Pwnage Tool 2.0.3 has been released. Jailbreaks 2.0.2 Firmware.
I'm just learning about jaibreaking being that the 3g is my first iphone. Question, so what is the significants to these updates for Pwnage? For example would I want to download this update if I had already jailbroken my iphone from 2.0?

I've been tempted to jb my iphone for some time because I'd like to be able to have custom themes but I just dont feel like I understand it enough yet to attempt it.

Each official Apple update tends to 'break' jailbreaks meaning you have to re-jailbreak every update Apple churns out which is why the dev team updates their tool to be usable with the newer firmwares

Ha, and of course it's on the day that I use Quickpwn on a machine at work. Guess I'll build an IPSW and keep it for when it's needed.

oh I see, thanks. So if I had my iphone jb on the previous 2.0.2 I would have waited for the update from pwnage before putting the new 2.0.3 followed by pwnage 2.0.3? hope that makes sense.

If you were on 2.0.1 and wanted a jailbroken 2.0.2 you would have had to wait for this newly released tool (2.0.3) to do so as the 2.0.2 tool only supports 2.0 & 2.0.1 firmwares

I just used pwnage 2.0.3 on a jailbroken 2.0.1 iPhone. Everything seemed to go fine, but my newly restored iPhone still says it's running 2.0.1. Anyone have any ideas what's up? I was under the impression that if I ran pwnage it would update the official firmware in addition to jailbreaking.

I'm sorry, but I don't think you understand the way Pwnage works... you're describing something more like QuickPwn...well, not really that either.

Pwnage takes a firmware file, modifies it to contain the bootneuter trojan horse, and whatever else you want in it. Then you restore that firmware onto your iPhone. But whatever version that firmware was before you pwn'd it, it will still be that same version after you pwn it. So to get pwnage to update you to 2.0.2, you have to pwn a 2.0.2 firmware file -- typically by downloading one from Apple (using iTunes or however else) and then pwning it. If you don't do the step of having iTunes get you the 2.0.2 file, Pwnage won't be able to pwn 2.0.2 because it won't have an IPSW file of 2.0.2 with which to work.

Does that make sense?

it wouldn't have made a 2.0.2 ipsw because you probably don't have it on your computer to build since you didn't update to 2.0.2 through itunes. i don't think that apple's going to give the Dev Team a link to their firmware so you can update to it just to jailbreak. :)

you need to download the latest firmware through itunes- plug in, click download and install, then unplug. it will download it onto your computer. then re-run pwnage and you'll see the 2.0.2 official ipsw and can build a custom one.

Yeah, I just realized I didn't download the 2.0.2 file in advance. Downloading now... thanks

No prob. :) I think I'm probably going to just pass on 2.0.2 and install the next one, but on the other hand, I did kind of want to experiment with trying a Pwnage install that has neither Installer nor Cydia, so I might try that on 2.0.2....

What are you talking about? You can easily download the ipsw restore disks from apple. here is the link to 2.0.2 for 2G iPhones and here is the one for 3G phones.

I have a 2G iPhone with 2.0.1 firmware that was pwned with pwnage 2.0.2. I've just re-pwned my iPhone with 2.0.3. The install went okay except when I'm at the iTunes point where it asks me to restore my iPhone and I restore my phone with my last backup, it keeps asking me to restore my iPhone. On my iPhone, I've got all of my contacts, calendars, etc. but I can't access the iPhone settings because it keeps wanting me to restore it. What's wrong?

Hi guys..my virgin post here...just saw that the dev team released Pwnage Tool 2.0.3 to support FW2.0.2...i read in the FAQ that if Pwnage Tool had successfully pwned my 2.0.1 FW with Pwnage Tool 2.0.2 i do not need to do it again on FW 2.0.2..

So my take is that with my pwned FW2.0.1..I just plug in my 3G iphone to itunes and do the normal FW upgrade to 2.0.2 from there? And when it's done it'll remain JB and I do not have to run Pwnage Tool 2.0.3 on it again?

I don't mind doing it again since everything on my iphone can be re-sync and re-install thru itunes but I just wanna be very sure of this so I dun brick my iphone(if it's that easy to brick at all)!

TIA!

just restore as new iphone instead of backup and resync. ;)

ugh this pwnage was a much bigger pain in the ass than pwning 2.0.1 was. I was getting all sorts of errors and had to use a much older backup than my most recent one, meaning I lost all sorts of settings. I hope 2.0.2 is worth the hassle.

Quick question for those that have used this app. Does it upgrade the baseband? I think the newest one is 1.48 and I'm running 1.45 via 2.01 pwn'd from 2.0

Just wondering cuz I'm thinking about upgrading to 2.02 legit and was wondering if I could come back and re-pwn if I wanted to, I don't really care about unlocking phone later.

Thanks

If edtorious's advice above doesn't work, one reason this happens sometimes is that Pwnage created a bad pwn'd IPSW file. This happened to me with 2.0.1 the first time I tried it. If this is the case, you have to have Pwnage create a new IPSW (i.e. run through the Pwnage process again). If you get the same results again, then try changing some minor setting (like add/remove Installer from your build list or something like that).

Thanks. I ended up doing this, and it did "work." I ended up losing all of my stored songs/podcasts. I had to reload all of my songs. It did save all of my email accounts and wifi passwords. The only thing I was forced to do was to load my songs back on. An annoyance, but I probably needed to refresh my song lists anyway.

I also have this issue and its highly annoying, yes setting up the phone as new will fix it....temporarily BUT as soon as you restore again and try to restore from the new backup you created as a result of setting up the phone as newpreviously, you're back at square one again.

This only started after using pwnage and its pissing me off. No change either if you restore to an official non-jailbroken firmware.

I've tried to re-install iTunes, downgrade to 1.1.4 etc but no dice i always get the flipping 'Setup iPhone' screen.
