I personally like this bezel less design.

No because having no bezels makes it hard to hold. Unless they manage super good detection of fingers on the edges then you need some bezel when holding the device with one hand.

With The current iPad, I prefer the bezels as they do help with inadvertent touching on the display and holding. Even having reduced bezels is aesthetically pleasing on the 10.5 iPad, but I still appreciate the bezels purposes.

I love this so much. I really do hope they do it - but I have a feeling they won't. They will most likely reduce the size of the top and bottom bezel to match the size of the sides of the current one.

Oled would be fantastic. Wireless charging would be great too, but I imagine they will wait until its quicker.

Nope, but Apple will certainly continue to reduce bezels and eventually eliminate the home button.

If you’re already using iOS 11 you will notice that it’s designed for iPads and one of its goals is to move away from using the home button.

I expect future iPads to be smaller/lighter in a remarkable fashion.

I’m not sure of the other stuff.

But back in 2016/2015 Ming Chi Kuo had predicted that in 2018 Apple will release a radically changed iPad with OLED display in 2018. He got every single prediction of every single iPad in 2017 right. If he is again correct, we will probably have an OLED iPad that is of a new size around June 2018.

It May or May not be without bezels. But the other stuff would then be a given.

That is a common assumption, but Kuo wrote 2018 or later.

Ming-Chi Kuo said:
Revolutionary iPad model likely to be introduced in 2018F at the earliest, with radical changes in form factor design & user behavior on adoption of flexible AMOLED panel. We believe iPad will follow in the footsteps of the iPhone by adopting AMOLED panel in 2018F at the earliest.

That’d be cool. While it’ll be likely 3-4 years before I upgrade my 10.5, I’d gladly update it to one of those.

No, thank you. An iPad needs to have frames around the screen. My iPad Pro 12.9 screen is always sinking into my bedsheet when holding it over my stomach in bed. Could you imagine how much would vanish without any frames?

Bezels are not as necessary as some believe. The Sharp Aquos Crystal that was my daily driver had no bezels on 3 sides and except for 3 or 4 accidental touches in the first 2 weeks, it was extremely reliable. Granted, tablets are larger and heavier so need additional surface area for gripping, it is possible to accommodate that need in a bezel-less design.

i'm a fan of bezel-less design and hope that Apple produces such an ipad.

Well some day maybe. We will end up with something akin to a newspaper but it’s actually a foldable, rollable iPad.

The design on the picture up top doesn’t speak to me. Looks weird with the notch on the iPad.

Really? I think it looks awesome.

Ming Chi Kuo said he expects something like this in 2018.

I do have to admit, I’m having more problems with unintended taps on my 10.5” iPad screen due to the tiny bezels than any other iPad. It is a little harder to hold. Although, I’m willing to deal with it for the larger screen.

I think the new design will inevitably come to the iPad.

Can't wait for the September 12 even when all these ridiculous "notch" rumors are put to rest. Yes there will be a notch, NO it won't be noticeable. It'll be a black area with the time, battery, etc.

Come to think of it, it's possible that they will give it a very slim bezel design when they go to OLED. They could black out pixels around the edge and turn off touch to give the illusion of a bezel when in specific apps. That way it can be made easier to hold without unintentional touches as normal, but then the whole device can be made full-screen for specific apps if required - a similar idea that many consider when hiding the notch on the new iPhone.

I like bezels because you need a place to hold the tablet. They serve a purpose. The iPhone is held differently so bezels in that instance don't serve the same purpose.

Remember that this is an Apple forum. Design usually takes on more importance than usuability. As long as it's the hot new thing I doubt many people will care if it's easy to hold. I've come to the conclusion that Apple's obsession with reduction isn't the most consumer friendly solution (2016 rMBP and iPhone 7). The only new Apple product I bought in the last 2 years was the 10.5 Pro. Everything else just seemed frivolous and not worth upgrading, especially when you lose features. The iPad has remained exactly the same, with only minor changes that actually enchance your experience rather than hindering it (dongles anyone?). I'll be an iPad customer for life as long as they don't mess it up.
