While I know you're being a bit argumentative for the sake of being argumentative, I completely agree. It can't be both ways. Macs just can't "work" and require extended coverage. Either Apple believes its products are superior and hence don't need extended warranty shenanigans (which is what they are), or Apple doesn't have faith in its product line and advises you to pay up for what could happen.
Now of course the answer is that Apple wants you to believe the latter while practicing the former, as it is a company out for profit. However, that should tell the consumer who is out to save some money a few things.
