Seems to my young jjahshik32 did a better job ridiculing the latest Mac Pros than any review ever could .![]()
Yet another 08 model owner. Keep em coming. Wow I just noticed there will be ALOT of 08 Mac Pros floating around eBay come this June.

Out of curiosity, jjahshik32, which Mac Pro do you own currently (you say you're in the market for an 09)?
I started out with the 2.66GHz 4 core (1st gen) back in 06 then I sold it off a year later, just hung around with a 15" mbp.
Then early last year I had the 2.8GHz 8 core mac pro, loaded it up with 16GB of RAM, sold it off mid last year, hung around with a 17" mbp.
And I ended up selling the 17" mbp for the 15" unibody mbp and used it until I got this mac mini and sold it off. And right now I'm chugging along fine with the mac mini + 24" LED ACD.
Basically since 06 I've been through all the 15" mbp models, 17" mbp and hi res models, 20" ACD, 23" ACD, 30" ACD, 2.66GHz mac pro, 2.8GHz 8 core mac pro (actually I had it twice rigged it up and sold it good prices on eBay). I actually got tired of the Mac Pros since most of the time the mbp did the job ok enough but of course I wanted more power later on.
But the new Nehalem intrigues me. I'm currently just waiting until the 3.2GHz nehalems are officially announced (originally I was going to pick one up either the 2.26GHz or the 2.66GHz model at my local store) but I'm going to wait until around summer.
Actually I'm going to wait until SL is shipped along with the Nehalem Mac Pros. I have a very strong feeling it'll be worth the surprise (speed bump, much faster with SL as it is right now with Leopard, etc..).
I dont use the Mac Pro's power 24/7 but I do really really heavy multitasking things with 6-8 spaces open and the mini so far restricts me down to just 4 spaces. Once or twice a week I might render something hd movies but while the mbp takes 2x longer, I have some time to kill, might as well save money. But I noticed recently my hunger for power grows again.
. . .
'09 MP owners are going to become guinea pigs, and I'm saying this with an '09 MP scheduled to arrive today. I'm very excited and very impressed about what I've seen, but we've already seen some existing software suffer on the new MPs, and more bugs will appear when SL is released and/or when new software is developed to run on it. Right now, the '08 MPs are incredibly fast and incredibly STABLE. Most developer bugs on this machine have been thoroughly squashed. So, in that respect, our '08 MP owners currently have an advantage. The ProTools users who are having issues on their '09s aren't bragging about how fast their new machines are, at least not yet.
. . .)
Oh please. Continue to defend your hardware, I dont blame ya since the new precious is out and especially when you spent $2799 for your old precious probably a few months ago when it can be had for $1899 (business) $2499 (no business) now at the local apple store.
I went to the apple store and picked up the 2.8ghz
mac pro, 23" Apple Cinema display (no dead/stuck
pixels, no pink hue, perfect!!), apple care, harman
kardon sound sticks II and everyone gleaming at me
in the crowded ass mall and apple store of jealousy
and I'm back!
I dont know WHY I gave this up in the first place
damnit!! Screw Nehalem, I'm set for 4-5 years now!!
I'm done~
Are you perhaps trying to rationalize and justify to yourself
yet another Mac Pro purchase? It comes across like that to
me.
Not really since I could still buy the 08 model at my local apple store for $1899 easily. They still have a few left.
Also since I know myself that next revision I'd sell my
Nehalem again and upgrade. I loose a couple to few $100 bucks
but whats $300 in a year for newer hardware every year? I just
see it as a rent fee.
I was thinking more along these lines: you bought and sold two
Penryn Mac Pros in a short space of time. Presumably at a loss.
And now you are considering getting a Nehalem machine despite
writing "screw Nehalem" not long ago. And you feel you have to
justify (to yourself) that irrational behaviour in some way.
