hey guys, alright i'm new to all of this.. what EXACTLY is the dev team releasing any day now? a new version of pwnage for the 2.0 firmware?

and after that question is answered, does that only work with macs? or is there a windows version (i believe i've read somewhere else that it's a mac only program but i'm not 100% sure)

Exactly. It will jb and unlock first generation iPhones and it will also jb iPhone 3G. Wether it will also unlock the current iPhones is still not clear. I believe this will happen, but it will not be part of Pwnage 2.0.

AFAIK the dev team does not release software for Windows. If that's a problem for you the best solution would be to ask a friend who owns a mac :)

alright. thanks. that is EXACTLY what im going to do.. :D

but on the blog it's getting awfully quite. last post was 22 hours ago.
so might be the soon.

Firmware 2.0 is way too buggy right now and isn't worth the upgrade considering the battery leak and the constant crashing. I would suggest that you guys hold off the upgrade and just enjoy 1.1.4 till 2.0 gets fixed.

the more I think about it... The more I think I will I this route. Although a jailbroken 2.0 would be hard to beat in terms of having both official and unofficial apps to play with.

could some one help me out here .....

pwnage tool was able to unlock and jailbreak e first generation iphone correct?

but the pwnage tool 2.0 will only jailbreak the iphone 3g and not unlock it, correct?

if so how would people be able to unlock the iphone 3g? through a third party program (like bootneuter??) or through a turbo sim or something similar?

i have been reading some mix posts, and just wanted to make sure before I bought mine.

bootneuter is included in the current pwnage tool and from what i heard the new one should be able to jailbreak AND unlock 3rd generation

New blog post from the iPhone Dev team:
http://blog.iphone-dev.org/post/42583223/safe-code
So we’ve been working hard on getting the release ready and during this process we’ve been fixing some final bugs, the actual base of PwnageTool application is working fine and working with all devices that we support. We’ve been restoring our devices to various firmware revisions so that we can try to reproduce the conditions that most users will have. We are able to fully install any applications on any part of the current devices running 2.0 (and b103) and these versions are the iPhone 114, iPhone 2.0, iPhone 3G.

Apple released an update (b103) just before we were about to release and that support had to be added to the current version, it is pointless to release something that doesn’t work on devices out of the box (we’ve been told new 3Gs will have this firmware), we don’t want drama, and we want to do as little support as possible, so we want to make it right the first time.

It was lucky that we delayed slightly as we discovered a bug that causes unexpected behavior when using AppStore and Cydia on the same device. We are working on fixing that bug now, we don’t anticipate it is a big one, it has some really odd side effects, causing WiFi dropouts and the loss of stored passwords for WiFi networks. Of course this is only a minor software issue, nothing like the horrible static MAC address that another “elite byte adjuster” forced upon their users.

So, currently (when released) PwnageTool 2.0 will support:-

iPhone (1st Gen) with 2.0 - Activated, Unlocked & Jailbroken, (with support for third party applications).

iPod Touch with 2.0 - Activated & Jailbroken, (with support for third party applications).

iPhone (3G) with 2.0 - Activated, Jailbroken (with support for third party applications).

We’ve made some progress on the baseband unlock of the 3G device, but at this point PwnageTool will not support 3G unlocking or BootNeuter on the 3G device. It is, of course supported on the first generation device with 2.0. We’ll push out an update with that support when it is completed.

As soon as we fix this up and test a bit more we’ll be ready for release, we’ll get back to you with a release schedule soon.

Please loosen that seatbelt slightly while our cabin crew serve you complimentary drinks.

Is it possible to to unlock the original iphone using the turbo sim (the first unlock method) instead of waiting on this software to be released? I really don't care about any of the jailbreaking applications. I just want to be able to use the 2.0 software unlock.

Awesome I appreciate the update, atleast il be able to sell my 1st gen unlocked with 2.0 and whack mobile scrobbler and others on my 3G. This is what im waiting for.

I also appreciate the update. Though many seem to hate that the app isn't out yet.. when the bugs haven't been worked out yet.

Hey - I've got a quick question.
I'm a PC user who just bought an iPhone 3G.

I want to run one third-party application, Intelliscreen, which would give me the single-look calendar/message functions that i used to have with my Blackjack II.

i know this Pwnage tool won't work on a PC; so I'm wondering how I might get my iPhone jailbroken and this application installed.

I should also say that I'm not the savviest hacker or computer fiddler, though i can figure out how to make basic stuff work with good instructions.

Just wondering.. seriously, this is the only functionality I want; other than that I'm loving the phone.

Having a friend with a mac would probably be your best bet.

get a friend who has a mac.
then wait for the jailbreak for 3g to come out.
then jailbreak

note, there might be a chance that the 2.0 firmware breaks the app u have, so there is a chacne that jailbreaking wold be pointless.
we dunno yet.

"We’ll push out an update with 3G support if and when it is completed."

dont quite like this line, it looks like a unlocked 3g will take quite a bit of time ....

Thanks.. I figured I would wait awhile anyway to see if the app I want still works with the new firmware..

of course, all of this could be solved if Apple had just approved an app that would create a "Today" screen or something similar.

it's a small thing, i know, but it would really make a big difference for those of us who use the iPhone primarily for its business (email, calendar, contacts) purposes!

I have a 2G iphone on 1.1.4 and a Windows computer. What would the steps be to unlock it using someone else's mac? Here's my guess.

1) Restore and upgrade to 2.0 via itunes on my computer.

2) Dowload pwnage to a friend's mac, pwn the iphone.

3) That's it right?

I have restored (factory setting) 2g iphone running 1.4.4. I unlocked it for travel overseas and locked it back when I returned.

I don't intend to unlock my iphone again in the future. Is it safe for me to upgrade to 2.0?

Thank you.

Yes. Just back up your information and you should be good to go if you have a legit iPhone contract.

That seems like the best possibility, although you won't know until it comes out! I wonder if there is a Win/Mac incompatibility though..

If it is like the older version, you actually download 2.0 to the mac and pawnage alters the 2.0 ipsw (an ipsw is an Apple/Mac compressed disk image). The altered ipsw is what you upgrade with. Then pawnage alters the firmware if needed.

This might be a problem for you as your iPhone will not be "mated" to your friends mac.

At least, that is how I remember it.

couldn´t he maybe also just build the custom firmware on the mac then rename it to either zip or rar and the just put it on his phone thru itunes on his pc ... i´m not sure but wasn´t it that the leaked 2.0 firmware a couple of days came out as a zip and all the websites just told you to rename it ?
