Ipad Mini Retina cases

G'day from down under to every one.

I have tested at least 10 different cases, and all fit perfect.

I quite understand that 0.3ml tolerance can be crucial in the fitting form factor.

*Speck folio fits perfect.

*Lifeproof Free Fits perfect.

*Lifeproof Nuud fits perfect.

*Melko Folio leather fits Perfect.

*Otterbox Defender Fits perfect.

*Tested other low end cases such as TPU and fit also good.

Only concern would be the second microphone, I have tested it inside the Lifeproof Nuud case and seems to work good even second Mic.
Tested under water also for 1 hour. No leaks.

Happy New year guys

What is the use of the 2nd mic hole?

My Rocketfish Hard Case rear shell does NOT fit properly on the new iPad mini. It really is a hair too small. It snaps on to the new one, but barely. The corners always slip off when you're holding it. I love this Rocketfish rear shell (i use it along with the Smart Cover). I'm patiently waiting for an officially fitting rear shell to be released.

Some manufacturers are simply slapping the "compatible with the new iPad mini" on their listings. One manufacturer in particular recently had a sale on one of their iPad mini cases, also listed as compatible with the retina mini. After corresponding with them over email I was told that the cases fit, but "not as well", thus the reason for the sale. They also realized after I asked that the cases also had no hole for the second mic.

I sense there's a lot of assumption out there that all the original iPad mini cases will fit the new one, because the increase in thickness is indeed slight. But a lot of these cases are pretty precise in their measurements. And the increase is significant when it comes to this kind of stuff. That second mic hole is also an important factor to consider.

Is it purely for video conference?

Vaja libertto case discounted

The discounted case i got from Vaja for iPad mini fits the ipad mini retina like a glove except for the 2nd mic which is covered. I saved USD90 on the case.

I like the Speck Folio but I read the reviews on Amazon that said it doesn't fit:

After the failure of speck's fit folio, I found a fit with belkin's verve tab folio.

When looking at cases, check if there's a hard plastic shell. If so, it's less likely to accommodate the size difference. The belkin case utilizes cloth strips, reinforced by pleather to hold the corners; there is some flexibility that allows for both generation of minis.

This is when it's advantageous to go to a store. After the failure of the speck, I was able to discard other inappropriate choices because of their hard shell.

hey guys just thought i'd add my 2 cents.

I have managed to make an iPad mini retina fit into the a folio style case designed for the mini. On my first attempt the case just wouldn't fix into the plastic shell, the edges just wouldn't tuck into the case.

To fix this, I placed the plastic case over a hot surface over radiator to make the plastic very hot. I then put the iPad mini into the case while it was still hot and held forced it into position and held it firm unit the plastic cooled down.

bingo the case fit perfectly, although i have not tried to take it out since. Its worth trying if your are desperate, but be warned Its not my fault if you melt your case completely lol.

Apple claims that the cases are interchangeable between the retina and non retina just remember that the retina has an extra mic on the back so it may block the mic if you use an older case.
