ugggg. I dropped my air today! I am so careful, and the thing was pristine until this morning. Anyway, I have a small dent on the upper right corner. Nothing is damaged, just the dent.

So I want to pass this on now to one of my kids and get another, but do you think that the New MBA will be out soon?
I hate to admit it, but the same thing happened with me and the iphone. I passed it on to my husband, bought another one--- then lo and behold the G3 came out. So I have an iphone in my drawer I don't even use....

Advice?

I really want to say 'consider a charity donation'. If you must buy a new one, what the hell, wait as long as you can, then buy the upgrade. Does the dent matter?

I think you have OCD and are selfish. You pass damaged things to your family, making them use it and use that as an excuse to buy another for yourself. And... in the 2 months or so before the 3G (NOT G3, I thought you meant the PPC processor) was announced (NOT released) there were countless rumors. All you had to do was search iphone. That was June, it came out 1 month later. "If it ain't broke, then don't fix it" It still works... and if you just care about how it looks, then you shouldn't buy a laptop. A desktop can't be dropped...

Yes she is soooo selfish. I can't believe someone would be so cruel as to pass on a working macbook air with a dent in it! If someone gave me a working macbook air with a dent, I would punch them in the face and tell them to give me one without a dent. Oh, and if they put a gun to my head and forced me to use it, I would use my judo master skills to disarm them and then punch them in the face.

Btw snow, you better pray I can't find you or you don't care what your face looks like. I mean, if you care about what your face looks like, you shouldn't be carrying it around. Make a statue of it out of granite to remember what it looks like, that will be harder for me to damage with my fists.

:D

Quick method for cheap used car, drive up park next to you, whack you with the door and wait for the dinged car to hit the market. :p

Whoa, breathe, hun. These are my kids. They don't care if they get my hand-me-downs. Neither does my husband. They just don't care about gadgets like I do. Calm down, hun, I didn't say YOU had to use it.

At least wait until Oct 14th to see what announcements come.

I doubt there will be a new MBA until January 2009, but you might as well wait 7 days.

Forget the dent. If it works, keep it and use it till a new one comes. I am assuming that looks matter more to you than money. :)

You need a better internal censor. My family gets all my computer hand me downs, they've never complained one bit. Go play outside for a while.

OP...I'd wait for as long as you possibly can, say a week. Then go get one if newer models come out.

I've dropped my MBP three times, putting dents in it twice. It looks like it's been used. If I were you, I'd be fine with it, unless it spontaneously combusted or started smelling like battery acid. Just be careful next time.

I think it's more of the fact that the moment something isn't in pristine condition you try and get rid of it. Wow, it has a dent, get over it, just use it instead of wasting more money on something that you already have.

It's fair enough giving it to your family, but I think it goes a bit far to consider an entire computer to not be good enough for you just because it has a dent....which the OP caused herself. I'd be more worried about being married to or being the kid of someone that seems to have a horrendous case of OCD. If she were my mom I'd have told her to GTFO and to deal with it herself.

If the computer still functions and does all the tasks you need it to do, then why replace it? Personally, cosmetic defect wouldn't be a good enough reason for me to shell out a crap load of money for something new. I don't know if that particular panel is removable, but mabey you could simply replace the panel if it bothers you that much?

I'm with the OP on this one. One dent would drive me nuts. It looks so new, except...... there is this dent. I say, drop it again. and again. It needs at least dents. Don't forget to scratch it too. Make sure you have a good story for each too. For instance: "OMG - that dent, that was the time I was running for the airport gate, and this kid dropped his ice-cream cone right in front of me.... I went one way, and my Air went the other way... hoo boy, that was a messy day!"

I have a new MBP.... don't want it dented.... but once its pristine condition is lost, I want it to gain some prestige by its history that it wears proudly. sigh. consumer consumption culture.....

Chill... so you're selfish as well. To OP: Just passing it down because of a dent? So if your shoe got a speck of dirt you'd buy another? Electronics is made to be used, not looked at. It has a function, it's not a Picasso down the Louvre museum, although the air does look like a work of art.

Either you're a rich who has loads of money to burn in this tumbling economy, or just have a extremely bad case of OCD. And please don't call me "hun"....

apparently, you're not that careful lol :cool:butterfingers.

if you want to buy another one, then go ahead. No need to start a thread asking if you should buy another one.

As for the question of whether new ones will be out in a week, there are plenty of threads on the forum speculating about this so you can search.

Since you're obviously wealthy enough to entertain the thought of buying another macbook air simply because the one you have now has a dent in it, i don't see why you need our opinions.

go buy it. ;)

Do whatever you want with it! It's your MBA, but I would suggest you immediately put one of those White Apple Stickers over the dent and then buy a nice acrylic case or skin (any color will do), and let one of the kids head off to the study and get to crackin' on his/her homework with a nice WiFi connection...:p

not to keep piling on but why not use the $$$ for you dented air replacement fund and buy some school supplies and donate them to a inner city school. You kid will see their mom doing something good and will get inspired. That'll be priceless.

Apparently so. Her family is her Salvation Army. Anyway, it's her family's money, and as non-sensical as her purchasing decisions are, she can do what she wants with it.

Got any slightly ripped $100 bills you want to get rid of?

Choices are good:

Plan A:
Buy a hammer and cover it in dents. Hammered metal will be soooo totally, like "in" this fall/winter. Your friends will toast your avant-garde-ness.

Plan B:
Donate it to the "Will it Blend?" guy.

Plan C:
Hand it down ASAP, but adopt me first! (we can un-adopt later)

:)

...come on people...some people like the beauty of their laptops. They don't like to see dents or scratches on them. I like the beauty of my Air as well. I will be upset to see a dent on it but I might not replace it b/c of a dent. However, I like my car more. I will trade in my car as soon as possible after an accident because I hate re-paint car.
