I'd still like a front facing FP sensor, but only under the screen. Face ID kind of sucks, I mean it's not terrible but it's certainly nowhere near as fast or accurate as a FP sensor IMO, plus Apple idiotically makes you swipe even after Face ID recognizes you. My main gripe with the rear placed sensors is if I can't reach the back of the phone, such as if it's lying on a table or in my car holder. Ideally the FP sensor and face ID would work in tandem.

Miss the X? I'm very highly considering moving from my X to a 8 plus (former phone was a 7 plus). I'm just getting really annoyed with the smaller fonts and because of the dev guidelines it seems like everything is really compacted and hard to read. I also miss the FP sensor. Otherwise I'm resigned to wait another 5 months for the x-plus.

Those are the exact reasons I sold my X. For me FaceID was a hit and miss and lagged. Hated having to swipe after it did recognize my face.

The X was the smallest 5.8 phone I think have used. I had to enlarge the fonts to read things.

That's what secure location option is for :)

But dual is optimal

Yeah secure location is nice, but I have an iPhone. I'd also love to have the android feature of keeping the phone unlocked with a Bluetooth device, which would work with my car or my gym headphones for example. But, well Apple...

But even with Android devices, I leave my phone on my desk all the time and still need it to be locked, even if it's in a secure location.

I do! I have the S6 edge+ and the backside reader on the Note 8, S9 etc is a step backwards from what I have. I'm trying to wait for manufactures to move past this before buying a new phone. Face scanning is cool but is less convenient sometimes. Having face scanning and an in-display fingerprint reader would be so cool! Then I can reach over on a flat table and unlock the phone. Not asking too much is it?

Honestly, don’t really miss anything other than the smaller footprint in my pocket. FaceID was fine, worked well enough but the need to be within a specific viewing angle to unlock makes it just annoying enough. And no longer needs to swipe to unlock is great—didn’t realize how much that irritated me until I no longer had to do it.

Don’t get me wrong, I liked the overall feel and edge to edge OLED, but bezels just don’t bother me that much (my other phone is the regular Pixel 2 ;)) and I’m not a display snob either. The LCD on iPhones is perfectly good for my needs. I also type much better on the wider display.

I just have my fingers crossed that FaceID gen 2 is more efficient and that there is a Plus model next year to compensate for the narrowness of these new display ratios, else I’m not sure what I going to do.

I'm only interested in an in-display fingerprint reader if it works without having to wake up the display.

On my Pixel 2 XL finger print unlocks the phone withut me having to wake it up or swipe away the lock screen.

I agree with you. On the Note 8 and S9 phones.....you can long press on the front home button to wake the phones. I hope Samsung does something like that for the Note 9 if it has the under display FPS.

Yeah, that would make alot of sense.

Rear FP sensors suck IMO. I've come from the 6+ through the 6S+, the Xperia XZ and now the Note 8. A front scanner simply cannot be beaten but the side mounted SONY variant was awesome. With my Note 8 I use facial recognition to unlock all day but then late at night that doesn't work so I fall back to using the sucky FP sensor on the rear. It's in an unnatural position and a thick leather case makes it even harder to use. Sometimes I even have to resort to using a 4 digit PIN if using my phone at night and I don't want to pick it up. It all seems like a step backwards when a front facing sensor was perfect.
