I can only empathise :(
I was in a similar situation a few months ago, only I was using aPC and had deleted what I thought were duplicate images (of a trip to Paris ironically enough!)

I actually then went on to do a bad thing, I downloaded "Recover My Files" and illegaly obtained a serial number (yes, I had no shame, just desperation)
it worked and ever since I back up everything religiously.

Just wanted to send you some hope vibes, I REALLY hope you get them back, if you fail to recover them from the drive, try the same thing on the camera card, they may be recoverable from there

Try searching using Terminal. Since OS X hides dot folders (e.g. .Trash) from the user's eyes, it may find files that Finder or Spotlight can't.

Dragging files and directories to Trash is just the same as a move to the .Trash folder and the command line will allow you navigate through it.

Open Terminal as an admin,
Code:
sudo cd {account}/.Trash
for each account (just in case it's in a different account than you expect), replacing {account} by the actual account directory name. Type
Code:
sudo find . -name *.jpg
(or whatever the file extension of the photos should be).

I didn't empty the trash. But when I went in there to see if I can drag it out. There were only other trash from before. None of the pictures from iphoto was present.

Also, the user that I deleted didn't even delete everything? The user is still there with icons to desktop, library, music, and documents. It seemed to have only deleted my iphoto folder.

Is there a deleted users folder?

If you haven't used your camera's flash card again, there are a number of apps that supposedly will recover deleted files from them. Maybe another option to look at.

Still haven't emptied the trash right???
Don't.

Have you enabled the hidden files on your system and looked through that? If you haven't then let me offer one more option. Although I really don't know if it will work.

1) Go to www.versiontracker.com and download TinkerTool.
2) Open TinkerTool and under Finder select "Show Hidden and system files"
3) Hit the Relaunch Finder button in the bottom right of TinkerTool
4) Go to your home folder and you should find a folder called .Trash and look in it.

This is the actual trash file from the system, get info on that folder and see what the file size of that folder is. If the file size is rather large (over 100 or 200mb) then that means there is something still in there. The only thing is, if you looked in the .Trash file you will either see possible new files or not. Can't really say what will happen, but if you don't see anything in the .Trash file that is a folder and the size of the .Trash folder is really big, perhaps the image data is still there, but in some strange file.

This is going out on a bit of a limb, but I am in England (from Cali) right now and if I lost my pics I'd be devasted, so I really want to help.

I tried it, and found the .Trash folder. Looked in it, didn't find my pictures. I looked at the info, and the size was rather small as well.

I loved England, take lots of pictures. And DON'T delete them accidently like I did.

I'm SO frustrated. Pictures are the best way to share memories.

My memory card is rather small. (I was low on the funds) and so each time I put my pictures in iphoto I automatically delete them. And reuse the card over and over to the max of its capabilities.
