I use Google. A friend used Jeeves, but they soon saw the error of their ways :D

Google is just there, its a search box, and it gives excellent results. It's extremely fast, reliable, and easy to use. There's no clutter, no graphical ads, just an extremely good search engine with a minimalist interface. It's... dum dum dum, SIMPLY THE BEST! *dances*

 :D :D

Google is great. No clutter, great results, and it's just so SIMPLE, yet powerful. I guess it's very much like a lot of Apple's products...

I use Ask Jeeves a little bit, and AltaVista very very rarely, but neither of them are anywhere near as good as Google. Plus all the little extras like the online google Word Processor and Office equivalents, GMail, PicasaWeb etc... It's all great stuff...

I think this poll's queston wasn't restrictive enough - it was too broad. I think everyone uses Google every now and again for variety of serach information. Much like Google searchers use another engine like LexisNexis.

That's why I think you are seeing a 98% YES rate. Maybe if it were worded "Do you use Google as your primary search engine?" it may produce more accurate results.

Then it may not :).

i live in google, google from google bar on safari/opera, have google in my dashboard, gmail, google earth, google sketchup...

Google uses text-only advertisements. Best idea ever. Having the search box on web browsers such as Firefox and Safari is a big thing too

End of story.

I use it, but I don't like it.

If I need to look something up real fast, like a picture or something, sure Ill use it. But I like ask.com and yahoo.

As for google prodeucts, I used to have a gmail account, but I cancelled it becuase I don't like the interface. I do LOVE google earth though. SOOOOOOOO neat!

I have to say that I think that Google needs to change to stay in the game. Unfortunately there are no real competitors for me. When I started using Google, I could get what I wanted within the first 3-4 results, but now the engine is full of loads of junk, pity really.

Everyone I know says "Google [insert word here]" to mean "Search on the internet for this:". Excluding me. ;)

Everyone I know says "Google [insert word here]" to mean "Search on the internet for this:".
Maybe, "everyone" actually uses Google (and only Google) to search, so in that case, they wouldn't be using the word improperly, no? :p

Yeah, we were taught to use AltaVista at school.
Hah. When I was in elementary school, we were taught to use Lycos. :D

Everyone I know says "Google [insert word here]" to mean "Search on the internet for this:".
I say "Google [insert word here]" to mean "If you use Google to search for that, you will find what I'm talking about because I used Google to search for it too."

I use it partly out of habit, partly because Google searching is integrated into Safari, and partly because I usually do get better results. And no other search site beats Google's Image Search, period.

yes i use google, but for a while (a few years ago by now) i had used Dogpile a lot, they have a cute doggie. I don't know i just somehow switched to google and from there just kept using it. Maybe the built in search bar in firefox? :)

With the built-in search bar in Safari and Firefox, it's so convenient to use Google. It helps that it's fast and the webpage is uncluttered.

A9 when I'm using Firefox, Google when I'm using Safari. There's something just so nice about A9.

Maybe it's this, I don't know:

A couple of months ago I actually made an honest effort to try and use Yahoo! (mainly for comparison) and I found that in almost every case, I got a better result using Google.

I think that a big part of my reasons for switching to Google was miniclip.com (I'm 15 now). I used to play Yahoo! Games all the time (especially pool and poker), then miniclip caught my attention and I started not going to the Yahoo! website anymore.

I use http://www.dogpile.com so I kinda use google. Dogpile searches most of the main search engines:google, yahoo, msn, ask.

The results is the best combination of the searches, and I think it works great. It's also fast.

I think google can read you mind when it comes to spelling!

lol

You can type makokro and it will correct it knowing exactly what you were trying to say, (macbook pro lol)

I heard a guy present today on search and he stated that in the US, Google has a 55/60% of all search, whereas in the UK, it's 80% to Google. Does that tally with people's thinking?

edit: I guess not if you look at the poll results... ;)

55-60% that seems very very low, not just these poll results but the general consensus is that Google is searched by the masses, got to be closer to 80-90% surely?

What was Google's motto?, don't be evil?

Or as Evil as Microsoft?

Somthing about huge streamrolling mammoths like Google that make me use Yahoo.
