Disgusted with new purchase

OK, so I bought a Macbook.


All's great for an hour. I installed my mighty mouse software and restart the PC. Then, I play around.... I pop in my iWork dvd to install it. In the middle of the install, the PC says that I need to restart the PC by touching the power button. I could tell that this was weird. So, when I go to turn it back on, I can hear fans, but no illuminated apple or display.


This is the FIRST DAY.... and it was a birthday gift.


I hope to God there is a fix.... because I have always thought of Apple as a top notch company. I don't want their image to be tarnished in my mind.

Your first problem is you are calling it a PC. Apple Mac's have empathy. PC's have apathy. So by calling it a PC you are enabling an emotional response. That is to shut down. Yell and scream and not come out of its dark room for several hours.

Seriously call applecare. Brand new Mac = call applecare.

Well like i said it will never respond. You have to talk to it in a caring soothing voice. Tell it how much you love it. Tell it how much it means to you. Maybe even get it a bowl of ice-cream. Mine likes Vanilla.

What bugs me is that you don't need to install the software for OS X if you've gotten all the updates.

Try booting off of your OS X DVD's.

I had a feeling you botched a firmware update but it looks more like a kernel panic.

The thing is is that I can't even get the screen to turn on. I can hear fans whirring softly, and the white light in the front is on. However, there is a disc inside the system which won't eject.

It boggles me what you to do kernel panic the machine into this state. You didn't even do anything strange at all.

Don't over-react. You have a great machine... You've had a kernal panic, the disc won't eject. Try turning the Mac off, leave it for five minutes, then restart it holding the mouse button down through the whole process. See if that ejects the disc.

It is a DOA, it died on the first day -- it happens.

You should be able to get it declared a DOA and swapped for a new one, of course if it is a BTO machine -- the problem is a little stickier with build time.

If you expect every product to be perfect EVERYTIME- I would give up on purchasing things all together. Heaven forbid you have to get it fixed

Hopefully, there is a way that I can just get a brand new one in-store. I really don't want to go through the RMA process after I've owned this laptop for only about 10 hours.

Scream, complain, and be naughty and they will keep sending you bad machines year after year.

Ask some of the lucky people on here who always get bad machines and have to swap/repair them "a lot" before they get working machines.

But the stability of these machines is great compared to the OS 7-9 days where extensions/control panels, etc. caused great problems. And doing more than 1 thing at a time crashed the machine.

your computer was prolly made by won fet ho, a chinese assembly worker. Just exchange it at the store and while youre there, use big hand motions and speak louder than you usually would. In this way you will: a) get your exchange, b) belittle the self-inflated holier-than-thou apple reps, and c) amuse me in the process. Let me know what happens.

This guy speaks the truth. It is much like a girlfriend. every now and then they have a headache ( kernel panic). Treat it like it is the most special thing in the universe. Guess what soon the headache will be wild sexual abandon ( your MacBook will work).
