It's finally official, Diablo 3 is coming May 15th! I've been in the beta since Christmas so I guess it doesn't feel as if I've been waiting quite as long as some but the wait has still been too long. So glad that it's finally coming out.

Sure, it's still 2 months away but at least it's a set date.

FYI I think i read somewhere that this pre purchase stops on May 1st.

So if you choose to join the queues, no ones stopping you.

edit: oh apologies, I think thats only for WoW Annual Pass Holders. My mistake!

Do we have confirmation on system requirements yet? I'm mostly wondering if my late 2009 MBP 13" is going to run it (or if I'll have to wait until I upgrade computers in August or September).

EDIT: Maybe I should note... I'm sure it will run it, but will it run it well enough to be reasonably playable is the real question I suppose.

Those were announced for the beta months ago. They might change by the release but probably not much.

Requirements

The recommended specs are even pretty low but it might not run amazingly well.

Its finally coming out but I have to save my $ for more important things...there is always Christmas! :D

Oh cool, thanks, I hadn't seen those yet. My computer is 2.26 ghz, 9400M graphics card, but I did up the RAM to 8 GB, so hopefully that'll help the GPU keep up a little better. if not, there is always the upgrade (and hopefully a 15" with whatever discrete graphics card there is at the time will be able to handle it and GW2).

D3 is brutal on the 9400m. I was wondering why it sucked so bad and then I realized I was on 9400m. Switched to 9600m and it was a LOT better. Good luck! :(

Figures. It comes out after I lose interest in it.

Blizzard takes far too long in their development cycles. Many companies make much better games than they do with much less time. (And don't announce a game is "coming soon" and have it show up 2+ years later.)

Honestly I don’t see an issue with what Blizzard does. Yes, they take a lot of development time but they release perfect games when they do. Most companies rush a release and then spend the next 6-8 months patching and fixing major issues while their customers complain. Blizzard takes the time beforehand, makes the game perfect and saves the headache post release.

Having played the beta I can tell you that D3 is most certainly worth the wait.

I wouldn't say perfect by any means. Their games are solid, but not without issues.

The problem with what they do is they announce far too early. It did benefit them in some sense with Diablo 3 because after the backlash on the 2001-ish looking graphics after their initial video releases, they redid the art and the cinematics to be on par with todays standards which ended up getting a mention on the CGSociety boards.

Generally though if you announce too early people get excited, then lose interest. Balancing hype and delivery time is the best thing to do.

I still may get it. After looking at the link you posted I've been tempted to just order it.

Yeah, thats what I was afraid of... I may build a Windows tower, suffer through it, or upgrade early (or wait. I guess I could do that too).

Uhhhh?

Diablo 3 hasn't undergone any major graphical overhaul than what one might expect from a game moving from development to release. In fact, what was seen at its original preview is much closer to what we have now than what can be said for Starcraft 2.

Also I disagree with your assertion that Blizzard announces their games too early. Putting aside occasional delays, they're pretty consistent about when they announce new titles, and unsurprisingly all of their titles have been pretty successful nonetheless.

You don't remember the Monk video they posted on Facebook about 2 years ago that everyone was in an uproar about?

The graphics have definitely changed. Maybe not in game as much wasn't shown in game back then but the cinematics definitely received an enormous boost.

I would have to agree. They announce it when they think it's ready to be shown off. If there is something completely wrong, they go and fix it. I might take a year, but they have the funds and the fortitude to do it right the first time. Are there still bugs, sure, but they are far less than other games that come out these days.

On the graphical side, Blizzard has never been about flash and tricks (with the exception of their cinematic, which are amazing), they are more about the overall user experience. If it's not the shiniest thing, that's ok to them and most people who play their games. As long as they can reach a lot of people, people have fun, and the game is fluid, that's all that counts. Something being shiny will only last so long, but great game play keeps us coming back for more. I mean look at Diablo II, it doesn't look all that great, but people are still playing it since it's still really fun.

Their cinematics are outragously amazing. XD

Ordered up the second I read the news today. And the game only has about 20 minutes to finish downloading. Now time to rush through some playthroughs of the games I have been just pushing off because come May 15th I will be all over D3 for a while.

So glad Diablo III his a release date now, Can't wait to play it, Since I know I probably won't be in the Beta to check it out.

How many games are played 15 years after release? Blizzard knows what they're doing.

I do agree that their development time is ridiculously long.

Very next sentence...

You're going to get it. Even if you don't, Blizzard doesn't care because millions of others will.

My Amazon Collectors' Edition pre-order sent an updated tentative email delivery date of May 18th though. Hm. Not like it matters too much. If I don't have a new computer by then, I wouldn't be able to run it regardless of when it shows up.
