I bought a new 3,1 and later a used 4,1.

Bought my 5,1 2012 in 2016 to replace my 2007 i7 iMac27.
The 5,1 is very reliable, especially after my updates (more RAM, SSD's; CPU update from 2,4 now to 3,x to come).
The 27" has been upgraded with a SSD for the OS and is still doing fine for my wife

Bought a used 4,1 back in 2012 then a refurb 6,1 in 2015. If the 7,1 will make a big difference for my day to day upon release I will buy it new.
Bought a PowerMac G4 new, then a Powermac G5, then a 3,1 Mac Pro.
But my last 4,1 was nearly new, and then i very recently bought another second hand 4,1 to swap the dual CPU board into my original 4,1.
I hope by the time the 7,1 comes out, I'll grab a new one.

I've tried to buy used on 3 separate occasions...
In every case it was either cheaper to buy new from B&H or Apple directly, or only saved a couple hundred bucks.
And Its always cheaper to buy new from B&H then from the Apple refurb store if you are located in California.
I don't consider spending $300 less and not having an Apple Care purchase option as a "savings".
At this point w/ my history of Apple and the amount of Mac tear downs I've done,
I consider Apple Care a requirement - the slapdash job of some Foxcon workers is as disturbing as their working conditions.
The only place to buy my last nMP new from was Apple directly,
several vendors on the phone told me it was discontinued or on 2/3 month back-order.
In every case it was either cheaper to buy new from B&H or Apple directly, or only saved a couple hundred bucks.

I worked on an OOW iMac recently, and 3 screws just fell out from the logic board, one was to the heatsink GPU retainer bracket - it had definitely not been opened since it was sold by apple.

Because you're allowing multiple selections? Sounds like the poll is comparing votes vs users that have voted, which means if everyone selected all 3 options then it would say 300%?
Just a guess.I bought my 6,1 new, BTO. The 5,1 used just recently.
Last month, bought a used 2010 2.8 GHz quad with an ATI 5870 from an Apple reseller. Immediately upgraded to a new SSD with a fresh Sierra install. Still 8 GB original RAM, but a (new to me) 3.33 GHz chip has shipped and will arrive next week. Cant' wait!
I'm very, very happy with flawless stability and lightning quick performance, even before a memory and chip upgrade, and expect to use it for years and years. I ran S.Leopard for years after it was unsupported and expect to do the same for whatever OS this beast can continue to use.
I also just get an inordinate amount of pleasure from owning a beautifully engineered and designed machine that exudes high-end quality every time I look at it or touch it to change a component inside. With my upgrades, total cost $1000 CAD. Best computer I ever bought.

My 4,1 was new from Apple.
But if I go for the 7,1 (depends on what it actually is), or even 8,1, most likely will wait for refurbish. My 4,1 should be good enough for me in the next few years. I have no rush to upgrade to the new one. And from the MacBook Pro's price, I don't think the 7,1 will come with a "user friendly" price tag. Even I can afford it, but there is still no reason for me to buy this highly likely over price computer. Since I can get 15% off from Apple (discount from my Apple staff friend), so, extra 15% off from the refurbish price most likely will be an attractive price for me.

I purchased mine used from a seller on eBay a few years ago after always buying new Macs(and one Mac clone) since 1987. It replaced my 2011 27" iMac and 2012 quad-core Mac Mini that were set up as slave/master via VEPro 5 because constantly having to load samples using the iMac and doing the Daw work with the Mac Mini which required juggling two mice and keyboards was a creativity killer for my particular work flow.
Over the past 2 years I have bought 4 cMP from eBay, the best one I have and my daily driver is a 4,1 dual cpu upgraded to x5677's and 64GB of RAM. The other three are a 3,1 another 4,1 but single processor, and my latest a 1,1.
You might ask why I need the 1,1, well it came in a bundle with a 30" cinema display for a really good deal. Plus I get a kick out of using an 11 year Mac that runs the latest software. Not to mention with the upgrades I made it now has 8 cores and 32 GB of RAM.
All 4 bought used on eBay but collected personally by me. Been very lucky no issues other then a blocked headphone jack on the 4,1 single proc. That was easily fixed with a new port.
These Macs are great fun.

Ditto. Was so excited to make the leap from two to four cores. I think we forget, because we're so accustomed to it now, that this was the first Mac with four-core chips—which were only available Xeon-flavored at the time.
