I tested the new 16 for a few days and can confirm that my wrists were pressed against the sharp front edge while typing. I adjusted my ergonomics and made sure my wrists and forearms were parallel with the desk however I think the thicker chassis is what creates this weird angle which forces your wrists to press against the edge. No go for me.
I never had an issue with the sharp edges on any version of MBP. The edges ARE sharp, but never bothered me. If they did it would be a deal breaker. I wonder how many people have an issue with the edges in reality?

I think, that many do have an issue with it but simply say nothing as they know that nothing can be done (except to give it back).

It’s all about design.

Even though I have the 14", I am still debating my choice.

I think I will stick out the 14" but I really did not think the 16" was that big when I saw it in person.

My Apple history has been the following (I just realized that I had been on a 3 year cycle... interesting):

- 2009 Mac Mini w/ 15" external monitor
- 2010 17" MacBook Pro
- 2013 13" MacBook Pro
- 2016 15" MacBook Pro
- 2019 13" MacBook Air
- 2021 14" MacBook Pro

I stopped using the 15" MBP and 13" MBA due to the butterfly keyboards being total crap. I missed out on the return periods for each and never bothered selling them. I traded them in towards the new 14" MBP.

I have mostly been using the 2013 13" MBP because of the keyboard. Yes, it is slow at times, but the footprint and weight are almost 100% the same as the new 14" MBP. Even the ports are almost 100% identical. :)

I always had a Windows desktop that I used at home for work with dual monitors. I have been using my 14" MBP with my dual monitors and am now considering selling my maxed out Windows machine -- i9-9990K, GeForce 1080 FTW, 64GB memory, dual m.2 SSDs, etc... This 14" with dual monitors is doing everything I did on my windows machine with ease.

My reason for still considering the 16" is when traveling. My wife and I love to go camping in our camper. When traveling, I still need to work, so the larger screen would benefit me. However, the footprint might be too big at time when working remote.

Dang it... I hate having first world problems. LOL
well from a pure perf/price ratio,is it worth it for you?

imo :

bigger display=200$
better speakers = 30$
better professor (If we talk about base model ) = 200$ ,per apple value ...for me tho,it's only worth 75$ ,I don't need more cores
bigger trackpad=15$?
much better battery = 75-100$
better thermals and bigger fans (meaning cooler, less fans , fans making less noise )=50$

you could also say that

bigger chassis = -40
heavier = -20

the values ofc depend on how much it's worth FOR YOU

i mostly work in the office in clamshell with 2 monitors. Then a couple times a week and on the weekend, I bring my computer home to do some work. For that reason, I thought I’d want the 14” for the sake of portability. But coming from a 2016 15”, I’m used to the size. In fact, I prefer the larger screen when I work on the couch. And then when I used my wife’s new 16”, that sort of sealed the deal. I placed my order for a 16” today!

Honestly for the larger screen, larger battery and 140 watt charger more than compensate for the cost difference and I fully recommend the larger size 16" model!

As for the odd comments about the industrial design which I think looks great as a natural progression of the line. The edges don't feel sharp to me?

The 14" is significantly lighter but still is not light. In my opinion the notch is much more noticeable on the 14" than on the 16". Also I believe the 140watt charger is using a new technology for the first time.

I don't think you can make a wrong choice though!

I like how the 16 inch charger charges 1.8% per minute and the mac lasts all day. I’m at 50 battery cycles and battery health is still 100%.

I bought one. Okay my honest take on it size wise is that yes the screen is big and thats nice but it hurts to keep it on the lap for a fair amount of time. So yeah too heavy. If you're going to keep it on a desk you wont notice the weight but imo its too heavy to keep on the lap. It hurts after a while of using. Also the larger screen means moving the mouse or more or moving on the trackpad more so thats something else to bear in mind.

Mine seems okay while sitting on my desk, but I realize that if I needed to lug it around every day it would probably be a real pain…..

This is extremely subjective. You should go to an Apple Store, if you can, to check them out in person. You may be in for a shock going from the 13" Pro from 2016 to the new 2021 16". Look at it this way: it's like going from the iPhone 8 to the iPhone Pro Max. For some people, myself included, the 6.7" Pro Max is just too big, so we go with the smaller "regular" Pro. Same capabilities, smaller form factor. I hope this helps!
That’s a very thoughtful and helpful response

I returned the 14" and kept the 16". If it fits in your bag / backpack I'd get the 16" - your back muscles will get a little stronger from the 1 extra pound (besides, after 1 hour you won't notice the difference anymore).

