Hello

Diablo III will it ever appear, I do not care anymore......

The way Blizzard are keeping people hanging on for this game I think may backfire on them.

Most gamers me included hear about a new game, they read about it and see in game graphics, and
they want it. Then the company keeps throwing out tit bits of graphics in game content etc etc, this
goes on and on and on and on. No release dates are ever given, do they really believe that they can
keep people hanging on forever ? I would think by the time this is released most people would have
moved on.

I was excited at first about Diablo III, but now that excitement has really really diminished to point of
I really do not care if they release it or not, shooting themselves in the foot ?

I think so.

Blizzard takes this long. They polish their games, they don't release half-assed products like most other game developers.

But by all means, you go ahead and buy the games from the EA factory. :)

Did they punt it too soon? Yes
Will everyone still buy it? Yes.

None issue.

I'm not sure why you're making such a big issue out of it. Blizzard like Valve are known to operate in this way. They don't give release dates until just before the release. Their policy is that their games will be released when they are done and ready and not before. they are not ones to rush development and make sure their games are as good as they can be before releasing them. They have always been like this with all their games. at the end of the day they will still sell a lot of copies and it will still be successful. if you don't have the patience then so be it. I rather they take their time and make as good a game as possible then rush it and release it to early.

Are we talking about the same company which released a patch on the same day Diablo 2 was released?

They reason why they are taking their time is because so much of their resources is devoted to supporting their key money spinner, WoW. I mean, SC2 was fun at all, but I had expected more from a game that was so long in the making.

Not true, they are seperate teams. SC2 team started working on the game after they finished The Frozen Throne.

What exactly is your point?

Yes Diablo 3 is late. Is Blizzard a tease? Absolutely.

In general their products are worth the wait, and unlike many devs they support them, make changes and updates.

Will Diablo 3 be a huge seller? Without a doubt. Diablo is a world and system that works for both the casual gamer and the hardcore gamer. They have addressed (for better or worse) many of the flaws in previous versions. The original premise and game mechanics remain simialr and familiar and graphics, while not state of the art will work on a variety of machines.

All in all it will come out, have decent enough reviews. Some will hate it, many will love it and most will buy i and it will hold us over for the next 6 t 10 years.

Buisness strategy did they peak the hype too soon? Perhaps, but gamers are fickle. When it is available people will review it, post reviews, etc.

Duke Nukem was recently released after winning vapor ware awards for over a decade. It still go a decent reception and continues to make a profit for the developers.

Lets face it, game houses that are small and indy are a rare breed. Ever rarer on the PC/Mac platform. The indy houses are all about iOS. Blizzard is a part of EA a HUGE comapny. Along with the resources that helps them comes the red tape and BS that hurts them. I have read much of the original talent that developed D2 has left the company so that hurts, but then fresh blood brings new ideas and creativity.

Diablo 3 will be a great game. It has huge shoes to fill and hopefully will be as fin as D2 and endure for a long time.

A year ago Star Craft 2 came out after a long delay. It is a great game. Not perfect, but still very good, very playable and fun. I have to say multiplayer has gotten a bit dumb with some of the cheese strategies that just take the fun away but they will be balanced or overcome in time.

Diablo while PvP is a huge compenent the main game play is the quest for PvM and treaure and items. That seems to be solid.

In short, Diablo 3 will do just fine. If you choose not to care, then save $60 and don't buy it.I myself wish it would come out soon so I can play!

Blizzard is actually a part of Activision. That said they are for the most part independent of Activision control and management wise and the way they operate and work has not really changed since they joined Activision. If any of the team has left it's not because of the merger and is perfectly normal. In the gaming industry people leave and form their own companies or join other teams all the time.

Blizzard will print money when Diablo III comes out. Blizzard does what they like, and they will sell a ton of copies.

Eh, I have to disagree with this. This is Blizzards excuse (as it was them who originally said it in an interview years and years ago) as to why their games take so long, here are just as many companies with games equal to or better with much shorter development times.

To the OP: I agree. I don't care anymore either. You can't try and hype people up for over two years and expect them to still be excited.

By now the game (unless it got overhauled since the preview's I've seen) is not up to todays graphics standards and while that isn't important to me, it will be to many players.

Blizzard should have announced within a year of finishing development at the most.

Blizzard is Bentley and EA is GM.
Quality before quantity.
I rarely play game anymore at 30 years old, but I always make some time for SC, WOW, Diablo. Even if I don't play them for a while, I always come back to them. Now why do you think that is?

me too waiting for diablo 3, it will definitely be released sooner or later, till then there are a lot others to play and have fun.

It is too late IMO. 3 years of open development? Way too long to tease.

I would have preordered it, should they have announced it <1 year from release, but as of now, I've last almost all interest in it. I will buy it, but not until it hit 10$.

Their loss, not mine.

I feel the same exact way. I remember seeing a facebook page on it a long time ago, video's, and teases but now I lost interest. Its a shame because it looked good but your right, three years is too long.

