Yes. It's not that bad...
Depends on how often you need to plug things in and out.
It would be a minor problem for me as my desk can be raised and lowered. 😁
I probably won't mount under the desk anyway.

Actually it is scaled for "looks like 1440p". I use the Dock in its minimum size, with magnification effect. That's why you think it's small. 😃

The 8K HDMI Cable was a suggestion under this thread and will advise you to buy one, the shortest as possible. I tried the USB-C output, using multiple cables, USB-C - Display Port, HDMI-HDMI, USB-C - HDMI, multiples dongles and whatever. The only thing that worked solid rock was that 8K cable. And I mean seriously: buy it as soon as possible.

The Display does wake from sleep with no issues.
Why do you have it scaled for "looks like 1440p"? Why not run it at full 4K?

Aha, yeah, the dock looks tiny 😅 You can just hide it as well ;)

Why as short as possible? I found one on sale at a local store with 0,5 meter cable. Is that short enough?

Regardless, thanks for the tip, really! I've been nervous about this with waking up the display and flicker, so it feels good to know what to do from the start. 👍 I assume Windows and other devices work flawlessly regardless of the cable with any display. 😁 So there I don't have to think about it. If I want to try USB-C, a cable is usually included anyway.

I'm aware of the problems with the M1 Mac but it doesn't feel as bad if there are solutions and the Mac mini is quite cheap (seen good price drops too). Also cheaper to upgrade in the future than if I had chosen the iMac (which I have considered).
I'm about to buy a Mac Mini. I considered an iMac but I've been using a Mac Mini for a few years and as you said it's cheaper to upgrade.

I have an M1 Mac mini (16GB, 8/8) and it's connected to: (info from System Information app)
  • USB-C: LG UltraFine 5K 27MD5KLB, 5760 x 3240, UI Looks like: 2880 x 1620 @ 60.00Hz ("More Space" in System Prefs > Displays). Connected via the USB-C cable that came with it.
  • HDMI: LG 27UL850 27" IPS 4K UHD: 5120x2880 (5K/UHD+), UI Looks like: 2560 x 1440 @ 60.00Hz (Option between "Default" and "More Space" in System Prefs > Displays). Connected via some random HDMI cable I've had for ten years.
No slowdowns, no issues with them not displaying when the Mac is switched on, etc. Some of the reports of M1 Macs having issues with external displays must be taken with a pinch of salt if the person telling you there are issues hasn't encountered them themselves.

Can an older 2009 Mac Mini be connected to a 4K monitor. I'll be getting a new Mac Mini but I still need be able to use my older 2009 Mac Mini for certain programs. I plan on hooking both Macs to a new 4K monitor.

It would be too much stress for the very weak iGPU inside the mini 2009 to handle 4k resolution, even 2k is a little bit over the edge. Better stick with 1080p.

I am thinking about a new mini, but was wondering about the usb a problem. I would buy a wired keyboard and mouse, most likely usb a. I would also use wired Ethernet. I don’t really care about Bluetooth for this installation. Are there any issues that would affect performance in this case.

Resolutions offered for Dell 27 Ultrasharp 4k monitors on my mini:

1,152 x 648
1,504 x 846
1,920 x 1,080
2,560 x 1,440
3,008 x 1,692
3,840 x 2,160

I run it at native 4k during the day and then the next lowest resolution the rest of the time.

Is there an HD(1920 x 1080) monitor that the Mac Mini works on?

There are but they won't look very pretty.

The issue is that subpixel antialiasing is not available from Big Sur onwards. Apple no longer optimizes MacOS for low res monitors.

I'm not quite sure what involves but the gist is that my 20" Dell monitor (1080p) that looked perfectly fine on my 2012 Mini looked blurry on my 2020 M1 Mini.

I have a 20 inch 1,600 x 1,200 monitor that I haven't used in a long time and it may be worth hooking it up to see how it looks. My guess is that it wouldn't look very good as I've been using high resolution monitors for about 10 years now. The old monitor has been on the floor in the basement for a long time.

I mis-remembered.

That 20" Dell is 1600x900... not quite 1080p.

Still, it looks blurry on a MM M1 but looks fine on a MM 2012.

The subpixel antialiasing is not available in Big Sur or after Big Sur?

I have the MacMini M1 with an Apple Thunderbolt 27 display, about 10 years old, looks amazing and has a hub and sound is fantastic.
To the HDMI port I have an old Apple Display 20" looks great also.

Which Apple Display 20" do you have? Is it an ADC display?

The Apple Thunderbolt 27 Display and the Apple Display 20" don't look blurry?
