Hello,

I have macbook pro late 2011 running on high sierra. I followed the below step to disable autoboot but it is not working.

I could see the AutoBoot value as %00 when I run nvram -p command.

This started happening when I removed the damaged battery and now running it without battery. New battery no more available for my macbook.

As soon as I plug in the macbook to power it boots up even without lifting the lid and pressing the power button.

yes, but only if your mbp is intel.
enter this command into terminal:
sudo nvram AutoBoot=%00
put your password and it wont start again.
have to press power to start it.

it doesn’t work on m series macs, unfortunatelly.

"Autoboot" is not what you are describing.
Autoboot is the feature used when the laptop automatically boots when the lid is opened.
The feature, as well as the command, is not supported on Mac portables before 2016 models
So, it is too new for your 2011 MBPro

The boot that you describe is a normal result when there is no battery installed in a Mac laptop - that is, your laptop boots when the magsafe power adapter is plugged in. Your laptop will boot when no battery is installed.
You should be able to shut your MacBook Pro off then. Just remember to leave the power adapter connected then.
If you disconnect the charger, then plug it in again, your laptop will boot at that time.
Without a battery, your Mac laptop no longer functions properly as a portable.

You can get a replacement battery from a variety of sources, such as Amazon.
It simply won't be an Apple OEM battery, so you may not get same battery life that you used to get from an Apple OEM battery--but, a working battery will at least solve your power connection boot problem.
Such as:
13-inch https://www.amazon.com/CSEXCEL-6000mAh-A1322-Replacement-Battery/dp/B0CRKPK5N1
15-inch https://www.amazon.com/Fancy-Buying-A1382-Battery-MacBook/dp/B0BFQXGY72
or 17-inch https://www.amazon.com/Tinkerpal-Compatible-Notebook-020-7149-020-7149-A10/dp/B0BVLXPCD5
(I recognize that third-party replacement batteries can often be a "crapshoot"--I have been lucky, so far. I have never purchased a bad battery, although a few have not lasted as long as I would like.
I wish you luck in finding a good battery that will take care of your power problem, and allow your laptop to work normally as a portable.
