Seems to my young jjahshik32 did a better job ridiculing the latest Mac Pros than any review ever could . ;)

Yet another 08 model owner. Keep em coming. Wow I just noticed there will be ALOT of 08 Mac Pros floating around eBay come this June.

Out of curiosity, jjahshik32, which Mac Pro do you own currently (you say you're in the market for an 09)?

I started out with the 2.66GHz 4 core (1st gen) back in 06 then I sold it off a year later, just hung around with a 15" mbp.

Then early last year I had the 2.8GHz 8 core mac pro, loaded it up with 16GB of RAM, sold it off mid last year, hung around with a 17" mbp.

And I ended up selling the 17" mbp for the 15" unibody mbp and used it until I got this mac mini and sold it off. And right now I'm chugging along fine with the mac mini + 24" LED ACD.

Basically since 06 I've been through all the 15" mbp models, 17" mbp and hi res models, 20" ACD, 23" ACD, 30" ACD, 2.66GHz mac pro, 2.8GHz 8 core mac pro (actually I had it twice rigged it up and sold it good prices on eBay). I actually got tired of the Mac Pros since most of the time the mbp did the job ok enough but of course I wanted more power later on.

But the new Nehalem intrigues me. I'm currently just waiting until the 3.2GHz nehalems are officially announced (originally I was going to pick one up either the 2.26GHz or the 2.66GHz model at my local store) but I'm going to wait until around summer.

Actually I'm going to wait until SL is shipped along with the Nehalem Mac Pros. I have a very strong feeling it'll be worth the surprise (speed bump, much faster with SL as it is right now with Leopard, etc..).

I dont use the Mac Pro's power 24/7 but I do really really heavy multitasking things with 6-8 spaces open and the mini so far restricts me down to just 4 spaces. Once or twice a week I might render something hd movies but while the mbp takes 2x longer, I have some time to kill, might as well save money. But I noticed recently my hunger for power grows again.

so, besides having too much money to **** around with mac pros, do you actually USED one for ANYTHING? because if you really needed one you would not sell it, i know i wouldnt sell mine...
you use it for what? 6-8 space of different forum sites? and rendering movies. you need to render movies fast, because you are a movie producer? no? bootlegger? no? just using mac pro as home cinema?

nobody EVERY said that nehalem is slower than penryn (globally), but stop spreading lies about Snow Leopard Magically boosting nehalems into the sky and leaving else behind, its based on pure fiction, your imagination! you dont have ANY facts or source to defend that statement.

its funny how many people have ignored you. :D no i am not jealous, i love my mac pro, and as i stated, i made more money with it than the 500$ price difference between than and now. :)

and nehalem isnt future proofing, just to shatter your dreams. there is no such thing as futureproofing a computer, except if you jump into the future and buy a computer there and come back :D but you have to be sure to "past proof" it :D

and by the way, you dont even have a mac pro, so stop giving advice about it...

. . .

'09 MP owners are going to become guinea pigs, and I'm saying this with an '09 MP scheduled to arrive today. I'm very excited and very impressed about what I've seen, but we've already seen some existing software suffer on the new MPs, and more bugs will appear when SL is released and/or when new software is developed to run on it. Right now, the '08 MPs are incredibly fast and incredibly STABLE. Most developer bugs on this machine have been thoroughly squashed. So, in that respect, our '08 MP owners currently have an advantage. The ProTools users who are having issues on their '09s aren't bragging about how fast their new machines are, at least not yet.

. . .)

This is also an important issue for me. Stability and working out of bugs in the design and implementation. I do not like to jump on the just-released-latest-and-greatest product for exactly this reason. I never upgrade my OS at version .1. I always wait for .2 or .3. So, the fact that the MP08 is a proven entity appeals to me, even though that comes at the cost of being slightly "out of date". It's a trade off. For me, I like a super-stable set up. I will sacrifice for it, both in hardware and software. I hate it when a computer locks up or behaves erratically or is buggy. This is why I love OS X and Macs so much. I work with both Windows PC machines and Macs and know both Windows and OS X. I was ready to jump on either an 09 or an 08 and I very carefully and rationally weighed things and decided on an 08. Suggesting that 08 owners are biased and blindered and fanatical is, again, just insulting (as a general statement).

The bickering in this thread is just stupid and pointless. We've totally moved off topic and are providing no useful information.

I bought the MP08 at pretty close to full price--$200 off or something like that--and I'm quite happy about that. I have no psychological need to "trash" the nehalems in order to "feel good" about my MP or to "defend it". What the heck? Stop psychologizing people.

Yes, the nehalems are faster, especially if you can afford the higher end models--although it should be noted that this is NOT true in the specific case of photohop!--and yes the will be faster still when SL is released, but what no one has even remotely challenged is that the MP08 is simply a much better value ( value = performance / dollar), especially at discount pricing.

SL won't change that equation by very much and the 08's will still be a better value for most people's needs. (Assuming they need that much power in the first place, of course).

Oh please. Continue to defend your hardware, I dont blame ya since the new precious is out and especially when you spent $2799 for your old precious probably a few months ago when it can be had for $1899 (business) $2499 (no business) now at the local apple store.

Are you perhaps trying to rationalize and justify to yourself
yet another Mac Pro purchase? It comes across like that to
me. You've already had and got rid of two Mac Pros. Seems
like you don't know what you want. Here is what you wrote
not so long ago:

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/532263/

I went to the apple store and picked up the 2.8ghz
mac pro, 23" Apple Cinema display (no dead/stuck
pixels, no pink hue, perfect!!), apple care, harman
kardon sound sticks II and everyone gleaming at me
in the crowded ass mall and apple store of jealousy
and I'm back!

I dont know WHY I gave this up in the first place
damnit!! Screw Nehalem, I'm set for 4-5 years now!!
I'm done~

4-5 jjahshik32 years last 8 normal months, apparently :)

Not really since I could still buy the 08 model at my local apple store for $1899 easily. They still have a few left.

I'm DEFINITELY going to buy the Nehalem models over the 08. I want newer not older hardware at this point.

I just cant make my mind up between the 2.26GHz or the 2.66GHz. I'm leaning towards the 2.26GHz since it is faster than a 3.2Ghz of last gen but just about only 10% slower than the 2.66GHz Nehalem model.

Also since I know myself that next revision I'd sell my Nehalem again and upgrade. I loose a couple to few $100 bucks but whats $300 in a year for newer hardware every year? I just see it as a rent fee.

I was thinking more along these lines: you bought and sold two
Penryn Mac Pros in a short space of time. Presumably at a loss.
And now you are considering getting a Nehalem machine despite
writing "screw Nehalem" not long ago. And you feel you have to
justify (to yourself) that irrational behaviour in some way.

Not really short, I used it for a good 4 1/2 months and sold it, then bought it again a month later and sold it on craigslist to some photographer.

I might pick up the Nehalem mac pro tonight.

And I've already owned all the mac pro models, so I know more than you especially in real world tests. I cant wait to see how fast the Nehalems are in real world use compared to the 2.8 octos.

Enough please.

Trolling, personal insults. Where are the post reports?

Some people will most likely be getting time outs as a result of their actions in this thread.
