iPad Do you apply screen protector on IPad?

Since I just bought a Pencil 2, I'm wondering if I should to protect the screen from the tip.

The pencil tip is soft plastic. No way it will scratch the screen. Probably better than your fingertip since it unlikely to be dirty.

Yes, doubtful Apple would do it purposefully but don't forget they knew there were serious issues with the butterfly keyboard yet sold it for 3 or 4 years.

Yes, there were problems with the butterfly keyboards and Apple released at least 3 different versions during that time trying to address the problems. Ultimately the problems were intractable and they had to revert to an older design. I'm glad that they did. It did take them too long to admit the failure and properly change the keyboard, but it's not like the designed it to fail or that they they nothing for 4 years.

Rusty Staub became a NY Met. A great player too. Sports back then was viewed as competition rather than entertainment today. Sportscasters and color commentators were less hyperbole and more reserved. I miss those days. That’s how Joe Namath went on to become the first NFL superstar with his white shoes and wearing his fur coat on the sidelines. Sports was different back then.

Tempered glass on mine. Protects the screen and my pencil writes a lot better.

Yes I have a glass screen protector on my mini 5 and iPad Pro 11. Saved my mini 5’s screen from cracking a few weeks ago. Imagine I’ve never dropped an iPad in all the years I’ve used them. A few weeks ago I was in my garden using my mini. I wanted to go inside to do something. My fault really as I was carrying too much. Anyhow my mini 5 fell out of my hands and onto the paving. The screen was saved by the glass screen protector. Otherwise I would have been claiming on my apple care plus.

Apple care doesn’t give you replacements because there’s some scratches lol.

Exactly they won’t. They refer to it as cosmetic damage and apple care plus doesn’t cover that.

I wouldn't say "protect", but I like the feel of pencil writing on a screen protector better than the naked glass.

until they make a completely scratch resistant screen I will always, heck just using the Apple folio case i have received micro scratches on my glass screen protector.

Never ever and have had every iPad, sold my 2.5 year old 11“ as new.

I always had screen protectors on my iPhones and sometimes they saved my day. Currently I use one from ESR which is very high quality and doesn’t affect the image quality of the iPhone 12.

I never had any screen protection on my iPads. My last iPad was a standard 6th gen. iPad with the pencil 1st gen. I heavily used it the last 3 1/2 years. I had it daily with me on movie sets and had no time to baby it. It didn’t took long till the first minor scratches and lots of micro abrasions were visible when holding it in the right light and angle. Then I took it with me to Sri Lanka where I traveled with just a backpack from beach to beach and from jungle to mountains. It had contact with sand and all kind of dust. More scratches happened. Using the iPad watching on it in normal angles, none of the scratches are visible or disruptive in any way. It just doesn’t look like new when screen is off.

Now I got myself a M1 12.9 iPad Pro 512gb with a pencil and magic keyboard. Total cost nearly 2000€. The mini led screen looks just amazing and the feeling using the pencil is way better than it was on my old setup. The display still looks like day one. First I don’t thought about using a protector but keeping the high price in mind and the fact that I just can’t baby it because I need it for my job, I bought the same ESR glass protector for it as I use on my phone. Well, the black isn’t black anymore, reflections are worse now and if you look closely you can see something I would describe as “multicoloured grain”. It’s best visible on white screen, a bit like the protector would break the light of the pixels into a green/red/blue grain all over the display.

I hardly can think about anything else… I must decide and set priorities. With the screen protector I don’t care about scratches, micro abrasion and the annoying dust possibly causing all this. But the display quality looks bad, cheap and just not what I bought this device for… Should I just rip the protector off and enjoy my wonderful iPad like I did in the past without worrying about scratches? Probably the scratches and micro abrasion that are coming with normal usage wouldn’t even be visible under normal conditions. It’s just the little voice that keeps screaming “the next time you touch your unprotected iPad could result in the first minor scratch!” And I just want it to stay so wonderfully flawless.

I mean I know that all those little scratches time would bring, wouldn’t affect my usage and overall quality of the display but I still try to avoid them and ruin the display with a protector instead. Stupid isn it?

I guess I will keep the screen protection until I made peace with the fact, that the future scratches won’t affect my experience and the non protected screen image quality makes me happier than a protected screen looking cheap.

I am ashamed that such a first world problem bothers me so much….

Take it off and enjoy the quality that you've paid the extra $$ for! After many back and forth decisions, the extra glare and loss of darker blacks and contrast with the protector just ruins the amazing experience. And life is too short 😃

No. It’s cased anyway (magic keyboard) and, besides, I’ve never had a scratch on any iDevice screen I’ve owned.

I use a glass screen protector on my phone and IPad mini. I like the way they feel but mainly I use them so I don’t have to worry about scratches or feel the need to baby my screens. I like being able to clean the screen with whatever I have or rub it on my pants to clean it. I like that I don’t have to use a dedicated cloth for cleaning like I do on my expensive scopes or binoculars.

I usually buy a 2 or 3 pack when I first get a new device. By the time I’ve used them up I really no longer care and just go naked.

I might get a cheap gloss PET film for my mini 6 'cos I don't like the added weight of tempered glass. Almost bought the Bellemond, but I wasn't sure how I would like having less screen definition on a small tablet.
