Greetings MB owners,
last night (DK time), Apple released a firmware update, fixing fan issues in the MacBook's. In my thread about this, many MooBook owners reports, that it got rid of the moo for them. How did this firmware update affect your MacBook?

I never had moo on my MacBook, but the firmware update has definiantly made it run 10 C degrees cooler, and make it generally snappier, for example opening applications and Finder windows.;)

Remember this is multiple choice. Also, specify whether your MacBook moo'ed before the firmware update.
 
I shall install it tonight. I've never had a problem with my MB in terms of mooing, but it does run at quite a high temp (around 60). Hopefully it can get my MB to run cooler.
 
bah... its like a freakin trade off. Now that the firmware has installed, the fan is always on. Of course like the Moo it was very quiet, so it can only be heard in a dead silent room. But I much rather have a nice hum then a moo.

Same here. There is a constant noise in the background, but the Moo has gone. Someone's got to write a song about the Moo. :( ;)
 
In my opinion... i think there should actually be, was the constant hum worth the moo being gone? Alot of people seem to not like the fix

I personally can live with either, so Im happy either way.

What? A hum? If I go into complete silence, and stick my ear all way down to the keyboard, I can weakly hear the fan spinning silently. I tihnk you're being too touchy... ;)
 
I'm glad that apple fix major problem as new firmware update today. it definitely drops my macbook more than 10C. it runs cooler than ever. I just remind you that I played a game (ford racing 2) for three hours last night for testing. it only went up to 65C ~ 67C. it was like 73C ~ 78C previously. it's a big change. now I'm very comfortable to use mine anywhere even on my lap. I can't hear fan running noise or mooing. well, actually I didn't have moo~ before. it also seems to reduce hard drive temperature, too. so overall it will also save battery life. fan is running on very lower RPM which nobody really notice unless you take ears close to keyboard to listen. I don't use battery after update. but I will do it today. it's good time to test battery life today. actually I will fly to San Francisco today.:)
 
This sucks

Well, it got rid of the moo.

But now the fan is running almost constantly unless the computer is *completely* idle. If I do *anything*, like open a couple of browser windows, the fan comes on. And god forbid I actually scroll some text, because it doesn't take much to kick the fan into high gear.

This is worse than the moo. With the moo, I was able to work around it by using the "Quiet MBPro" app to keep the temperature just high enough that it wouldn't moo. Now I've got a damn jet plane on my desk.

I am so pissed right now... I'd roll this update back in a heartbeat if I could.
 
Average "idle" temperature dropped drastically from ~78°C to ~55°C. I only heard the moo under very specific circumstances before, so i don't know if it's gone, but the temperaturedrop makes me very pleased with this update.

yeah, I guess this is where having a very good hearing is a bad thing:p

I usually listen to music, but form what I've heard, the moo is much worse than this. I've also had improvements remember, cooler and faster MB!:D
 
Just installed it 5mins ago when the system updater decided to notify me about this. We shall have to see how this affects the system. Removing moo and making this run cooler would be a nice tradeoff I'm happy to take.

Now I'm only waiting for a system update to clear the stains off the wrist support... :rolleyes:
 
I wonder how this affects battery life, with the fan being on a lot more than it used to be. I haven't installed the update yet, as I have yet to experience the mooing problem, and my MacBook runs no hotter than my old TiBook did. I guess I'll continue to wait and see what everyone thinks. There seems to be mixed reaction so far.
 
I never had the moo, but I installed the firmware update anyway. After the update, I've been running great.

My fan has NOT been running all the time, either. The firmware update works great for me.

The fans themselves may be part of the issue as well. My macbook would make mooing actions (spinning up the fan repeatedly), but there was no accompanying 'moo' sound. Perhaps the fans in some macbooks are louder than others, resulting in some people being more annoyed.

So far as my 'Book is concerned, the fan is running constantly, but unless the processor is under moderate load I can't hear it unless I get close enough to hear the processor whine (ear up to the keyboard).
 
After seeing this firmware update, it's made me feel a lot more secure about buying a Macbook! Definetly laying my money down next monday for this machine :D
 
I prefer the way the machine sounds now (I had a mild moo - it was more like a reverse-moo, making more of a noise on the spin-down), but battery life seems to be reduced by about 15 minutes. Bleh. It is about 10-12° C cooler overall.

*shrug*

Now... a whine fix? :eek:
 
Where's the "made no difference" option?

I'm not complaining - my wife's MacBook didn't whine or moo and yesterday idled at about 57˚C (which seems to be at the lower end of the MB heat scale).

After the update, it still doesn't whine or moo, and currently the temperature is about 53˚C. Yes, that's cooler, but the ambient temperature is 2-3˚C lower than it was yesterdy.

I don't hear any fan noise unless my ear is about 3" from the keyboard.
 
IMO the options for this poll should have been:

Decreased noise and/or temperature
Increased noise and/or temperature.
Made no difference.

The options given are somewhat objective, I mean "made it snappier" :confused:

I don't know if had the moo before upgrading the firmware, my hearing is so bad that I couldn't care anyway.

Well, now after upgrading I'm always hearing the fan, so I'm not so happy. At least it dropped almost 10 Cº.

I called Apple Support to let them know about the fix and ask them if it would be possible to apple fix this with software (asking if mine was the "bad" fan model that caused the moo) and the guy told me in doubt that surely it would need a hardware fix. :(

My first port guys even if I've been almost a year reading all of u :rolleyes:
