disable "reopen windows when logging back in"

Anyone out there figured out how to permanently uncheck the "reopen windows when logging back in" option when shutting down, or restarting Lion?

I hate it. when i shutdown my macbook pro, i do it because i want a fresh boot the next time i use it, and hate having to 'uncheck' this option every time i restart or shutdown!!!
 
No solution as of yet. Those who want this feature to be disabled or have the user selection remembered will have to wait and see if Apple changes this in an update.

It is a bug in the GM version.

This one's annoying me too, I usually shut down leaving applications open knowing that they will quit themselves automatically and not come on next time.

Hope someone comes up with a trick or hack to make that box unchecked, as having photoshop and dreamweaver launching at startup gets old quickly.

You're saying Apple intends for the state of the check box not to be remembered from re-boot to the next re-boot?
If not a bug a bad feature. I remember it well not working in any DP version.

I've got a feeling its working just as Apple intended, they seem to really want to push this Resume tripe down our throats.

Another unrelated "feature" thats been driving me crazy is that my mac seems to be banned from sleeping if I have Internet Sharing turned on!

Unfortunately it's one of the growing list of things tempting me back to Snow Leopard...

- This
- No sleep with network sharing on
- Safari 5.1 no easy manual cookie control
- no 4 finger "show desktop" gesture - the replacement gesture is awkward
- no expose ALL windows
- removal of separate safari download window
- hiding of Library folder - easily fixed but still annoying
- no rosetta - i have no PPC apps but 1 intel app I use (FFmpegX) has a minor old PPC component which causes problems now.
- the way "Arrange icons by" has become "clean up by" and changed the way it behaves.

apart from thats its great.

edit, 1 more...

- CMD + SHIFT + L in safari is no longer search text on google, but now show the reading list thing - took ages to change the commands around on that one to get the search back.

There is always a reason to stay in the past if you look close enough. For most Lion will work well. Some will have problems. What OS launch had zero complaints or problems? You can't release a bug free OS or please everybody 100% of the time.

I'm done with Lion, just gone back to Snow Leopard, not going to try it again until I have to buy a new Mac.

The worst thing was it was perfectly stable, everything that's annoyed me has been an intended feature working how it's supposed to.

I'm also going back to Snow Leopard for the very same reasons.
 
I'm seriously considering dumping Lion, it's not an improvement over SL most of the "features" are actually annoyances, and it looks terrible.
Not pleased at all.
I'm in complete agreement with N10248

I'm back to Snow Leopard after last week's LION torture.

Maybe at some point when Apple lets you set preferences in Lion
to make it more like SL - I will go back. I'm HAPPY with Snow Leopard.
 
I'm not going back to SL, but neither am I impressed with Lion. Some new features are poorly implemented and others are just not well thought out or particularly useful, and then there's all the bugs, features that have been removed, and so on. I was expecting a much more polished release than this from Apple. Maybe Lion will be better when it's finished.
