Seems so long ago, how long ago was that and how long were they the only carrier to offer it at the time?

First iPhone came out in 2007 and AT&T had exclusivity to the iPhone up until the iPhone 4.

Edit: typo... came*

I thought that the iPhone remained an at&t exclusive until the iPhone 4.

I had the original iPhone with at&t until the 4s, I switched to Verizon.

I remember.

I remember waiting four years for the iPhone to come to Sprint because I was not going to move to AT&T.

I remember all the issues with data on AT&T and their network being unprepared. I remember AT&T blaming it's customers for using data.

I remember using a non-iPhone smartphone on Sprint that could cut and paste and send MMS while the iPhone couldn't. I remember iPhone finally getting that feature and AT&T finally enabling MMS.

I remember when Verizon got the iPhone and finally when Sprint got it. Then I remember that it wasn't an iPhone I wanted. So I remember waiting one more year before buying my first iPhone on Sprint.

Yeah. I remember.

Yeah I remember. I had been a Cingular/ATT customer for years, and I wasn’t an Apple user prior to the release of the iPhone. When the iPhone was first released I was a PocketPC user and had just bought an HTC Tilt; I sort of scoffed at the iphones limitations (no 3G? No physical keyboard? What a joke) until a friend of mine got one and showed me the Safari browser and let me type on the screen. That night I exchanged my Tilt for an iPhone and have had almost every iteration since. Sucked me into the Apple ecosystem.

No one knew it was going to be that big so hell no they weren’t ready for all those customers. God I remember that what crappy service at the time.

I think it was 2010, but I switched to Verizon with the iPhone 4s in 2011.
Yeah, you may be right now that I consider it.

When Sprint got the iPhone they got the 4s and the 4 at the same time which would have been 2011. Verizon got the 4 first. So, yeah. 2010.

I remember switching from Sprint due to a horrible customer service experience and going to AT&T for the original iPhone back in Feb 2008.

I remember after the 3GS released in 2009 the iPhone commercials showing off being able to talk on the phone via while surfing the web to look things up via 3G and touting "can YOUR phone on YOUR carrier do that" which was clearly aimed at VZW and Sprint since phones could not do both at once at the time via CDMA.

I remember the antennagate fiasco shortly after the iPhone 4 dropped and Apple holding a special event conference for SJ to take the stage to explain/defend. Was it due to the iPhone 4 antenna design or due to AT&T's network?

I remember VZW finally getting iPhone 4 in early 2011 and Spring joining in at the release of iPhone 4S in fall 2011.

San Francisco and the Bay Area were especially bad if I recall correctly.

That made ATT and Verizon giants! Cause all the people that hated ATT could go to Verizon and vice versa. Best 4 years of ATT growth and pockets!

I switched to AT&T for the iPhone, and they had me as a customer all the way up to Friday. I suspect that story is true for a lot of people. Great deal for AT&T. For Apple to as well I suppose. Though I wonder if Android would have been able to get a foothold had Apple brought the iPhone to more carriers earlier on. Of course, Apple had no idea any of this would happen at the time. I seem to remember them hoping to capture something like 1 or 10 percent of the cell sales. Wow.
