I have a Tomtoc Sling. The size is certainly noticeable when carrying and setting with the MKB versus my mini 6 but, it isn’t something that isn’t doable.

Do you carry both the MBP and iPP in that sling? Or is that solely used for the iPP?

Nice bag!

I got the 12.9" iPad Pro when the first one came out, but between the fact that I started going less to the office around that time, and the iPhones became larger and I found them sufficient for my mobile needs, I never did take the 12.9" out of my bag while on the go. So I wondered what the experience was like using it while out. I suppose with the magic keyboard, it's similar to using a laptop while out? Is there anything to the experience that's different from using a laptop?

You are right. The experience is like that of using a laptop albeit it it is much, much, lighter and thinner. The other big plus for me is the cellular ability. It makes being mobile that much nicer than a MB or MBA.

They be charging more over here where I live, the iPad Air M2 starts at $720 and the iPad Pro M4 starts at $1,253. Either way I'm spending more for both. Also, no Official Apple Stores here, just Re-sellers so maybe why they are overpriced from other markets. I visited the store a while ago, checked both, iPad Air M2 and iPad Pro M4. Man, the pro has got me drooling with the form and the OLED screen 😅 I think I need more time to think it over before I purchase 😆
They charge even more again here in Australia. In the official Apple Store, the 10th Gen iPad is $599, the Air starts at $999, and the Pro starts at $1699!!!

My iPad Air 2 is really showing its age now, and I could really use the upgrade to a 13”, but I’m having a hard time considering $1299 for the base Air 13”.

Is all a moot point really, though. I can’t even afford a 10th gen right now.

I‘d say get the right device for your use case. If you‘re not crazy about the OLED screen then the other iPad models are likely perfectly fine for you. Both chips will be overkill for all but the most niche use cases for a long time. There‘s really no need to spend in excess of 1000€ for a device that will be doing basic everyday computing tasks.

I'm surprised that most people turn to forums to find out what they really need.
Find the things you value most and see if any of the iPad line up matches them.
I myself cannot live without 120hz or above, so no matter what I do, I default to the iPad pro.

I would not agree that a 12.9" iPad plus MKB is "much, much, lighter and thinner" than the current MBA. I don't think you would notice the difference in a bag or carrying around in hand.

Umm… I think the context in which they were describing the weight difference is the 14” MBP (based on their signature), not the MBA. The MBA was only brought up in regard to cellular capabilities.

Ok. But, why would you buy a MBP if you are considering an iPad as your laptop? Shouldn't an MBA be more than enough for someone that can get by with an iPad? If this is about having touch or pencil support, the MBP is not going to do anything more for you than a MBA.

Honestly, I still don't get it, but I haven't read every post in this thread, so I could be missing something.

It wasn't about considering a MBP or iPad... they already own an MBP. And you have to ask @Apple_Robert why would they go with an iPad over an MBA.

Well, the discussion started from their experience with using the iPad Pro... in that led to how they prefer taking the iPad over a MBP when going out.

I bought the M3 MBP in November of last year. I also had a M2 MBA at the time and ended up trading in for gift cards. I got the M4 iPad Pro because 1) it is less expensive than my MBP 2) and the M4 can be an iPad with cellular which I wanted in a larger layout, or it could be a smaller footprint Mac when needed, that also can be cellular. The M4 by itself is lighter than the MBP or MBA I had, and it can be multiple products for me at the same time.

Here's a similar question.. I recently gave my old iPad gen 6 to my daughter so I'm looking at a replacement. Although money is not really and issue I have an aversion to spending $1000 on a iPad Pro. It just rubs me the wrong way AND is grossly overkill for my needs. My old iPad 128 GB SSD and that was perfectly sized for me. The iPad gen 10 with only 64 GB disc would need a $100 "upgrade" to 256GB. This makes it only $100 less than the iPad Air M2 base unit which does have 128 GB SSD. I'm thinking the better chip might be useful in the future. I'm leaning towards the iPad Air.
If you need the 128gb storage space and can’t make do with the base 10th gen iPad at 64gb, then I really do think the iPad Air M2 is the better “value”. It sucks that you have to play Apple’s ”pricing ladder” game, but:

10th gen iPad:
64 gb: $349
256gb: $499

11” iPad Air M2:
128gb: $599
256gb: $699

You’re in the unfortunate no-man’s land… I think you have the right perspective - I would 100% get the base 11” iPad Air at $599 over the 10th iPad 256gb at $499. Significantly better iPad for not that much more.
