I'm happy to see the "i"Products go. But I did like the Powerbook name. Either way over the past few months I've learned to accept the new name.

Hey at least they didn't name it the Wii.

I think this post sums up my sentiments. "i" this and that is getting pretty dated. I would add that the suffix "Pro" still smells of marketing cheese.

PowerBook still a better name anyday. People still confuse themselves with the MacBook (Pro) names and use them interchangeably when they meant something else.

MacBook/Mac (Pro) still sound like something off of a burger joint on an exit off some highway. Would you like some fries with that?

Apple was correct to remove the "power" from the titles of their products, as they have moved away from the PowerPC architecture. But they should have stuck with the iBook name for the computer lines.

Consumer: iMac, iBook
Pro: Macbook Pro, Mac Pro

The macbook pro/macbook distinction is incredibly annoying and confuses people in converstation.

yes, it's really annoying in conversation.
i think your solution is the best. i don't understand why apple didn't change the name for the iMac. it's total out of the product names. the target groups aren't that clear like in ppc times i think.

I guess the "i" was just too much of a brand to remove it completely. This is especially the case for the iMac (almost as much as for the iPod). And to be fully consistent with the naming scheme it would have been changed from iMac to Mac, which would even be more confusing than the MacBook and MacBook Pro names.

A funny story about macbook.

My japanese teacher was going on a trip to Tokyo and she ask me if I want any souvenir. I said I wanted a macbook for souvenir (it is a joke, of cuz). I thought she knew it was a joke and we left it as that.

Days later I got a email asking me in which MacDonald can she get a macbook :p .

I think it was very smart of Apple to put Apple into all of their computers. Now I have grown very fond of the MacBook Pro name.

Nah... don't really care...

I liked my PowerBook G3 (Pismo), my iBook G4 and now like my MacBook Intel Core Duo, and call(ed) them all by their names anyway, Treskjegg, ono-sendai and Serenity. ;)

I've decided I like MacBook better than iBook, but PowerBook better than MacBook Pro.

For me Powerbook just rolls off the tongue MacBook Pro still takes me a while to say it and write it. While talking about it I often accidentally call it a Powerbook. And while typing it I get have to correct myself every time. And the Apple Dictionary doesn't have MacBook in its dictionary and marks it as misspelled. But it does have Powerbook, iBook, iMac, PowerMac, iPod, iTunes, iCal, iPhoto, iDVD, iMovie, iChat, QuickTime... A bunch of words that are Apple Brand products but no MacBook.

Who cares about the name. The product defines the meaning of the name anyway. Or did anyone think VAIO was a good name at the start?

As long as it's not MyLittleHandyNotebook :p

iBook, PowerBook (its only 2 syllables the way we pronounce it here) and MacBook are good. I'm not really opposed to MacBook. Its the MacBookPro that really bugged me. I think adding the extra syllable made it harder to palate.

PowerBook predates the PowerPC by a number of years, for those who think that PowerBook referenced the chip inside ;)
