No way I try to give all the free apps a try at least and if they do come up as crap i just delete them. But I don't automatically think that all the free apps are bad.

Apple has no right to disabled my iphone. I paid for it and its mine.

This wins the award for most ironic comment in the thread. You're super concerned about your own property while you are actively planning on stealing the property/work of others.

Only 5% of iPhone users would actually use BeatMaker or Epocrates, but those are quite successful.

5% penetration is HUGE. Most apps don't crack 1% (and those are the mainstream ones). Just by way of example, if you assume 10 million iPhones and iPod touches out in the field today, Super Monkey Ball (an insanely hyped game) didn't crack 5% penetration. It hit 3%.

A crappy icon, a crappy interface, unoriginal content/functionality...these things compromise respectability far more than the price, free or otherwise. I have free apps I would gladly have paid for, and apps I've bought that I wouldn't download again even if they were free.
That's how I feel.

As for charging versus not, I have no problem with a developer trying to make money or even recoup the money s/he has invested to develop the app in the first place. Why would they spend money to make a cool app and not be able to benefit from it monetarily? Now if they were making money via ads or other means, and still charging for it, I would feel a little cheated. I wouldn't want to pay for an app and then still have to bypass advertisements.

Good luck with your app, whatever it is. :)

I don't lose respect for free applications, and out of the hundreds of applications available now, I have only bought one. The only reason why I lose respect for an application (or developer) is if it has a poor UI, icon, or description. (See the MobileChat & Now Playing descriptions.)

I do NOT loose any respect at all for Free Apps. Great ones to date are Aurora Feint, BoxOffice, Pandora, MyLite, Shazam and now Simplify (for a short time)

And I respect Devs that have great paid Apps like Teleport, eWallet, DataCase, Galcon and now Invasion.

What I loose respect for are those that are looking for sympathy buyers and by posting in forums and those that are so insecure that they cannot just put their app up and see what will be will be. You starting a thread over your insecurities instead of just making a decision and living with it is a great turn off and if I knew what your App was...I would NOT download it at all whether it was or was not free. Very poor tactics and sales knowledge.

Come back when you get some Gonads!!!

 You've just shown your age and immaturity; this is probably the worst business advice I've ever heard. I'm sure my app will be over your head anyways since you couldn't even figure out how to work DataCase. ;)

Good then I don't have to worry about it even thinkin about yours and if it is difficult in anyway, don't expect to much. No ONE knows everything, and if you did then you wouldn't be starting a thread asking if you should charge or offer a freebie. I am old enough to be your father so don't go there. I have also been enlisting people in the Army for over 15 years, so I think I know a little about sales and the market...a lot more then you will ever learn from sittin behind a computer messin with code.

Good Luck on your App :)

How do you think people learn new things? I'll give you a hint; you ask questions and do research. Seriously man, if you are as old as you say you are then common sense would tell you that you don't just jump into new ventures without doing some research and I happen to think that open forums are an excellent source of information. Who better to learn from than your potential customer base?

If you're going to continue to troll then I would rather you not respond to my posts. Thanks.
