Like the many

Like the many I have all too (G5, MPB, iPhone, Ipods, and a 27" iMac thats for the other in the house). I liked the iPad right away, mainly cause I am a tech geek and like Apple. I was not 100% sure I needed an iPad, still am not, but I think it will help my lifestyle, video editing sales, etc.

This is what I did, I read and posted like you to see if it worked with what the things I need it to do. The main thing I did was go to my local Apple store and spend some time with one, that's when it hit me, I wanted one for sure.
I would go and play around with one, then make your choice. The hardest choice for me was which model, and to be honest I am still not sure, to me it's a gamble, if it helps with my video editing mainly showing people my work via iPad instead of an iPhone when out and about then its a great tool for me. So just look at how it can help you.
I understand what your going through, they can get expensive, so do the pros and cons.

Yep, have all of them except waiting for the 3G. I spend a lot of free time in the evenings and on weekends on the internet, responding to emails (I get 100 or more per day at home) and keeping up with my children, grandchildren and friends on facebook with a 17" MBP on my lap on top of a lap desk. Current temp is 131 degrees and I can still feel the heat through the lap desk. The iPad will be great, light weight and a heck of a lot cooler. Saturday mornings I'll be at Starbucks which is only 10 minutes away. When I travel the iPad will work out fine and will not need my MBP.

If you're so unsure how useful the device would be to you that you're asking strangers on the internet, it's probably not going to be that useful to you. :)

useless post ... the OP is looking for user opinions/experience and are many others here.

I have a Mac Pro, 13" MBP, MacBook Air and now and iPad ... I prefer the Air over the iPad by FAR ... granted it's more expensive but when I'm out and mobile using the Air I have to make no computing sacrifices, with the iPad you'll make many ... it's doesn't do many tasks input/creative tasks better than a laptop ...

The iPad will be best received by those who own big/heavy laptops ... they'll appreciate the size and weight, anyone with an ultra portable and a 3G internet stick is going to most likely going to find the iPad a 'not enough' device.

Hope that helps.

I have 2 desktops, Macbook and an iPhone 3GS. I just reserved my iPad. I would sell the macbook as I never use it and def wont after I get the iPad. However I need one machine with straight out OSX as I do most of my iPhone jailbreaking or Apple TV hacking on the macbook as its just easier. I suppose ill probably jailbreak the ipad on the macbook as well.

I have a 27" iMac, iPhone, and an iPad. For me it's the perfect solution. My wife has a mbp so If I really need a full computer for traveling, then i do.
