To be honest when I created the thread, the 1st Gen iPP just new and so powerful that there was no app to give the iPP a hard time. But of course the Promotion and better screens were good enough updates to upgrade my 1st gen to 2nd gen.
No point in you bashing a 2016 post in 2018.

I see in your signature that you use and own a lot of Apple Devices, so if you had little knowledge about how technology moves forward you would have not posted this kind of question ?? That do we need another iPad Pro ? What kind of question is that ? Its silly ! I am not bashing. I am saying it is common sense. And yes it is too old and a silly thread to be discussed for 3 years !!

Before I switched to iPP I was still using an iPad 2. When I purchased the iPP I was blown away by the power of it, and all benchmarks and reviews at the time also showed how powerful the processor was. Though the software side was not catching up. There were rumors about iOS 11 coming and bringing many new features, but i didn't think (and I was right in that) that no feature of iOS would push the iPP to its limits. So no, it is not common sense to not expect to upgrade with every new version of iPad. Every update the iPP is becoming more powerful, but what good would it do if you held an iPad in your hands that would be more powerful than a desktop PC, but still using the same iOS?? You are derailing my point while making no point.

To my knowledge Apple has never dished out a complete device ever which includes everything, there is always something that is to be desired which Apple perhaps deliberately or by coincidence holds it back, so that it can bring that in its next iteration be it Hardware or Software.

Reactions: Newtons Apple
OK, I understand that iPhone 7 (or 6SE or whatever) is coming out with an A10 chip and an A10X version of the chip is inevitable. But I feel that the 12.9" IPP I have already has a chip that is so underutilized (lack of apps, iOS 10 not really making use of the already fast A9X chip etc) that I don't think I will feel the need to upgrade for many years to come, just like I used my iPad 2 for so many years as many people did.
What would make current iPP owners switch to an iPP 2? What do people expect in iPP 2? What does Apple expect people to do really? Any ideas?

We have to have an upgrade as they will be getting rid of touch id.

I think the iPad Pro to iPad Pro 2 was a worthy upgrade. My iPad Pro 2 is insanely awesome and although I didn’t have the first one I feel as though there were enough add ons to justify it for non iPad Pro 1 owners.

I don’t think we need an iPad Pro 3 this year though. Yes, they will need to add Face ID but I don’t see another reason it would be necessary. For me Touch ID on my Pro is as important as on my phone, I returned my iPhone X because of Face ID. Unless there were some other major add ons I couldn’t see myself upgrading from my iPad Pro 2.

I even like to upgrade frequently but the iPad Pro 2 is just so powerful that I can’t see why I would need to. I think the 2-3 year cycle for iPads is better, like the iPad Air 2. There’s just no need to upgrade an iPad every year. My wife still happily uses our iPad Air 2 with no slowdown or any kind of issues.

I think you can skip buying it if you want, there are others who want the iPad Pro 2018 this year :)

I just don’t see it happening.

What ?? That could be the biggest scoop statement of this year ?? You don't see it happening ? Holy Smoke ! That could be your opinion man ! I mean, Apple is opening a first retail store in Seoul you should be jumping up and down and dying to see a new Apple device in the Apple Store in Seoul ! Instead you are giving such shocking statements !

That's an interesting line of thought.

You thought that the Pro 2 was a worthy upgrade even though you didn't own a Pro 1. But you think that a Pro 3 is unnecessary because the Pro 2 is so awesome... even though you don't know what a Pro 3 would be.

I own a Pro 1. I am a heavy, daily user of it. When the Pro 2 was released, I found nothing compelling in it to convince me to upgrade. Kinda like how you feel about your Pro 2. ;)

As difficult as it is for you to believe, it is possible that a hypothetical Pro 3 would be a worthy upgrade from a Pro 2... maybe not for your purposes, but there will be somebody else out there that thinks that.

I’m not saying at all that it won’t be. The original iPad Pro had a longer life cycle than 1 year and it was a first gen product, of course there were things that could be improved upon. I’m saying that after 12 months I don’t see what they could add besides an iterative upgrade plus Face ID. If they delay it to the fall, per the latest rumours I think it is better placed.

I’m also entirely in favour of it being a huge upgrade. If it’s a big upgrade then I will buy one day one, I WANT them to make it a big upgrade. It just doesn’t seem like it will be.

I’ve never said that it wouldn’t be a big upgrade for other people. I can only speak from my experience as an iPad Pro 2 owner. And my experience is that the iPad Pro 2 is so great that they would need to have a very substantial upgrade to entice me. Me, not You or anybody else. Again, I’m just speaking about whether I personally feel like they need to upgrade it, which is what the thread is asking.

Edit: At the end of the day all we are doing is speculating. You guys could speculate that the IPP 3 will have zero bezels, Face ID 2, 512GB base storage, dual cameras from the 8 Plus, an OLED screen and whatever else you like. That is just as valid as me thinking it will be a more iterative upgrade. Nobody is right or wrong in this discussion because it’s all personal preference, opinions and speculation.

The current iPad Pro "feels" old. The bezels, the physical TouchID, the overall design. Everything about the iPad makes it seem like this is a placeholder product for when Apple (or anyone else) decides to re-invent what Tablets are supposed to be. Because, despite the new iOS 11 features, this is still just a big iPhone and Apple can do better.

(Also, how about a backlit smart keyboard and an Apple Pencil Mini?)

I like big screen. Hell with 4K camera. I don't use iPad for camera. I use it to take notes and etc.

i rather agree about the camera. but the display from the X would be nice. 4KHDR support would be great. and if they want to push the notion of the iPad Pro as a computer replacement a 1TB model and a version of iOS with plug in support for templates, filters etc would be pretty important

oh and how about a smart connector/keyboard that doesn't take a dump after 3 months. and maybe even a pencil with different tip styles plus wireless charging at least for the pencil if not also the iPad

A 2018 iPad Pro X will probably make a 10.5 seem like old news.

not if it also comes in 10.5. if they were smart they would. and a slightly scaled down iPad Pro Mini and ditch the Air/Mini

You aren’t bashing or causing an argument... but it’s your opinion on the validity of this thread and his question. When it comes to talking about or asking questions about “possible” releases or people’s opinions on stuff that didn’t even exist there’s no problem in that (and now we’re talking the same non existent gen 3 iPPs)... there’s not really a need for common sense here (except not expecting crazy stuff like an iPad with rocket boosters.) ;) *or when you say “common sense” what context do you mean?
IMO old threads are fine to bring up, (saves creating a new one.)
Don’t know why you have an issue with his opinion and the revival of the thread, in the end we’re all just dust in the wind. ;)

WWDC is June, no?

I see you have a point ! So since you want to stand up for such a noble cause, why don't you guys do PM to each other ! Perfectly fits the bill !!

I like the way MS Surface Pro unlocks by your looking. Face ID only this is spooky. It’s always looking for you / it’s owner.

SP is heavy for tablet, pen is less usable (Note 8 wins), Intel processors, 8/256, but its Win10. I like that Note 8 comes with 6GB and iPad Pro has 4.

iPad Pro 13” with 8GB and 256GB too far fetched?

I really don’t understand why you being condescending is necessary my friend. No one here is breaking rules or doing anything wrong by asking relevant questions on a forum. If it bugs you so much why not just avoid the thread?
I am also urging everyone else to not to participate in this thread because it is obsolete !
You’re playing “hall monitor” but nobody asked you to, and your missing the badge and hall. Just let it go man, is it really worth it? In the end we’re all just dust in the wind my friend... just dust in the wind. ;)
