That's the explanation, but giving us something that looks pretty but has far less functionality is a step backward not forwards IMO.

I think for battery saving purposes they removed functionality.

Oh I completely agree with you. I don't want certain apps to update for fear they will remove functionality using ios 14 code.

They’re completely broken on my phone, so no. I don’t use them.
