iPad Glass is optical quality and difficult to scratch. Typically more difficult to scratch than the tempered glass

Still you do get fine, Hairline Scratches on the iPad right ? I have got it on my earlier iPads where I have not used any Tempered Glass or Protective Glass even though I religiously use all my iPads with Apple Smart Cover. I still get it. And I use my iPads in the best possible manner. No Manhandling at all.

with the additional anti reflective and oleophopic characteristics that will no longer be in effect under a tempered glass.

That’s an interesting angle that I hadn’t considered. The latest iPads have fantastic anti-glare qualities which make using them outside in bright conditions perfectly viable. Earlier iPads were very hard to use outdoors.

So you are saying Anti-Reflectivity and Olephobic Coating will be gone with Tempered Glass ? But what If I don't use my iPad outdoors then the Anti-Reflectivity hardly matter to me isnt it ?

As much as you're struggling with this, I still think your best bet is to get a screen protector and try it out. It is not an irreversible decision as you can readily remove it without any damage or cleanup issues.

I get your point but it is just that I am a little bit too touchy about my device :) and want to be very perfect with my decision :)

Glare is caused by light bouncing around inside the screen. The earlier models had an air gap in them, the latest are laminated. I honestly don’t know if a glued layer would cause this to happen or not.

Sure, if you never use a feature it’s absence won’t impact you.

Yes, I do occasionally get hairline scratches on my iPad. Fortunately, my currently iPad ( almost a year old ) has no scratches ( no tempered glass, no screen protector ). I live near the beach, lots of sand, so that is pretty impressive to me.

Tempered glass seems to scratch more easily. To me it seems to make the iPad difficult to read in various lighting conditions very quickly. Plastic screen protectors are the worse.

Well, yes. The tempered glass becomes the reflector and the olephobic is under the tempered glass, so pretty useless.

Using the iPad in a dark environment will also hide hairline scratches.

The tempered glass usually has its own oleophobic coating. I actually find it more effective at reducing fingerprint haze compared to the Apple applied coating on the iPads with laminated display.

Which tempered glass do you use?
I'm intrigued by its superior oleophobic coating!

Omoton $10 for a 3-pack, I think?

It seems to me the anti-reflective coating reduces the effectiveness of the oleophobic coating. Comparing my iPad Pro 9.7, Pro 10.5, Air 3 with laminated display and anti-reflective coating to the basic iPads and OG Air with non-laminated display and no anti-reflective coating, the basic iPads/OG Air seem far more resistant to fingerprints.

If you do get one just clean the heck out of it and find a room with no airflow. This is a big glass your covering and you would be surprised at what’s just floating around In the air. Good luck.

Thank you! Ordered a two pack for the iPad11.

I recently purchased the iPad Pro 11” to replace my iPad 10.5” and the first thing I did before setting it up was put on a screen protector. I got the keyboard folio case to go with it, too. Having the screen protector gave me a piece of mind when I have the case closed over the iPad. I can barely tell I even have the screen protector on. It doesn’t make my iPad experience any less than it would if I didn’t have one on. It doesn’t diminish the quality of the screen in any way and the touch works perfectly fine as it should. It all depends on the type you buy.

In the end, the decision is up to you as it is your iPad and you’re going to be the one using it. I got one because I always put screen protectors on my devices because I want to prevent scratches and it just makes me feel better.

I just bought an iPad Pro 11 and didn’t put on a screen protector for about a week and for me it was stressful. I kept it in a smart case but I was always worried it would get one of the famous “hairline” scratches (sound familiar?). I have a personality type that would worry about my iPads screen, so for me a screen protector is a no-brainer. I just had one installed today and I instantly felt relived. Look, there was a reason Apple was looking in to buying a sapphire crystal manufacturing company a couple of years ago. Until a company can manufacture sapphire crystals to apples liking for iPads and iPhones I will always use a screen protector.

Good reason for a protector - it scratched a big itch for you. I've been happy with mine for the ease of keeping it clean.
