there seems to be dust trapped between the actual LCD screen and the outer glass pannel. Does this happen to everyone or is my mac bunk? and if this is normal am i going to have to pay to have it taken apart and cleaned every 2 months?

If u dont have 10 thumbs, u can take it apart yourself. Ill suggest using a lens brush for the task, or air from a can :)

It should be 100% sealed, otherwise it might be a defect. Small insects could crawl behind. Those tiny small black things that always appear in the summer before thunder :-S We got those in denmark, crawling behind glass in pictureframes, but shouldnt be possible in a LCD screen.

Good luck

Well, the actual LCD screen is no doubt sealed, but people are getting dust behind the glass front, which isn't sealed in any real way to avoid this kind of thing.

I think I have a piece of dust stuck down the back of mine. I thought it was a stuck pixel, but it changes colour when I move from side to side (Which is what dust does, and not stuck pixels... since the default background for tiger stuck one)

Phone Apple support and complain or take it to an Apple store and get them to fix it under warranty.

i have phone apple support......not only did they not help me with the problem ......they couldn't even assure me that it would be coverd.

I am going to call a mac store but like i said...am i going to have to get it cleaned every 2 months......

Basicly what i want to know is if anyone had this problem and got it taken care of....and was it coverd.

I don't even want to bother taking the screen out myself....thats just as bad as taking it to the mac store every 2 months

I bought a mac because i didn't want to deal with ********.

Dissapointing really, i have no intentions on picking my brand new machine apart, which i havent got yet, because it needs cleaning :-S There should be rubber/foam seals, but that might result in condense water instead?

Well, im hoping for the best.

Just for an update on this situation.....

I took my imac to a mac store. They told be although there was dirt in my imac there seemed to be no problem with my imac and that my imac wasen't defected or bunk.

They cleaned it out and then tryed to tell me that "this isn't normally coverd under warranty.....as if i had something to do with dust getting inside my computer which i don't even have the tools to take apart if i even, for some screwed up reason felt like opening it up and chucking a pile of dirt inside of it.

I refused to pay and they eventually put it under my warranty.

I got my mac home and although it was cleaner they did a piss poor job of cleaning the screen...i could still faintly see dirty smeers on it...but whatever...i figured...good enough....im going to buy a new computer in a year anyways.

Its been about a month and a half since i took it in and its **** dirty again.

All I have to say is..... what the hell?

What tools? All you need is a suction cup, the rag you got with your computer, deionized or distilled water, and that's it. I recommend you get a can of compressed air for good measure too. Make sure you look at the glass under light to make sure there are no streaks or particles left. If there is, just take it off again and fix it. You aren't really taking your computer apart at all just removing the glass that stays on by magnetism. Your internal components are never revealed.

I just cleaned under my screen last week because in the first week of having the computer in August tap water got behind the glass and left mineral deposits on it. It is now clean. :)

I had my iMac for service and got it back today but then the dirt is everywhere in my iMac screen FFS...... so I called them and he said it is impossible to clean everything inside.

But I demand him to clean it for me so will report it back

I thought I needed an exorcist

I own two imacs, one 20" and a 24" (both white models, late 2006, early 2007). First I had apple assistance to replace three times (3!!!) the display on the 20 incher, because of stains appearing in the left corners of the screen, now it's the turn of the 24", which displays stains in the upper central part of the screen. I don't know if it's only bad luck but I'm quite convinced that it has to do with the:mad: quality of the sealing in the imac displays (it's dirt sneaking inside the display, I guess). Fortunately I have apple care, so there will be no extra costs. But, it's incredible how this can happen so often. They should do something to enhance their quality control.

What does that say about the air in your room? Are you smoking or something else? That will get in there and stain things.

What are you talking about? I don't smoke and besides that, I have other computers in the same room that don't have the same problems (an older imac and a ibook).

I've just seen that others had a problem with smoke. I'm not sure what is causing yours. You'll notice that the iMac's glass can be removed with a suction cup. It isn't quite as sealed as a vast majority of other monitors.

Read carefully my previous post. My imacs are late 2006, early 2007, the WHITE kind! They dont have protective glass, the display is directly exposed to the outside and they are very difficult to disassemble.

LOL! I got one of those "small black things" crawling around my screen right now!

It looked so natural, I'd been watching it for a while before I realized 'Hey, there's a f*cking bug crawling around behind the glass of my iMac!'

I observed it for a long while, as it wandered around, my eye about one inch from the glass, but I couldn't detect any hint of artificialty, thinking 'if this is a 'malicious virus', then Applers can be proud : this the most elegant culture-jam I have ever seen'.

Then I thought 'this can't be a graphic, it's only about 2 pixels wide, but it's not only got a distinctly egg-shaped body, it's also got jointed, tapering legs and feelers; it's got a subtle red-brown color which, I bet, can't even be displayed on LCD; and its motion and behavior are just too f*cking natural!'

But I couldn't convince myself it wasn't a virus, so I googled "tiny mac bug behind glass screen", and up came this MacRumors forum entry!

LOL!

Fraid not. I shipped my display by air and what was once a perfect display now has a few dust bunnies behind the glass. :(

Dirt or Mura

I may have the same issue with my 24inch Mac I bought last year. I thought it could be caused by Mura, but perhaps it's dirt. Either way, the company I am going to go to will fix it and is confident that Mac will cover it under my hardware warranty as the screen should not allow dust to settle between the glass and LCD pane. Anyone else with this issue? please check out this thread: https://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=5377076&posted=1#post5377076
There was someone who posted something related to what I saw on my screen.
Does dust cause Mura-like effect? I also have this weird spotlight shining down from the camera hole. Looks like someone is shining a flashlight from top of my computer downward.

I say call apple care tell them about some problems you've heard about on other imacs and ask them to exchange it for you via mail.