Whenever I'm on the go I can put 2 windows side-by-side on the 16" which helps tremendously in my workflows (mainly coding / data analysis).

Like the 14" it's an incredibly fast and beautiful laptop. I never thought there would be worthy successor to my MBP 2015 after Apple's Dark Ages but there is.

Do you find the new 16” too big?

I think it’s obviously to small for many people.
But you will probably see a MacBook Pro 18-inch with M2 Ultra chip and also a MacBook Pro 20-inch with M3 Ultra.

ive said this before but if you compare both sized in store, the 14 feels like you are shorting yourself. I rather spend the money and get a 16 and an upcoming 2 LB MacBook. anything over 2 LB isnt really mobile. if the 16" was 17" and slightly wider, id get that. Yea its a bit heavier for longer lap use but its not like the 14" is all that light either. that 12" 2 LB MacBook was a dream in bed, airplanes and on the go. I got the Air M1 and the extra size and .7 pound or whatever it was, threw me off. it was no longer comfortable on the couch.

I will add that since I got the Studio Display, the 16" sits on a desk 70% of the time, so when I take it on the lap or in bed, its not long use and feels alright.

Loved the lightness of my 2010, 13" MBAir, but it never sat ON my lap, always slid down my legs on one side or the other (it was 100% my "leisure" computer). I kept it 3 years longer than I should've, hoping the rumored 15" or 16" MBAir would come out, but it never did and last year I gave up and bought the 16" Pro. Love how it sits ON my legs, albeit very overpowered for what I'm using it for now.
It is uncomfortable as many above have mentioned, but I actually think its because it has almost "barrel" feet that point down, rather than the shallow rubber button feet my 13" has, which didn't dig in so much (doesn't help that I have bird-legs). I've ordered some 1/8" self-adhesive cork sheets to stick on the bottom of my new MB, will report if that makes an appreciable difference.

Hey. I’m currently deciding what new MacBook Pro to upgrade to. I’m upgrading from a 13” Pro 2016 and mainly use my MacBook around the house and only take it out now and again. I had originally thought of the 14” for my needs but I’m really intrigued by the 16” and the larger screen. Anyone who has it, do you find it too big and heavy for everyday use or do you just get used to the size and it’s not a problem? In your opinion is the 14 or 16” a worthy upgrade from an older 13”? Thank you
For me more screen real estate helps my productivity so I'm happy with the new 16". And I can remember when laptops used to weigh in around 3Kg so all modern notebooks feel light in comparison.

I was actually daydreaming about what an 18 inch MBP would look like today. I decided that it would start at maybe £3,699 with the 32 core Max/32gb/1tb and be around £4,999 for the 48 core Ultra/64gb/1tb. Would sure be awesome to have all that power in a laptop for those who need it. I was guessing a weight of around 6.5 pounds. The only blockers to this that I could think of are:

- How many people would actually buy it…
- The battery would have to be over 100Wh, which I think means you couldn’t use it on a plane - but I think they’d have to make that trade off in order to have a sensible battery life on an M1 Ultra version
- Fans would probably need to be on a heck of a lot more on the M1 Ultra version, and there’ll probably be some throttling under load

Overkill for me, but would love to see it. In answer to the actual question of the thread, I’ve just purchased an M1 Pro 16inch, and it’s just the right size for me. I only really use it around the house, and will only travel with it maybe once a month - so there’s no need for the extra portability of the 14 inch. I really like having the extra real estate for photo/video/music work. Hoping to buy a mini-LED external monitor when apple get round to releasing it, should work as a nice companion to that.

I'm coming from a 17" MBP, which to my eyes is still the best display of any portable Mac to look at. I also scored an old 2015 15" is the perfect machine with regard to processor, ports, serviceability and reliability. But that 15" display makes me squint to see it, so I also luckily grabbed a max spec 16" before the end of the Intel run with the same display as the M-series MBPs and has all the power, but none of the useful ports or servicability, and a display that's as small as I can stand to look at. I leave it on an external display 90% of the time anyway, but then it's basically an iMac but less powerful than the actual iMac sitting next to it. So this whole circus act makes me feel kind of stupid for having poured a years worth of my salary into it.

Big screen good.

first it felt heavy, and pressing a bit much when tilting on my lap recliner. then it felt ok, tolerable. then i didn't notice it anymore, feeling almost light but just careful to use a second hand when moving it around the house. still, that 15 inch air next year looks really compelling if it becomes real. for reference the LG 17" gram is just under 3 pounds. imagine that in a mac. almost half the current weight. if that can do that with a 15-16 inch screen, it will earn the air monicker again.
