Isnt Verizon CDMA? Though i have seen some mention popping in a SIM card but i assume that is for world phones or something that i obviously dont know about. I havent paid any attention to Verizon. Not interested in them at all.

Verizon is CDMA, as is Sprint. However, if OEM's are able to put the right radio's into the phone and they keep the phone unlocked, it makes no difference what network the phone goes on. Example would be the Nokia Icon. You can buy it on Verizon, but use it on ATT. You are just limited to HSPA+ speeds, as there is no radio for GSM LTE.

Expanding and slight correction on this:

Verizon uses a system called eHRPD to Authenticate on the network with a LTE device. eHRPD will allow the device to authenticate on both the LTE and CDMA network via a SIM instead of an ESN. Hence why you can use SIM cards to swap between LTE phones on Verizon now. If you go to a 3G phone, you need to go back to entering the ESN numbers. There is no such thing as GSM LTE but rather a phone does not have the proper band for AT&T LTE would be the more likely scenario.

Thanks for the technical correction/wording. It's what I meant, but you knew the correct terminology. Cheers.

That sounds pretty high to me.

For 3 unlimited plans, 2 5GB data plans, a 3GB iPad plan and a 250MB iPad plan? All with unlimited talk and text?

Wasn't much cheaper on T-Mobile especially when I factored in the fact that we have 7 subsidies we can use to upgrade.

Why would you need unlimited talk on a iPad?

I have 5 lines, 3 w/ unlimited plans but only two of those with unlimited data, one is lower and we pay $145 a month. Even if i get unlimited on the other two it would be $165. And if i had two tablets with unlimited it would be around $200-$220...not sure which since i have ni interest in getting data plans on those. Still much cheaper than $400.
One line is my house phone which is only $5 a month on their VOIP router which they dont even sell anymore so i cant get data on that one.
Ill also add that it will go up around $9 next month because i dont work at the same place and wont be getting that discount any longer so OK, lets call it $230 , hell ill even go up to $250( IF i had data plans on our tablets, which i dont).............. still way cheaper than $400.

Deutsche Telekom agrees to sell T-Mobile USA to SoftBank

Why would you need unlimited talk on a iPad?

Obviously don't have talk or text on the iPads. What carrier do you have? I'm including all taxes and such....

I tried to pack in everything my family plan has now into a T-Mo plan. Monthly price was cheaper by about $80/month - but we would have to pay full price for the 5 phones.....

We also have 2 extra subsidies in the iPad lines we can use to upgrade. All-in-all that comes out to $450 x 7 in savings every two years. I factored that into my equation and it simply wasn't a big difference in cost.

Especially since TMo is poor in NC where my brother lives and doesn't really offer any better service here in the DFW area.

I envisioned a switch to TMo at some point, but it didn't make sense late last year when I looked into it.

Well this depresses me. T-Mobile seemed to be really getting things together and shaking up the industry, but now they'll likely be bought out by a completely incompetent company that will likely completely squander all of their accomplishments.

I wouldnt say that. John Legere who runs TMobile now is said to be the guy to run things when the merger is complete. Which would be a smart move on their part.

There are times when TMo offers free data for life on their tablets. I dont know what you mean when you say "full price" on the iPhones. Doesnt AT&T charge MORE just to have an iPhone?

I havent went in to TMo and tried to see new plans lately. One of the phones on our plan has JUMP which is an extra $10 so you can upgrade sooner by only having to pay off half of the phone and it also includes it being insured against damage or theft. That was included in my monthly rate i showed.
Ill eventually have another one with JUMP but so far, ive been buying phones outright like my Nexus 5 and my Wifes Windows phone that i got on eBay and im looking to get another on Ebay or Swappa sometime soon.

Softbank is managed leaps and bounds better than T-Mobile.

to be honest, how long can T-Mobile play the "un-carrier" game for? and for what gain? a small amount of growth in a nearly saturated market but with low(er) tiered pricing. AT&T, Verizon, and now even Sprint (by way of Softbank) can drop prices to pressure T-Mobile if push came to shove.

i believe Legere's initial plan was correct, they need to find a acquisition suitor to buy them out. they have way too much capital outlay ahead of them, not enough cash, and limited means of financing

There isnt anything wrong with teh uncarrier prices.

They would be making money if they didnt offer to buy out customers fines for leaving early from other carriers.

Prices already have been dropping and T-Mo is still growing at a significantly faster pace. AT&T plans are almost on par with the Un-Carrier ones, last I saw, solely due to the competition.

I was about to hop on the T-Mobile bandwagon - either buy an unlocked Moto G LTE or Nokia Lumia 635 and hop on the $40/month plan. Same I'm paying now with Virgin Mobile, although with capped data, but at a much faster speed (I mostly use WiFi anyway). Now I might have to wait and see.
