues.

So it might be the developer preview... it seems odd they'd be touching this kind of thing, but who knows...

Last night I tried just physically switching off the monitors before bed. This morning, I turned them both back on, and at least one of them came back, but I still had to reboot the system to get everything back.

It's SUPER annoying. Not very happy my $6000 computer is acting this way.

I use a P2715Q and a U2713HM on my 5,1 Mac Pro GTX-680 which is on 24/7, although I do let it sleep when idle. The P2715Q is on the Display Port and the U2713HM is on the DVI port in case that matters.

The main 4K monitor occasionally (maybe once a month) doesn't want to wake up. Simply turning it off and on doesn't work, but reaching around to the back and unplugging the power cord and replacing it brings it right back where it was. For comparison, the U2713HM is flawless in this regard ... it always comes on from sleep.

Although I hope this eventually gets resolved, it happens so seldom that it isn't a showstopper from using this great monitor for me.

Hope you get your issues solved ...
