I chose my phone based on the colour of the camera bump, and how well it would match with a case.

I have a royal blue case, with a pink 13 Mini. It was either pink or starlight, because other colours wouldn't work with the case.

If I got a Pro, I'd probably go for the gold model because the camera bump would work on almost any case.

But yes, if I were going caseless, I'd go for the blue regular 14, or the dark purple Pro.

there
Nope
the 12 mini Blue matches the  color to, ummm nothing I own!
I did score a nice clear protector that shows the back.
and
seems to me that the new  colors are not as solid (hue wise) as the ones in 2020.
the iPod colors are weaker than previous models.
they all work incredible tho!

I got a 12 Pro in Pacific blue when it came out and at first I really liked it. Then, I kinda got sick of the color and wished that I had stuck with a neutral color. This time, I got the silver/white and with the exposed camera area it goes with a ton of cases.

I went quite recently to buy a Mini 13 in Midnight and hated the colour in person. The Blue next to it however totally mesmerized me (fav colour) and I walked out with it. So I'm not sure the ratio of hating Midnight vs loving the Blue that was involved here. Had there been a SG I would have purchased that.

Edit: The OG SE the Mini replaced was SG but in the last few yrs I ran with a bright red case. Well since 2016 it did feel like I somewhat had a new phone finally. Other large components I try stay with safe colous like Black.

I always get the darkest colour available, the only exception was the 13 Pro that I bought in Sierra blue which I still liked when I passed it on to a family member when my 14 Pro arrived.
Still more than happy with my choice of Space Black, although it's often in the black leather case anyway.

All my iPhones including my iPhone 8 (which was the last one) have been black/space grey.

However, when I decided to purchase the 13 mini, I had the great fortune that almost all the colors are darker, pretty neutral, and classy. I love many of them, so I tried a few.

The first one I got was the Product(RED). This is the most beautiful red iPhone I’ve seen, just behind the bloody red iPhone 8. But, after a couple of weeks, I started to get tired of it. I don’t know how to explain it, maybe it was the matte/translucent case, but I didn’t quite like it after some time.

Then I used the starlight. Beautiful, and one of the colors I’d keep if I had it as a present. I returned it for other reasons (PWM and uneven OLED white color).

After that, a whole year passed, and I got a green iPhone 13 mini. Did I regret it? Nope, but to be honest, it wasn’t my favorite color. But I would have kept it if it wasn’t because of OLED screen issues (PWM).

This brings us to the last one I purchased recently: a Midnight 13 mini. A gorgeous iPhone and, by far, my favorite color. This one has a pretty decent screen so hopefully I’ll keep it as my new iPhone for years to come.

Did I regret the purchase of any of them? Well, I’d say the red one. It is gorgeous but, over time, you start to realize that you don’t want to use a red iPhone for the next 4 or 5 years (maybe even more).

Yeah I got sick of Pacific Blue within a couple of days. Fortunately I had to return that phone anyway.

I love the purple of my 14 Pro Max. I find it oddly neutral, which is not how I'd ever thought to describe anything purple.

I have a friends who is hating her purple 14PM. I warned her but she was in love with it at the time. She knows someone who will buy it from her but there are no 14PM units to buy to replace it.

Since the separation of the regular iPhones and iPhones Pro, I typically get the “new” shade of the pro phone (11 Pro green, 12 Pro blue, 13 Pro blue, 14 Pro purple). But this year, I really wished the Pro models came in the current Product (RED) color. It’s SO bright. I love it. But I have the purple Pro Max.

I usually always end up getting the pro models, and therefore usually end up getting one of the neutral colors like Silver/graphite, which honestly becomes a bit boring and uninspired after a while.

I've always wanted to get a product red iPhone but didn't want to give up all the high-end specs the pro models have. But I feel like phones, in general, are getting so good that even the nonpro models aren't looking/performing that bad.

I'm just wondering if you guys ever regret getting the iPhone color you got after x amount of time. whether it is because the neutral colors bore you or if the more colorful phones become more of an eye-sore after a while.

I like the idea of getting a colored iPhone, but not sure if it's just an impulse of wanting something different that I'll probably regret down the line.
I regretted not just getting same 5c color as my wife. She said she wanted green, and I wanted green too.

I ended up getting the blue because she said we shouldn’t have the same color iPhone.

I will always regret not just getting the green, too :(

(*the blue grew on me, to where now I just had an intense moment of nostalgia for holding the blue 5c. So comfortable to hold.)

Yes, I got the blue iPhone 12 and the following year they came out with the iPhone 13 in pink (that I very much want), but the iPhone 14 does not come in pink. I have it in a case, but very much wish it were pink. I have no money to upgrade anyway.

The pink, is that like a matte rose gold? Looks identical but without the high reflection.

Blue is my fav colour but I'd never consider going outside the traditional black, silver for any electronics or AV equipment, cameras, etc

So not long ago, in I went to buy a 13 Mini in Midnight to replace my OG SE that was/ is SG, apprehensive as I hated the Midnight when I looked at a MBA M2. Well, on the ph I hated it even more but there was no SG for the 13 Mini. Then saw the blue option, well it's heavily a teal rather, and was immediately smitten by that tone.

Apple got the silicone case matched 1:1 to it and I've just ordered a second, identical spare case (keep my phones forever) from a reseller as they're no longer sold now.
