I've been looking at a few Netbooks as of later for myself and some friends.

Some Netbook negatives:
- Small screen.
- Slower than expected.
- Tiny keyboards.
- Not as light as they look.
- Limited storage (Most of them).
- Many are bulky (thick).

When I start comparing features, speed, weight, etc., the MBA with SSD is starting to look like a much better option. Sure the MBA is more expensive, no argument there. Having a full sized keyboard, 13 inch display, and a full processor, makes a huge difference.

Weird. Never thought that I would say the MBA is a better option than a netbook. Funny.

One thing that I do find interesting, is how quick the netbook market is expanding. Seems to be a large demand out there.

Personally, I would love to see an Apple netbook (Macbook Mini, anyone?). However, I do not see that happening any time soon, and if it does, it'll be $800+ - that's more than I paid for my open-box Macbook (I got a deal :)).

So in the meantime, I just recently (2 weeks ago) bought an HP Mini - and I love it. Sure, I'd rather have OS X, but XP is a functional OS, as long as you treat it right. Sure, its nowhere near as fast as the Macbook, but its not half bad - again, if you treat it right. The only big negative I've run into is the fact that I have to let YouTube videos load completely if I want them to play smoothly - and my Macbook plays the same videos fine, so its not my connection.

IMHO, netbooks have their place - basic machines for Internet and Office, nothing more (though mine plays the original Call of Duty just fine :)). And especially since my HP Mini is now just $349, I have no reason at all to complain. I take mine EVERYWHERE because I'm not worried if something happens to it. To me, its definitely useful and worth every penny.
