I just bought an iPod about 30 minutes ago and i have been thinking about it. I plan on buying maybe 1 music video right when i get it to check out how it functions but beside that I may buy a TV show or 2 if they are ones i like(obviously) and i have like a long flight somewhere or something that would be pretty sick i think, i just got a smile on my face thinking about doing that!!!

If I buy some Fairplay DRM'd media (music or video), and upgrade computers to something new, can I just move the media files over? Do I have to copy an encryption key file too? Do a have to do something online? If I upgrade my computer once every 3 years, for 30 years, will the stuff I get now still work then? Thanks.

Why is that a great price? 2usd an episode makes seasons over 50usd!!! And they would be free over the air?!? I'd rather them have included a tv tuner, so you could PVR them to the ipod.pdpfilms said:

Actually season 1 is for sale for $34.99, but I still prefer DVDs and ordinary broadcasting in (at least) PAL resolution (768 x 576), anything less than that isn't even interesting for free... 
I haven't checked this out yet, but I'm really interested... of course, for a lot of shows, I can just set the Replay to record them and then download them to my computer if I want. But if Apple starts to build up a real library...I'd be very interested.

True, it's DVD prices for a lower resolution, but it's available throughout the season, instead of only months after the season. And it'll probably download faster than a torrent and be legal too.
And to everyone talking about how TV is cheaper: To me, TV is only useful if you have a TiVo, or a PVR setup on your computer. I have neither, nor do I have cable. So, to me, this only leaves three choices: DVDs, bittorrent, or now, iTunes.
yeah I already have the three lost episodes. Man why not just this once. If I really like I will do it again.

When I first heard you could download episodes I was a bit disappointed because I just bought an EyeTV 500. After watching the keynote, I no longer care, as the 320x240 resolution will look like crap full screen on my 20 inch display, which is how I like to watch my episodes. So to answer the original question, I will not download episodes, unless for some reason the EyeTV fails and there are no re-runs.
I'm still indifferent about the price.
Per episode, it really doesn't seem too bad.
But when you think about an entire season, and that you can buy a season on DVD for like $19...the price on iTunes seems a little high.
An entire season of shows on iTunes would easily reach or exceed $50, which is unreasonable in comparison.
If iTunes offered a download of the entire season at the end of the season for the same deal as a DVD, that would be good...but then that would hurt current sales since the deal would be MUCH better if you waited until the season was done.

You're not looking at the big picture. For those of us who don't own expensive recording equipment or are busy and miss the airing of an episode, being able to buy it, w/o commericals the day after is brilliant. I just hope the catalog expenses quickly over the next few weeks and months!

And yes... you will be able to house and play ripped DVD content.

Process is this:

What CPU do you have, and how long does it take for the ripping and encoding all together?
If they add more shows I might buy some. I'll probably buy the first episode of Lost just to check out the quality and the show (I've never seen it before). I won't be buying whole seasons this way, but for an episode or two that you miss or that comes recommended by a friend, it seems like a really good idea. Apple would definitely get my money if they added movies at full-quality for $4 or $5 for permanent ownership, and $2 or so for a time-limited viewing (like a rental). I'd even buy a new iMac G5 to put in my room to watch movies on.
I don't see any reason whatsoever to use it. If they at least had used a higher resolution, I might have been able to live with the DRM, but the way it's now?

I can't preview the TV shows. (I double-click, and nothing happens.) Can anybody help? I'd like to see how Lost looks on my iMac (see sig).
EDIT: FYI, music videos work (they play in the upper left of the store window), but not TV episodes.
