Mine turned on Automatically.. I'm on an iPhone 8.

I'm not too keen on it though. I don't like how it completely locks my iPhone. DNDWD makes me think I won't be disturbed by texts, emails, and calls while I'm driving. I feel I should still be able to pick a different radio station in Apple Music or Pandora though.

Oh well.

My 6S doesn’t work with motion/fitness enabled in system services and DNDWD set to automatic. I don’t have location service enabled for motion/fitness. I have enabled it to see if it starts working as designed...

Is there any Bluetooth to aux jack adapter that will identify as a car? I don't have a stereo with Bluetooth in my 2011 Rav4, and have been using a himbox bluetooth adapter, but I think ios considers it a headphone vs a car based on the fact the maps app will not remember where I parked. (I am out of town to test it in person in my car.)

FYI, here is what I am using currently, but does not appear compatible:

This works really well for me music and phone call wise. Even before iOS 11 it recognizes it as a car and maps/google maps would save my parking spot once disconnected. Also doesn't have that lag you experience with cheaper devices when watching video content.

2015....? Post make/model. Also, what is the name of the device that appears in the AirPlay menu? Sometimes if the Bluetooth device isn’t identified as a car, then the feature won’t work. Apple mentioned this in the developer keynote.

Regardless, report as a bug so they can address this.

a new feature should be added. Feature that includes a manual switch to select any bluetooth speaker as a car and save that for future connection to that device. Would be awesome.

Thanks. I just ordered one and will try it when it arrives to replace my not compatible himbox model. I would prefer it to have a USB end so I can use a multiport high speed charger, but I may try to see if a dual port cigarette adapter will fit in my car instead.

I ordered this with one day shipping, and received it an hour ago. Unfortunately this did not activate do not disturb while driving under Car Bluetooth setting and did not set up a parked car notification. It looks like it registered it as a normal Bluetooth headset, just like my existing himbox.

I will return to amazon for a refund.

Doesn’t work for me with an iPhone 8. Worked last week with an iPhone 8+ I had before I returned it.

If it helps, I am using an iPhone se with both these aux devices.

Automatic mode does work eventually as I drive, but I was hoping to get the car Bluetooth setting working for better results and less false positives (such as in the back of an airliner it activates during t/o, flight or landing in automatic mode.)

Retrofitting the stereo in the car doesn’t make financial sense for me, hopefully some other solution will come soon.

Now it’s working with my iPhone 8 on the auto setting. Seems to be hit or miss.

VERY hit or miss!

I drove about 3 hours today to Austin and decided to try it out. I don’t text and drive. May talk if it’s safe, but don’t hold it to my ear. Figured I’d try it out just to see how it works.

Turned on Maps, turned on DNDWD, and a few minutes later I’d get an email or text notification on screen. It had turned off. Frustrating to say the least. Sometimes regular DND would be on though. This is going by Control Center. I have it set to Manual.

I can definitely see the benefit of this though. I moved to a smaller town and live 8 minutes from work. iPhone doesn’t distract me during that time.

On I-35 between San Antonio and New Braunfels at 130pm, I did NOT want to be distracted and I did not want anyone else distracted either.

Mine turns on automatically if the screen is off / locked, but if I have Wave open, it won't automatically turn on.

Anyone else seeing this?

That has more to do with your DND settings. One option is to have DND active all the time, even when the screen is in use, and the other option is to have it enabled only when the screen is locked.

Mine is set to 'always' however still has the issue

Thats sad, mine still works as expected. Literally just went out for lunch and DnD activated + notified me my parking spot was saved.

I'm going to swap out iPhone 8s in an attempt to fix this issue. DND w/ Driving has been VERY hit or miss for me, and sometimes only comes on when I've already been driving for 5-10 minutes!

Not good.

Mine to, with an older iPhone SE. I think the feature is a bit buggy at this point I general with automatic mode, which is why I was hopeful the Bluetooth adapter above would have worked.

Hopefully the feature will get improved/refined over the next several iOS versions, allowing a Bluetooth device to be “fingerprinted” as belonging to a car vs as headphones.

Hi,

I have an iPhone 6+ with iOS 11.2. My normal DND silence is set to Always. I have a Parrot car kit.
My suspicion is, that DNDWD won't activate while the iPhone is unlocked. I start driving with my Waze navigation screen open and this will prevent my iPhone from locking. With setting DNDWD Automatically or Via BT, DNDWD won't activate. When I'm a passenger in a car and pull out my (locked) iPhone DNDWD indeed IS turned on. This feeds my suspicion.
I don't know if that's a bug or a feature....

With kind regards,
Rene de Vries

DND while driving does work if you have that Silence setting set to always. I use this with Maps almost every day. I used to have the Silence setting on “while phone is locked.” In that configuration I would see and get on screen notifications even though DND was still enabled.

Once I changed that to Always I no longer see any notifications and anyone that messages me gets that automatic response. I manually activate DND after initiating a route. When I used the Automatic setting I got very annoyed when I wasn’t the one driving so I turned that off. I do not use a Bluetooth connection or Waze so the implementation may be different.

I too have been having the same problem as others, and tried all the tips listed herein. But no joy.

Then, today, I installed iOS 11.2 and voilà, the problem is now resolved.

FWIW: DNDWD is set to “automatically”.

I purchased this a few days ago. It works! I have DND while driving set to Bluetooth, and it now activates right when I start my car and deactivates when I turn it off. My parked location also now shows in Apple Maps.

Thanks for the suggestion. This works perfectly for cars without built in BT.

Do y’all have any suggestions for someone that already has an aftermarket BT adaptor? I have the USA-Spec BT45-HON3 and DNDWD doesn’t work automatically with it.
