The screens are only "washed out" if you don't calibrate them, because the default settings are just horrible. Yes, it's a TNT panel and therefore there's a difference in the colours if you move your head up and down, but personally I have a chair in front of my computer desk rather than a space hopper so I don't notice that when I'm sat using the machine.

My iMac has no unexpected shutdowns, no strange noises, no dead pixels and no static when using the headphone socket.

So whilst the choice of screen by Apple wasn't the best, my iMac works perfectly as intended by those that designed it. I'm very happy with it :)

In the numbers Apple are manufacturing there will be some duds, but that's a long way from a design defect as some here are screaming about.

Is there a "guide" or best way to detect if an iMac (20" or 24") has the gradiant issue? Also, what is the best way to calibrate the monitor? Hardware or (preferably free) software?

Warranty? = No problems found ... I have never had any trouble at all, ever, with a warranty question from Apple = unless the device was not actually made by Apple, of course.

No worry, mate ...

Thanks allot :)

Thanks for the reply guys.

Thanks

You'd have to be staunch to get a replacment computer for one dead pixel (given it would be exlcuded in the replacment policy), but other faults, just keep pestering them to they do something about it.

Odds are you won't have any problems though.

Actually, if brand new and you spotted the bad pizel right away, there would be no problem getting it replaced ... Same, same with brand name monitors for your mini-Mac. If your bad pixel doesn't show up until months or years later, well ...

People who have problems tend to post about it. Those who are happy stay quiet.

I'll rectify that by saying my 20" machine has been flawless since August 9th!

Agreed, I got over the slightly washed out screen. After a color calibration, the thing looks mint!
