Not magically. LOVE. :)

Most Likely if you remove the battery, replace battery, restart. could work. Or call applecare. They will run through process to see if the machine is DOA. Listen and follow there instructions carefully.

Don't over-react.

I was going to say the same thing after reading the very first post.

Sometimes you just buy a product that doesn't work. If this ruins your image of Apple, then ok. I just think that it's a bit unrealistic to expect that a company makes products that never break down. They're just like every other company, really. They still get computer components from all the regular sources.

Should I reseat it myself, or should I bring it to an Apple store? I don't want to ruin my warranty.

Don't try and open it or anything, it's brand new, just get a replacement.
However, you might just try to unplug it, take out the battery, and press and hold the power button for 5 seconds. This will reset your PMU. Re-insert the battery, and try to restart it. It'll probably not work, but it's worth a shot.
Good luck.

who's a troll, the guy with 47 posts?!? not really. The guy had problems with a brand new mac, he has a right to come and talk about it.

OP, if you haven't already- call applecare!!

What the hell do the number of posts have anything to do with trolls?

Ok, I got a new macbook! It's an awesome machine, and I couldn't be happier with either the quality of the Macbook or the customer service I received. :D

No, I know they're rock solid. I've always loved them. It just sucked to get a DOA on a brand new notebook ;)

apple should at least give u a small gift, maybe in the form of an itunes card or coupon, to apologize for the inconvenience. that might not be music to the cfo's ear but it would be stupendous service.

They could also give you a free car and a trip to paris :D. Or how about letting apple provide great products at a great price and give them a break when they make a mistake every once in a while.

OK, so I bought a Macbook.

All's great for an hour. I installed my mighty mouse software and restart the PC. Then, I play around.... I pop in my iWork dvd to install it. In the middle of the install, the PC says that I need to restart the PC by touching the power button. I could tell that this was weird. So, when I go to turn it back on, I can hear fans, but no illuminated apple or display.

This is the FIRST DAY.... and it was a birthday gift.

I hope to God there is a fix.... because I have always thought of Apple as a top notch company. I don't want their image to be tarnished in my mind.

I had a similar problem, but at least you got farther than I did. I only made it after the inital set up part and died when I got to the main screen...I spoke with technical support several times and they deemed it DOA. I was really disappointed since it was my first Mac and it died on me within the first hour.

Just call them and ask them about their DOA policy. I had to ask about the policy, prior to asking, they kept trying to get me to go to a local store (not an offical Apple one, but an authorized service provider). I didn't want to get a new machine fixed because then it wouldn't be 'new'. Plus I called the store, and they said since it was a hardware problem (kernal panic) I'd have to send it back anyway.

I'm pretty sure your HD just failed. That's what happenes when an HD dies. I remember i kicked over my old pc and th fans game on softly and started doing what your laptop did. Just go to applecare, you can't ix it yourself. They should give youa brand new machine.

Should we have a funeral for the dead HDD?

sounds an awful lot like a logic board issue, it'll sound like it's doing something but will not boot or show visuals on the display. that's what your warranty is for. call applecare - they arrange for shipping, you send it back and get a brand new one. then you'll be smiling.

with all the 3rd party parts in computers now, it's inevitable that you'll occasionally get a lemon.

good luck

It took this long? They should have given you $150.00CAD or maybe a free iPod. Just replace the d*** thing Apple- and don't take 5 years to do so.
