I've had the iPhone 4 since launch, yesterday my iPad came, and the whole screen just looks blurry to me, especially text. Is this something you get used to?

No I don't think it's defective, it's the same blurriness I notice when I look at my friends 3GS screen

You just have the best eyesight in the world, or you are holding the iPad way too close to your face.

I am going for the latter.

The iPad is just like any other monitor. Don't use it so close to your face...

I have an iPhone 4 and an iPad, and while I look forward to improved iPad screen technology, I can't say that the current tech bothers me. I spend a lot more time on the iPad each day than I do the iPhone, due to the larger screen.

Yes you get used to it. The only time I really notice a difference is when I'm using the same program on different devices back-to-back (i.e. Lasers Free).

Honestly I use the iPad much more than the iPhone (only really use the iPhone to phone, chat, and quickly check email) so I'm sure that has an effect as well. If I used the iPhone a lot more than I would probably be less satisfied with the iPad screen.

That's probably why, I used to use my iPhone 4 for everything, and I've only had the iPad a day now

I guess you are looking at them from a close distance, because iPhone has a resolution of 960x640 on a 3.5" screen with 326 ppi, whereas iPad has a 9.7" has a resolution of 1024x768 on a 9.7" screen with 132 ppi, so from a close distance, the iPhone will look better but if you look at them from distance, you aren't going to see much of a difference.
I have an iPad 64GB and honestly i don't find it blurry at all.

It's only noticeable on the iPad if you view it to close up. I came from an iPhone 4 to an iPad and initially I thought the difference in screen resolution was huge but if you use the iPad at the viewing distance it was designed for you won't notice the pixel pitch.

As for the iPhone the smaller screen means you would normally view it closer up which is why you need the higher res screen to not notice the spaces between pixels.

Wow, where'd you pull that DPI for iPad from, your ***? That's not even correct. At least research your "facts" before you state them.

Just edited it, it's actually 132 ppi, and I think every one makes mistakes.

God I'm sick of these threads. . . .

iPad has better screen than any Mac laptop (I'm fairly sure of that) are people really choosing to use their iPhone 4 over their computer because "they just can't bare the ugly blurry laptop anymore"?

There is just so much ridiculous banter around this subject at the moment. If people are really saying that they prefere their iP4 to browse the net/email than a laptop/iPad. . . . . Well they're damn weird.

Nobody gave two poops about the freaking retina screen until the iPhone 4.
There is nothing to get used to. It's a beautiful screen even with an anti-glare screen protector on it.

I'm very fussy about having crisp, clean displays on electronics. The difference between iPad and iPhone 4 display is nothing to fuss over. I enjoy using both. The only niggle I have lies with the iPad brightness control, too high in low light and dull in very bright light. Using it indoors or the shadows is my best fit.

I bought my wife an iPhone 4 at the first of the week. I've seen the screen before in the store, and now that we own one, I still don't get these threads. The screen on the iPhone 4 looks nice for a small screen, but I really can't tell too much difference, if at all, between my iPad and the iPhone 4. Some of you people have issues.

I've stopped using my 50" HDTV since it only has a DPI of 44.

I think the most they can/will do is double the current resolution of the iPad like they did the iPhone 4. If they double it to 2048x1536, the DPI on the iPad will be 264. More realistically, they will do something more like 1920x1200 and get something around 233 DPI for the iPad.

I immediately noticed the difference in resolution (iMac and iPad now look more 'pixelated'/not as vibrant to me), but you do get used to it.

I wish I could have retinas on all my LCD devices now! :) would be waaaay too expensive though.

I have both the iPhone 4 and an iPad. I never notice the difference when using my iPad. I only notice the iPhone 4 is sharper when using the iPhone 4.

iPad is really great for watching videos, but reading web pages really SUCKS.

I can care less about a camera on the iPad. I want a retina display!

The next iPad better cook me dinner and do my laundry or I'm going to come on some sort of Macintosh rumors site and post about it.

In the meantime I'll just settle with my woman doing those things for me.

There is nothing to get used to. I use the iPad in my lap. It's larger size allows me to do this and things are clear. I hold the iPhone closer to face as items are smaller. The tv sits across the room and seems bigger yet. Things are relative. I'm more surprised this is the first time you have seen one.

As for the difference between the retina and non-retina displays, I imagine it depends on one's eyesight. I have fairly poor vision, and when I looked at an iPhone 4 and an iPhone 3Gs side-by-side, I honestly couldn't tell the difference in sharpness. My wife (who also has fairly poor vision) said she thought the iPhone 3GS screen looked BETTER than the iPhone 4 screen!

Anyway, I find the iPad screen to be gorgeous to my eyes. Given the choice between a lower-priced iPad without the retina screen and a higher-priced one with the retina screen, I'd take the lower-priced option.
