In the above test the Samsung T5 (256GB) was faster connected via the OWC (four port TB4) hub, than connected direct to my M1 MBA.

In the test of my Crucial X6 (4TB) below it is the other way round. The X6 is faster when connected direct to the M1 than via the hub.

I have bouts of doing this testing and end up getting confused trying to see patterns and consistency. For me all my drives are plenty fast enough direct or via the OWC and differences are not noticeable without measurement.

I guess if I was seeing down to 180MB/s I would be concerned.

Please rerun the test without the "23.7" LG Ultrafine" attached. the use of TB3 displays appears to affect the bus performance.

My M1 pro MacBook has lost functionality in it's USB-C port nearest the screen, it ONLY functions as a power passthrough , it will not charge or accept any data transfer back or forth.

Yes, in the past I have seen that having the LG screen attached in the other port has an effect, surprisingly, as I believe on M1 Macs each port has its own TB bus.

I have reported on this in the past and will see if I can find. This was the thread. The difference was within what I describe as "plenty fast enough", but repeatable, not just scatter.

Quite busy at the moment but will try and do a back-to-back with and without the LG on the other port.

anyone seeing any improvements with the new Macbook Pros M1 Pro and M Max, recently released. I’m seeing marginal improvements but not full speeds like on my intel Macbook Pro.

anyone found a solution to get top speeds on SSD or attached drives?
