For some reason that made me think of Simpsons:

OK. That's a very obscure reference. I don't even remember it and I've watched since the Tracey Ullman show.

The bass in general is better in the Airpods than the Earpods. The reason is that the vents are bigger.

I bought mine primarily for exercise, and they've been great. I've exercised in mine every day since I got them on January 5. Most of it is has been running--a few days in the rain, including one evening last week in an unexpected downpour--while a few days have been lifting weights followed by very intense sweaty sessions on the elliptical. I sweat a fair amount, and I haven't had any issues or changes in sound quality. (The sound quality is slightly better, particularly the bass, than EarPods.)

Some people seem to be getting on fine with them for workouts though.

Interesting fact.... some people sweat lots with a low concentrate of salt, some people hardly sweat at all, but when they do it has a very high concentrate of salt. And all the other permutations in between of both.

You might just have a faulty pair or it could be your sweat has got in and damaged them?
Doubtful. People have washed their AirPods in the washer machine and not had problems. I've used mine at the gym and have yet to have a bass problem. I sweat like a horse.

What do I do!?!?? WHAT DO I DO!?!?!!?!

I've been wearing my Airpods for nearly a month sweating like a fool on my bike without issues! THE HORROR!

Mine's seen miles and miles of trail dirt, Grand Canyon snow, treadmill sweat, and light rain, no issues whatsoever. I do wipe them down gently (like on a t-shirt) after use though. Best wireless earbuds I've ever owned, and I've been through at least 6-8 bluetooth earbuds before AirPods.

I wonder if you got a defective set. :(

Whilst I'm not discounting the testimonials here about their resistance to sweat etc, I'll be interested to see if they still hold up after 6+ months of hard gym use.

Been using BT earphones since 2011, very regular gym goer and runner. I'd say my sweat output is average.

I've had several pairs of not-cheapo BT earphones go bad. Jaybird X2's, a couple of Jabras can't recall the exact name of, some Sony ones specifically for gym usage. All tended to fail after about 12-15 months.

The only ones I've got 2+ years life out of (and still working) are my Plantronic Backbeat Go2's, still going strong.

Basically, regardless of what those stress testing YouTube videos say, and people saying how great they work after 1 month (which is nothing), I thinks it's way too early judge.

Fortunately, the gym and running are the one and only place I prefer my BackBeat Go2's. Noise isolation is essential, as are the buttons on the wire, they beat double tapping or using the Watch (which I have and use). For all other applications I love my AirPods.

After two sweaty workouts the bass on these things have never been the same.
Going back.
Don't use these in the gym folks.
That's YOUR situation.

We don't all sweat equally, nor spend the same amount of time in the gym.

Mine sound the same after 15 months, with at least 3 hours in the gym per week.

I don't use mine in the gym simply because, as much as I love the AirPods, noise isolation is non-existent and do nothing to shield me from the mostly lousy music playing there.

Been using (grey) Samsung IconX 2018 in tandem with the AirPods for a couple of months now, they're very good and have different strengths to the AirPods - not as pop-in-and-play and the case is bigger, but they sound better to my ears (likely due to much better isolation) and are far more discreet to the eye. Had AirPods since day one, love them, but they still look goofy as $&$£, they even look naff* on beautiful people lol.

*personal taste, if you think they look great, fine! Not worth an argument. I don't like patterned socks, my dad loves them, we don't argue about it :)

Never have the issue mentioned above. I have been using the AirPods in the gym since the launch date more than a year ago and never find issue with the sweats. Fortunate for me and others who do not have this issue by using the AirPods since the launch date at the gym.

Actually, I'm the same as the OP - I sweat a lot at the gym - and I have a shaved head, so there's no hair to soak it up / slow it down.

The AirPods died on their first excursion to the gym - drying them out restored them - they're fine (this was a long time ago...when did they launch again?) :) So the PowerBeats2's continue their existence at the gym and the AirPods are everywhere else.

I fully expect that if I had a full head of hair again (where's that damn cure already?!) ;) the AirPods would have been fine at the gym.

I'm another one with no hair to soak up the sweat, but I've been using my AirPods since launch for indoor and outdoor workouts, in all weathers and don't have any issues at all with them. They're often under a wet or sweaty cap/buff as well, so they've been properly soaked multiple times!

As I've said before, I've gone through a number of pairs of Powerbeats which have died due to sweat/water ingress, so I'm pleasantly surprised by how resilient the AirPods have been.
