Disgusting £100 Price Hike on iPad Air today 18th October 2022! 🤬 but with no updates!!! I'm done with Apple. Before the online store closed it was £569. Now it's £669!!!

How can Apple justify this price hike on the iPad Air? when it hasn't even received any updates today!

There’s also been huge price increases across the whole iPad lineup. 9th Gen iPad is £369 (up from £319), new iPad is £499, Mini is £569 (up from £479), Air is £669 (up from £569), 11-inch Pro is £899 (up from £749), 12.9 inch Pro is £1249 (up from £999)

WTF?!

Its a an absolute disgrace from Apple to increase the price of older products in this way. Well I've got my iPad air 3 and 4, so will just use these for years and years. But at least we got third party retailers like Amazon Uk who should price the older ipads as they were before hopefully.

I can understand a small price increase due to inflation, but £100 is absolutely insane. Pure corporate greed.

John Lewis, Amazon etc etc have not changed their prices, so don't shop at the Apple UK website people!

Amazon/John Lewis/Currys/etc. will update their prices very soon so jump in quick if you want to take advantage.

Maybe you pretend not to understand. GBP value dropped 20% against USD. Prices increase by the same amount.
What on older products that were priced £100 cheaper this morning!. Honestly JPack I know you love Apple, and treat their income as though its your own, but come on this is ridiculous, there is no defending this. If they want to increase the price on new products fine, but not older products.

This is how economy works. Actually this happens all the time, just at slower rate. With current rate of inflation everything will get more expensive much faster and consumer notices that right away. Think of it this way. The product did get more expensive. Money just lost some of its value really fast so they had to draw new numbers on the price tag quick.

Does it suck for us consumers? Yes! Because our salaries didn’t increase the same. Can Apple as a company not do this. No, because they need to remain profitable. It’s a business.

Can you not buy their products. Yes!

It's the strong dollar. The Air didn't get a price increase in the US. it was $599 before and after.

As much as I am angry about the rises, and 25% seems huge and unjustified overnight, here are the numbers:

  • 5th Gen 12.9" Pro was announced in April 2021 for £999. Removing VAT (sales tax) and changing to dollars at that time was $1161, which is $62 more than the US price.

  • 6th Gen 12.9" Pro was announced today for £1249. Removing VAT and exchanging at today's rates gets you $1177, which is $78 more than the US price.

It's closer than it looks, and there is some volatility in the pound still.

A few price increases in Canada too, though thankfully by lower amounts:

iPad 9th gen — $429-$449
iPad 10th gen - $599
iPad Mini - $649 - $679
iPad Air 5th gen - $749 - $799
iPad Pro 6th gen - $999-$1099 (11”)
$1399-$1499 (12.9”)

I don’t own a single share of Apple. This is simply Commerce 101 in action. Why shouldn’t the price of older products increase? Apple still has to pay engineers in Cupertino in USD and assembly workers in Chengdu in RMB. The value of GBP has dropped against all global currencies.

Apple can eat some inflation on older products but not inflation plus a currency slide.

Yes they can, they have BILLIONS in the bank. Will they? Absolutely not, but lets not pretend they couldn’t if they wanted to.

Yet! They will though.

Hence why I've snapped up an Apple Pencil to save myself almost £30 on Apple's new prices (£112 on Amazon instead of yesterdays £119 RRP, which today is now £139!

Yes they could indeed, and with the pattern that's emerging here, my fellow Brits, buy whatever Mac you want now as when the new Macbook Pros get announced, all Macs across the board will get an increase.

So the MB Air M2 is now £1,299, but the moment they announce the new M2 Pro Macbooks, expect the MB Air M2 to increase by £100 immediately.

Heads Up .. I was waiting for the iPad Pro’s to come out (mine is 2 years old) .. I’ve decided the iPad Air is enough. Apples price is horrible but John Lewis had the one I wanted for £160 less! .. not sure how long until they realise but you get a 2 year guarantee with John Lewis also!

I’ve ordered 256GB Cellular so am paying £869 (Apple was £1029!)

With Apple it's like this and it always will be. The trick is to try to **** them anyway (sorry for the expression but it was needed since the foul play of Apple increasing prices of OLD devices). 😂

Just purchased the iPad (9 gen) online for €325 (I'm sure it will last just for today at this price) instead of €429 directly from Apple.com. I'm going to sold my used iPad (5 gen) lately for around €250-300 with a actual spending of ~€25-75 + the Smart Cover for the new 9 gen (since I'll keep my Apple Pencil 1 gen).

Future iPads will starts from €500, we know that now, so It was useless for Me to wait another year. I would have sold my iPad (5 gen) for €100 instead of €250-300 of now.

Be smart and witty

The exchange rate today is £1 = $1.13 which means if you take the American price ($599), convert it to Sterling and add 20% VAT it works out at £636. There may also be other import duties to add as we don’t have a free trade agreement with the USA.
Less than a month ago the exchange rate was down to $1.03 to the Pound which would have worked out at £698 inc VAT while the base Air was on sale at only £569. Apple are adding a bit of leeway into the UK selling price as the financial situation here is still volatile.
It’s rubbish for us but it’s all down to the poor exchange rate. If the situation does stabilise and the exchange rate improves I would expect Apple to bring the prices down to match as they have done in the past.
