Still no update on that annoying issue. Really crappy communication Dension-side...

What communication?
It's been this crappy for years. No news updates, no planned releases, nothing ;) They even delete bug reports from their ticketing system without notification.

Dension = avoid

I just started a ticket with Dension. Should have checked here first obviously!

Annoyingly I just bought a new cable from a 3rd party for my Ice>Link plus and installed it today. The website doesn't mention that it doesn't work with the 3G iPhone. You'd think since they started testing it a few weeks ago that it might be worth telling customers this. I so regret going down the Dension path, but such is the life of an early adopter. Now, I'm sure I could get a non-sony, non-dension solution for my car that isn't a complete pain most of the time.

So is there ANYTHING we can do to get this to work? My dock worked perfectly with my iPod touch but my new 3G just won't charge making the £80 spent on the dock a bit of a waste of money!

Solution Found!

Order the "iPhone 3g/iPod charge converter" from the nice folks over @ http://home.swipnet.se/ridax/connector.htm and you will be all set.

I installed mine yesterday and it worked like a champ. I was able to use my 3G iphone with my Dension icelink+ and it charged it! I still got the warning message and offer to put my phone into flight mode, but the phone charged and works.

From what I understand, this adapter converts the firewire compatible power to usb compatible power and passes the rest of the signals without alteration. I have the DICE video cradle and stuck the adapter behind that.

I have a 2003 BMW 330xi with business radio, Icelink+ with latest BMW firmware and the DICE ipod video cradle.

I just put my 3G iPhone into my Dension IceLink and I got a message that it cannot charge my 3G iPhone. It worked fine with my previous iPhone and this makes me sad. While listening to MacBreak Weekly today I heard Leo mention that this was a known issue that some 3rd party accessories would not charge the iPhone and they would be selling an adapter. Has anyone heard the same thing?

Same problem

GOOD NEWS! :D

I talked to a DICE Tech Support Representative on the phone today and they recognize the problem and are planning to release an updated cable to fix the problem! He said it should come out in 1-2 months.

It is kind of annoying I am going to have to re-install the new cable but at least our problem is fixed! Also means we should have compatibility with future iPods that are USB only.

Not a fix for me as I have a spec doc

Just got a reply from Dension this morning which I thought I would post for interests sake. Looks like we have a bit of a wait but at least they are doing something.

Dear Customer,

we are currently testing the new iPhone 3G in FM.
Apple has changed the charge specifications in iPhone 3G. Please get back to me in the middle of October.
I'll inform you then about the results.

Kind regards,

Dension Support Team

Adapter still works

Just wanted to post an update that the converter "iPhone 3g/iPod charge converter" that I ordered from http://home.swipnet.se/ridax/connector.htm is still working like a champ with my Dension IceLink+ and my 3G iPhone.

Not to speak ill of the Dension folks, but I can't imagine that coming up with an adapter for a legacy product is of paramount importance to them.

The adapter described above works perfectly and is available now.

Good Luck!

The problem with this is that it is big, probably too big to hold the iPhone securely in the dock, quite ugly and expensive. The whole point of the dock installation in the car is that it tidies up all the cables and makes the system feel as close to integrated as possible. I'll be waiting to see if an official solution comes out either from Dension or Apple before I resort to one of those I think. Thanks for the heads-up though

Here are 2 pictures of the adapter. I took these pictures with my iPhone, so that is why there is a regular ipod sitting in the dock.

This is the optional DICE cradle mount that I am using with my Dension icelink+. I ended up buying another cable and the cradle. On the plus side, this arrangement lets me plug in the adapter behind the cradle and is out of site.
