Yea that is a good point. Certainly a different target audience with flat studio monitors. And I should clarify, I use them for some audio/video editing and mixing...hence the "flat" selection. But unfortunately the same machine sometimes gets relegated to music "listening" duties...and your right, for that, not the best setup.

I mean I rarely use my excessive KRK set-up for anything beyond listening. I have a couple of rare productions and when you find a good set, it's hard to let go of them, as unlike new products - you can't just go and buy a new one, especially something like my V88s.

I tried to get away with not using external speakers on the 27" iMac. 15 seconds through the first song (in iTunes), I plugged then in.

DoF, I was considering the 550s too but my wife said hell no! I showed her how big the sub was and she flipped. I have 2 SVS subs powering my HT and those are GIANT, she said no more subs!
HA! *whip cracks*. im still living at home so my gf doesnt really have any say in what i do or do not buy  (well she does, i just like to act like she doesnt :()

Since your picky (me too) I am curious what your using?

I also wonder...seems people really like the Logitech and even heard Swan mentioned a few times. I don't have any of the above, but are they that good? I am currently using a Yamaha 2.1 setup...pair of HS50 with HS10W run through an Apogee Duet.

I know speakers are really really personal preference, and I sometimes wonder if some of the other things people are using might suit my taste better.

im currently using my logitech x530s. they are pretty decent speakers but as i have gotten more and more picky (and started using uncompressed audio) i have found that they do lack the quality of the higher end stuff. so i have been researching a bit and i think that the logitech x5500s will be perfect for my needs, they are right at the top of my budget too. :(

I think the new iMac speakers sounds really well, but, like what the one guy in this thread said, there isn't really any solid bass. So I decided to buy some new Swans M10 speakers. I am now just waiting for them.

Anyone know if those Z5 and Z10 series USB speakers from Logitech will work ok on a iMac/MBP? Or do they depend on some special drivers???