How long did we wait for StarCraft II? 10 years? I'd rather them take their time and deliver the superior product they want to deliver than half-ass it and have it suck. Then again, I have better things with which to occupy my time than sit on my duff and whine that Blizzard is moving too slow for my tastes.

Yes. Although at the moment I'm not liking the "always on, always connected" requirement to play the game.

That really kills it when I could be playing the game at school in between classes or something; sure I can just connect to the internet but there are times when I want to just play alone or at a place with no Wifi.

That was also way too long if you ask me, as it hit 3 years also.

I do believe in them delivering a great product, but if they want to sell the game on hype, then they need to announce it much closer to the release date. The game won't be worse if I order it 2 years after it was released, compared to 2 days - But they will loose money on it.

I really am excited to play it, I never played the older ones but I remember friends in WoW getting me excited for it 3 years ago now.

Starcraft2 was good but not worth the wait I don't think. Like many I will be buying Diablo3 but I don't think it will be at release, as soon as some retailers start discounting it I will look at buying it, but you can bet Blizzard won't discount it themselves for a long time.

But speaking of that, how many people of the general public know about it coming out? People are excited and, with games, it isn't like you're showing TV spots and letting everybody know it's coming. It's similar to new Macs coming out.

Everybody here KNEW the new Air was coming within August. We knew it. The general public did not. Did that hinder sales of it? No. Yea I know it's slightly different with the idea that we weren't supposed to know, but we did know regardless.

The hardcore fans know and they will be the ones buying it, because there's simply nothing like it. Just look at Skyrim. People are going crazy for every single video posted. if you look, you can find the 40 minute gameplay video online that wasn't supposed to be recorded.

I'm assuming you mean for yourself? Head over to MajorLeagueGaming. Starcraft is definitely the leading competative game nationwide; moving Halo out of 1st place. I didn't believe it when I heard it but when one of my friends told me about the fanbase and how large it has gotten, mainly because it's something "new" and Halo is, to be honest, terrible with Reach, I can see why it's such a big game.

I personally don't have it yet though but I will be getting it later on.

I think that you and the OP are wrong on this. BioWare was hyping people for over 3 years and still nothing(talking about SW:The Old Republic).Only a pre-order option and still no release date. Try to understand....nice things take time and polishing. These companies (Blizzard including) need to organize support teams, hardware, beta testers. All that takes time and resources. Not to mention the marketing strategy and all that. They are the best in what they do, so a little wait time won't kill anybody.
Cheers.

Yeah, I did mean for me, I know the game has a strong community and is very competitive, for me it wasn't worth the wait. I have the collectors edition though and it is a good game. I just get absoloutley hammered online every time, I dont have the time to put in the hours learning strategys for it sadly!

I totally agree with your points, but you still have a big user base who know it is comming out, and like me, will not buy it. I think this thread has the proof of that. And for those literate casual gamers, or pseudo-hardcore if you will (;)), they might be the ones that are good at spreading the word to casual gamers.

Of course, this probably won't be more than 5-10% of the income *at most*, but my point was only that they'll loose money, not how much.

I still have a big user base who won't get it like you? How on earth do you know this? And this thread? Proof? This thread that has 23 posts? Really?

Are you reading what you're posting? For one, there's no way of you even getting a reasonable guess on a rough percentage as, for one, the internet is just too big. Two, If you spent a month scouring pretty much every internet forum, you STILL wouldn't get a good rough estimate as not everybody posts (I see more people here as guests than members 90 percent of the time) and not everybody knows.

But seriously, you aren't really saying what you just said right?

Well, I do consider more than one persons statement as proof of what I'm saying. Since I'm clearly not alone in my opinion, which you can see by reading just this page and the one before, and taken the rest of the planets sub-7 billion people into account, then yes.

And like I already stated, if you had read my post properly, I didn't make any claims as to the amount.

Less whine, more thinking please.

Your first problem is thinking your opinion + some unknown number of others = proof. Your entire argument hangs on that premise alone which, technically, is an argument from authority. Which is invalid.

I mean I'm not saying people won't buy it because of the changes but that applies to everything. Simply stating people won't buy it due to x and x means nothing. If it sold drastically less BECAUSE of x and x, then you have a case.

However, when the thing isn't even out yet and the general public doesn't know the intricacies of the game, which is STILL subject to change between now and release, you can't really hold a strong argument for it.

People continue to buy halo after more and more complain about the game not being good. Hell I was semi-pro at Halo 3 at one point (MLG Gaming of course) and I loved it. Sold the Xbox and I hate Reach. I played it for a bit but it just isn't the same.

That doesn't stop millions of people from buying it. If the game is great, overall, people will overlook flaws and buy it. If Diablo 3 is great, people will buy it. You can't just look at a few points of information released months before the game comes out and then say, because YOU don't like it, that that's proof that people won't buy it.

How much sense does that make?
