Do I REALLY need this to jailbreak my 3GS

I had the problem of downloading this file and only getting a zip file when using chrome or I.E, even renaming IPSW didn't work. The problem was solved when i downloaded from firefox, it downloaded the file that has the box icon.

Yep...each browser handles the download differently. I had to do the same a couple of times before I realized this is what is happening.

i didn't know about the need for these two files and already jailbroke my 3gs. can i still go thru the process and capture these two files, after the jailbreak? or is this done on a virgin iphone only?

You'll have to go through the restore process to get to those files, and chances are you may have to jailbreak. But it's definitely not too late to grab them.

so the process, as i understand it currently, is to do a full restore, go thru this process to acquire these two files, and re-jailbreak, correct?

to restore my jailbroken phone, do i just go to itunes and click restore? or do i need to do something different, like enter recovery mode or something. this is my first iphone so i'm still new to the process. thanks
